Chapter 258 New Number
Chapter 258: Chapter 258 New Number
"Our boss is great, you just have to earnestly do your work and keep your mouth tight," Michael Scott said as he drove, advising the young man in the passenger seat.
Tyler Hughes nodded and smiled with an innocuous grin, "Yeah, senior, don’t worry, my lips are sealed."
"...."
Michael became even more worried.
Tyler was Michael’s junior and they shared the same mentor, who had strongly recommended Tyler to him.
Julia Land was sitting in the living room waiting for Assistant Scott to come over; today, she was moving to a newly purchased house.
Sophia Hart babbled on, "Julia, you should live with me, it would be so nice for the two of us to have company."
Julia patted Sophia’s hair, "I won’t impose on you guys."
Her staying there would probably make it inconvenient for Andrew Benson and Sophia to talk.
Not long after, Michael came into the living room with Tyler.
"This is our boss, Miss Land," Assistant Scott introduced, "Boss, this is my junior, Tyler Hughes, he will be your personal assistant in the future."
Julia and Sophia looked at each other, then turned their gaze to the puppy, who was also surprised.
"..."
The same thought arose in both of their minds—what a small world indeed.
The Tyler Hughes before them was the very same guy who had introduced himself and flirted with Julia on the plane.
Tyler flashed a brilliant smile and immediately bowed respectfully, "Hello, boss, you can call me Tyler, and I’ll diligently complete any tasks you assign me."
Julia sized up Tyler.
Noticing Julia evaluating him, Tyler stood up straight as if he was at a military drill.
Julia decided to speak privately to Assistant Scott later that Tyler was unsuitable to be her personal assistant.
Tyler seemed to guess Julia’s intention to not hire him, and he said, "Boss, please give me a chance, I am sure my personal abilities are equivalent to ten other people."
Assistant Scott was unaware of the incident on the plane; he thought Julia didn’t want a male personal assistant.
Thinking about the mentor’s strong recommendation, Assistant Scott still spoke up for him, "Boss, a one-month trial period, and if he’s unsuitable, I’ll find someone else."
Julia was actually surprised by Tyler’s ability to read the situation.
She had only given him a look and managed to stay expressionless, yet he sensed her intentions.
Julia nodded, "A one-month trial period it is. I hope you can prove yourself."
Tyler immediately breathed a sigh of relief and smiled brightly, "Thank you, boss, I will definitely work hard!"
Julia stood up and said to Michael, "Alright, let’s get ready to leave and move those boxes to the new house."
The new house was just a small villa.
Julia herself had organized her daughter’s and Little Violet’s things, and when she was almost done, her stomach growled.
She went downstairs, headed to the kitchen, and heard sounds coming from inside.
Upon entering, she saw a young man wearing a sleeveless tank top skillfully tossing food with a spatula.
Tyler, hearing footsteps, turned his head and, seeing Julia, smiled, "Boss, one last dish to go."
Julia looked at Tyler for a moment, a bit bewildered; she hadn’t really anticipated having her personal assistant cook for her.
Tyler swiftly turned off the heat, took a plate and served the food.
As he carried the food out of the kitchen, passing by Julia,
she realized how tall the young man was.
"Boss, please try it and see if it’s to your liking. If not, I’ll make improvements," Tyler said with a smile, placing the dish on the table, then returning to the kitchen to bring out a pot of rice and bowls and chopsticks.
Julia remained calm; an assistant who could cook was a welcome idea to her.
While she was eating, Tyler eagerly awaited her evaluation.
"Good, tastes nice," Julia said generously.
Tyler smiled, a tint of red in his ears, "Thank you for liking it, boss. If there’s anything that needs improvement in the future, please let me know anytime."
After he finished saying this, his own stomach embarrassingly growled out loud.
Julia looked up to see his bashfully red face and paused, "There’s plenty of food, sit down and eat with me."
This young man sure blushed easily.
Tyler didn’t decline, going to the kitchen to get his own bowl and chopsticks.
