Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Sorry

In the office building of Pearwill Group, employees busied themselves with their work.

As the noon break approached, suddenly, a message in an internal group chat caused quite a stir.

[The big boss’s wife is right here in our company]

As soon as this message was sent, the chat group exploded.

The employees who usually lurked in the group now popped up, commenting and discussing.

[Who is it?]

[Spill it already?]

[The boss’s wife is at the company, really? Are you kidding?]

[Wait, our boss got married?]

The person who sent the message seemed to intentionally whet everyone’s appetite, following up with another message.

[Why would I lie to you? The boss’s wife is working right here in our office, you all guess who it is.]

This mysterious statement made everyone even more curious, guessing which one among them was the boss’s wife.

At that moment, in the testing department, a female colleague named Juliet Martin saw the message in the group chat and turned her head to look at Elizabeth Shaw, who was busy working.

Juliet Martin scoffed internally, thinking it was absurd for Elizabeth Shaw, a fine lady of high society, to work in a testing unit as a tester.

She didn’t bother to hide her disdain.

A few people in the testing department already knew that Elizabeth Shaw was the boss’s wife.

Just then, the deputy manager walked over, frowning and chiding sternly, "Elizabeth Shaw, what’s the matter with you? Aren’t you taking your job seriously? There’s a problem with this test; you need to do it again."

Elizabeth Shaw calmly explained, "I have already retested it once."

The deputy manager, impatient, said, "Retest it, and write me a report afterward."

With that, he turned and walked back to his office, leaving Elizabeth Shaw standing there alone.

Juliet Martin watched the scene gleefully, pitying the deputy manager internally for daring to scold the boss’s wife.

Ignorance indeed knows no fear.

Elizabeth Shaw didn’t say much. She decided to go have lunch first, to recharge before restarting the testing process.

Juliet Martin approached her, pretending to be concerned, "Elizabeth, need help with the testing? I’ve already had my lunch and am free now."

Elizabeth Shaw smiled and politely declined, "No need, I’ll do it this afternoon, thank you."

Juliet Martin sheepishly retreated to her own seat.

Well, offered help not taken, never mind.

In the cafeteria on the second floor, Sophie Woods had already gotten meals for herself and Elizabeth Shaw.

She sat by a window waiting for Elizabeth Shaw.

As Elizabeth Shaw entered the cafeteria and spotted her friend, she walked over, saw the prepared meals, and smiled, "Thank you."

Sophie Woods lowered her voice, whispering, "Did you see the gossip in the group chat? Everyone knows the boss’s wife works here."

She looked at Elizabeth Shaw meaningfully, her eyes filled with mischief.

As Elizabeth Shaw was eating, she looked up curiously upon hearing this, "Max’s wife? Who is it?"

Sophie Woods rolled her eyes, whispering, "Not Max’s wife, the big boss."

Remembering James Thompson’s aloof gaze, Elizabeth Shaw chuckled, "Who’s the boss’s wife then?"

Sophie Woods blinked and whispered very softly, "Far in the sky, close in front of your eyes."

Elizabeth Shaw choked on her words and quickly drank some water to recover.

She hurriedly clarified, "Don’t spread rumors. I’m really not."

Sophie Woods watched her flustered reaction and couldn’t help but laugh, "Relax, I’m not going to tell anyone. Why are you panicking?"

Elizabeth Shaw sighed helplessly, "Why don’t you believe me? Let’s just hurry up and eat. I have to go back to retest and write the report later."

Sophie Woods frowned, "Writing the report again?"

Elizabeth Shaw shrugged, indicating there was nothing she could do. That deputy manager seemed to have it in for her.

Meanwhile, at a hotel.

James Thompson personally brought lunch over at noon and also brought a wheelchair.

Julia Land looked at the lavish dishes on the table and the wheelchair, curling her lips into a smile and thanked him, "Thank you."

Tyler Hughes, being good for once, turned around and left the room, his heart crying silently.

James Thompson carried Julia Land to the dining table chair and wiped her hands with a wet tissue.

He sat across from her, his eyes fixed on her.

Julia picked up the chopsticks and chewed slowly.

An inexplicable tension spread between them.

Julia took a few bites.

James softly asked, "Little Julia, when will you be heading back to Capital City?"

Julia paused with her chopsticks in hand and then replied with a faint smile, "I’m signing with Pearwill Group tomorrow, and I’ll fly back to Capital City the day after."

At her words, the atmosphere in the room suddenly became quiet.

Neither of them spoke again, each lost in their own silence.

James lowered his head and took a sip of tea.

The man earnestly admonished, "Take good care of yourself in Capital City."

Julia looked up at James and smiled, "I will, and you take care of yourself too."

After finishing the meal, James moved Julia onto the wheelchair. "Let me take you outside for a walk, to enjoy some sunshine."

In fact, he wanted to spend every possible moment with her.

Julia nodded and hummed in agreement.

James pushed the wheelchair out of the room and into the hotel garden.

The garden was in full bloom, the air lightly fragrant with flowers, the sunlight pouring over them both.

They strolled around the garden, enjoying a moment of tranquility.

The man slowly pushed the wheelchair, the woman on it radiant and striking.

Time passed quickly, and soon it was afternoon.

At half-past two, Julia had a video conference.

James brought Julia back to her room.

Julia sighed, raising her head and reaching out her hand.

James braced his hands on the wheelchair handles and bent his back.

Her hands wrapped around his neck.

He gently brushed against her red lips.

"I’m sorry I didn’t protect Dale," he said, holding her face close, forehead to forehead.

"I’ve never been able to protect you both properly."

Julia blinked her sour eyes.

James stood up, and as he turned to leave, the moment he walked out the door, he felt a sudden urge to keep Julia by his side.

He stood by the door, his hand on the doorknob, the veins popping from the force of his grip.

Torn and struggling, he eventually released his grip and gently pushed the door open to walk out.

James walked down the hotel corridor, a bitterness in his heart.

He chose to respect her decisions and her life.

Tyler Hughes opened the door of his room holding a computer, curiously watching James’s retreating figure.

He walked to the next door, Julia’s room, and knocked gently.

Julia, sitting in the wheelchair, opened the door, "Come in."

Tyler entered, noticing Julia’s eyes slightly red.

The boss seemed to have cried.

He placed the computer on the table and connected the devices. "Boss, it’s time for the meeting."

Julia nodded, her voice raspy, "Thank you, Assistant Hughes."

Meanwhile, downstairs at the hotel.

James bent to get into the car, glancing once more at the hotel.

The driver started the vehicle and slowly drove away from the hotel.

James leaned back in the seat and closed his eyes.

The car moved farther away, heading towards another part of the city.
