Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Big Jerk

After hearing Isaac’s words, Julia Land fell silent for a while and then said calmly, "I understand, I will arrange to go to Inkwell City next Wednesday."

"Director Land, we’ll see each other then," Isaac ended the call.

After hanging up the phone, Julia Land stared at her mobile phone, lost in thought for a moment.

Pearwill Group, huh?

Julia Land rubbed her temples.

She dialed Assistant Scott’s number, "Assistant Scott, I need to go to Inkwell City next Wednesday to attend the ACC Technology Summit. Help me arrange the itinerary."

Assistant Scott immediately replied, "Okay, Chairman, I will arrange it right away. Should both Tyler Hughes and I go with you to Inkwell City?"

Julia Land pondered for a moment, "You stay in the country and keep an eye on those people from the Moore Family. Pay extra attention to Uncle Moore, and Assistant Hughes will accompany me to Inkwell City."

She didn’t trust those people from the Moore Family to act honestly.

"Okay, I’ll get to it."

The two ended the call.

Julia Land had arranged to have dinner with Sophia Hart at her place tonight. She was now busy handling urgent matters and would return home by five o’clock.

Sophia Hart arrived at Julia Land’s home precisely at six o’clock.

She brought a few bottles of red wine, bursting with excitement, "Sister Julia, I’m here."

Julia Land took the red wine with a smile, welcoming her into the home. Looking past Sophia, she didn’t see Andrew Benson and felt a bit puzzled.

"Where’s Andrew Benson? I thought he would come with you," Julia Land closed the door, asking casually.

Sophia changed her shoes, turned to look at Julia Land, "He went back. His mother fell down the stairs."

"How is she?" Julia Land walked to the living room, placed the bottles down, and asked with concern.

Sophia shrugged, indicating helplessness, "I don’t know. I sent him a message yesterday, but he hasn’t replied."

The message had vanished like a stone in the sea.

"Don’t worry, perhaps he’s busy dealing with family matters."

"Who’s worried? I am not worried about him," Sophia bristled.

"Mmm, you’re not worried about him."

Sophia took a self-guided tour of Julia Land’s new house before heading to the kitchen.

Julia Land planned to simply stir-fry three dishes and make one soup for dinner.

Watching Julia Land skillfully stir-fry and season, Sophia exclaimed, "Why don’t I have that talent?"

"Brother Thompson doesn’t have that talent either," Julia Land blurted out unintentionally.

The kitchen fell silent for a moment.

Sophia, head bowed, staring at her slippers, couldn’t suppress her curiosity, "Sister Julia, why can’t you and Brother Thompson just live well together?"

They had finally married, only to divorce.

They clearly loved each other so much.

Julia Land paused her action of sprinkling salt into the dish, then said nonchalantly, "I can’t get over it emotionally."

Dale was gone, both of them deserved punishment.

Deep down, she probably resented James Thompson for not protecting their daughter well.

The topic was too heavy.

Sophia changed the subject, "Sister Julia, are things very busy at the company?"

"It’s manageable. Just that since I’ve just taken over, there are many things that need to be sorted out," Julia Land responded while adeptly stirring the dish.

Sophia nodded, seeming hesitant, "You’re amazing. Should I be looking for something to do as well?"

Her parents lived in Capital City, and Sophia was afraid to start a store lest they come and make a scene if they found out.

"What do you want to do?" Julia Land asked.

Sophia thought seriously, "How about I open a pet store?"

Then she could keep snakes in the store, her parents wouldn’t dare to make a fuss.

"If you want to open it, just open it. I support you," Julia Land pointed at the cooked dish, "There, take that dish out."

"Okay."

While eating, the two of them opened a bottle of red wine, taking only a few sips.

"To our hardworking lives," Julia Land raised her glass, smiling at Sophia.

"To us," Sophia smiled back, lifting her glass and lightly clinking it with Julia Land’s.

"By the way, I’m heading to Inkwell City next Wednesday to attend the technology summit," Julia Land said as she ate.

"Inkwell City?"

"Mmm."

Sophia didn’t mention James Thompson.

It wasn’t until dinner was over and Sophia left Julia Land’s home, returning to her own place, that she took out her phone and called James Thompson.

"Brother Thompson, Sister Julia is going to Inkwell City next Wednesday. Did you know about this?"

James Thompson leaned back in his chair, looking out of the window, and briefly replied with a single acknowledgment, "Mhm."

"Oh, so you knew," Sophia ended the call in silence.

As expected, Brother Thompson knew.

Just after Sophia hung up, an incoming call arrived; it was Andrew Benson’s mobile number flashing on the screen.

She pursed her lips but still answered the call.

Before Sophia could say anything, she heard a woman’s and a man’s voices from the other end of Andrew Benson’s call.

Sophia recognized the man’s voice as Andrew Benson’s naturally.

But she couldn’t quite place the woman’s voice until Andrew Benson called her by her surname.

"Benjamin, the little cat seems to be ill; take it to the doctor, otherwise Aunt Fang won’t let you off when she comes back."

"Mmm, I’ll take it to see the vet shortly, Miss Elise, what’s in this bag?"

"I’m bringing something to the hospital for Aunt Fang; I will go there later."

Sophia stood there dazedly listening for a few moments before hanging up, a surge of inexplicable emotions welling up inside her.

She remained stationary, clutching her phone, as the conversation from the call echoed in her mind.

Miss Elise? Elise Morgan, the senior?

That caught her off guard.

So Elise Morgan was still by his side, and by the tone of their conversation, they seemed quite familiar.

The woman who had once been intimate with Andrew Benson.

Sophia wore a smile more painful than crying.

Andrew Benson, that bastard!