After they finished eating, Tyler promptly cleared and washed the dishes.
Julia sat in the living room, talking with Michael on the phone.
Assistant Scott reported from the other end of the line, "Uncle Moore’s current wife has invited you to her birthday party tomorrow night."
Julia Land gave a faint response, "Mm."
The moment of truth had arrived, and she knew this was no ordinary invitation.
"Tell her, I’ll be there on time."
After hanging up the phone, Tyler Hughes, who had just finished washing the dishes, was also ready to bid her farewell and leave.
She stopped him, "Assistant Hughes, I have a birthday party to attend tomorrow evening. Help me prepare a gift."
Tyler immediately realized Julia was testing him. He didn’t know who the gift was for or how valuable it should be.
"Boss, got it."
After Tyler left, he first called Assistant Scott to inquire who was hosting the birthday party the next day, then he did his own online research on Julia Land’s relationship with the Moore Group and Uncle Moore.
Piecing together bits and pieces, he figured out something important—the boss was contesting for control of the Moore Group.
The boss was truly formidable.
His eyes curved with a smile, and an idea formed in his mind.
So, the gift didn’t need to be too elaborate.
Naturally, the cheaper, the better.
Tyler drove to a general store, where he bought a bottle of no-name perfume for thirty yuan and some wrapping paper.
Tyler was skilled with his hands and managed to wrap the thirty yuan perfume like it was a luxury item.
The gift looked exquisite and regal from the outside, belying its original thirty yuan price tag.
**
The next day, Tyler arrived at Julia’s place on time. As he approached the door, he subconsciously adjusted his clothes before ringing the bell.
Julia opened the door.
The woman was dressed in a black dress, and despite wearing no makeup, she possessed a certain cold allure.
Tyler handed the neatly wrapped gift and the expense claim form to Julia, "Boss, this is the gift I’ve prepared."
Julia took the gift, scrutinizing it. The packaging was beautiful, and she then reviewed the expense claim form.
Thirty yuan.
Julia paused, what a clever child, she nodded slightly with approval, "Not bad, very thoughtful. The gift is good."
Seeing Julia’s satisfaction, Tyler felt a leap of joy, and his face flushed with color.
Such a clean-cut young man suddenly blushing; Julia, usually unsmiling, couldn’t help but find it amusing.
*
Julia hadn’t yet arrived at the birthday party, but the women there were already gossiping about her.
From being the Bell Family’s returned heiress to her marriage to James Thompson, followed by their grand wedding, which didn’t last long before divorce.
"Her wedding with James Thompson was such a spectacle, even the media reported it extensively," a woman in a red evening gown said excitedly.
"Why did they divorce?" another woman inquired curiously.
"I heard it was because during the wedding, Eleanor called James Thompson ’Dad’ in public, which made the bride angry."
"That’s not right; it’s something else. I think it’s because that kid, Dale Land, died."
"I heard it was Julia Land who angered Mr. Thompson, and that’s why they divorced."
The rumors were varied and conflicting.
The women chatted and drank downstairs.
Meanwhile, Uncle Moore and the others sat in an upstairs study, quietly waiting for Julia’s arrival.
"Are our people ready?" Uncle Moore made a call to confirm once more.
The person in charge on the other end replied, "All ready."
Logan Moore’s legs were crossed, his brow furrowed, "If she dares attend the party, has she made some foolproof preparations?"
After hanging up, Uncle Moore pondered for a moment and then scoffed coldly, "No matter what she’s prepared, tonight she is destined to return her shares!"
*
Julia’s car steadily made for Uncle Moore’s luxurious villa district.
Sitting in the passenger’s seat, Tyler Hughes, trying to look imposing, wore sunglasses in the deep of night.
Suddenly, Julia’s phone rang once before it cut off.
She glanced at the incoming number—an Inkwell City number.
A message boldly appeared.
[Little Violet, this is my new number.]
James Thompson sent the message and handed his phone to Jasper Winters. He looked up at the gradually brightening sky and slowly entered the temple.
