Chapter 243: Chapter 243: Pressuring Oneself

The afternoon sun filtered through the office windows.

Julia Land was buried in paperwork when she heard Assistant Scott say Madame Bell had come to see her.

She was slightly taken aback and then nodded, "Please let Madame Bell in."

A few minutes later, the office door was gently pushed open, Madame Bell entered with a thermos in hand, smiling.

"Why have you come yourself?" Julia Land put aside her documents and stood up to greet her.

Madame Bell walked over to Julia Land with a smile and handed her the thermos, "Julia, I had the chef make Astragalus and Goji berry soup with red dates, it’s especially good for someone busy like you to nourish qi and blood."

Julia Land took the thermos, a bit surprised, but still expressed her gratitude, "Thank you for bringing this over."

She spoke politely, like she would to a stranger.

Madame Bell had braced herself for this visit and looked at her gently, "It’s no trouble, remember to drink it while it’s hot. I won’t distract you from work anymore, but remember to call your dad if there’s anything."

Julia Land gave a nod and a smile.

Madame Bell swiftly left the office.

Julia Land looked at the thermos in her hands, her feelings complex for a moment, but she was too busy to dwell on it much longer.

Perhaps Madame Bell was trying to mend their mother-daughter relationship.

She placed the thermos on the table and resumed her work.

At that moment, Assistant Scott knocked on the office door and strode in.

"Director Land, several shareholders called to question why we haven’t done any public relations regarding the recent shipwreck and smuggling incident. Also, Moore Group’s stock hit the limit down at market close today."

This was expected.

Julia Land lifted her head and said to Assistant Scott with composure, "Send someone to investigate Uncle Moore and those other shareholders, the more detailed, the better."

Assistant Scott nodded but still seemed worried, "I will arrange for an investigation immediately, but if we continue not to handle the Silicon Express shipwreck and smuggling matter, I’m afraid it will be tough to control what comes next."

Julia Land raised an eyebrow, "Who said we aren’t handling it? We are simply not doing the PR externally. Don’t worry. In a few days, I probably will no longer be the Director, which is good, so I can spend some time with my daughter and Mr. Thompson."

Assistant Scott’s scalp tingled at her words. Although Julia Land’s tone was laced with a semblance of ease, this was anything but a light matter.

The future of the Moore Group affected the livelihood of countless staff and the fate of the entire company.

A single misstep would mean defeat.

"Also, I’m busy with something tomorrow and won’t be coming to the office. If shareholders call, just honestly tell them I’ve taken a leave."

Taking leave at such a time would probably anger the shareholders, while certain shareholders might be pleased.

Pleased with her inaction.

After giving her instructions, Julia Land watched Assistant Scott hurry out to look into Uncle Moore and those shareholders.

*

Julia Land left work directly at half-past five.

Many reporters eager for an interview had already gathered outside the Moore Group building.

Seeing her emerge, the reporters surged forward, bombarding her with questions.

"Director Land is coming out!"

"Director Land, is it true that Moore Group acquired Silicon Express for smuggling purposes?"

"Director Land, how many sailors died in the shipwreck?"

Bodyguards protecting Julia Land quickly blocked the reporters, forming a protective barrier, "Sorry, please make way."

Julia Land’s expression remained calm as she swiftly walked to her car under the protection of her bodyguards.

She did not respond to the reporters’ questions and simply got straight into her car.

As soon as the car door closed, the chaotic noise and urgent questions from outside were shut out.

Sitting in the car, Julia Land took a deep breath to allow herself a moment of relaxation.

The car started and left the Moore Group headquarters behind.

Through the car window, Julia Land saw the figures of reporters who still refused to disperse.

Julia Land knew that this incident had already garnered widespread media attention, which, if not handled properly, could severely damage Moore Group’s reputation.

The car smoothly drove on the road.

At that moment, Julia Land’s phone rang again; it was Matthew Moore calling.

She answered the phone to hear Matthew Moore directly inquire about the Silicon Express matter.

"Julia, two shareholders have called me. You should handle this sooner," Matthew Moore’s voice was steady.

Julia Land replied calmly, "Uncle Moore, I’m aware."

Matthew Moore, "The shareholders are abuzz, you need to come up with a solution fast, or the company might face an even bigger crisis."

Julia Land spoke softly, "Don’t worry, Uncle Moore."

Right now, Matthew Moore wasn’t too keen on managing Moore Group affairs. His son had passed away; he and his wife were now content living a simple life, just growing their fruits and vegetables.

He had said all that needed to be said.

**

The car drove back home.

As Julia Land got out, she saw her son Dale Land excitedly running up to her, "Mommy, you’re home!"

Julia Land smiled and lifted her son, kissing his forehead gently, "Did Dale have fun at kindergarten today?"

Dale Land nodded with a beaming smile, "I made a drawing today, and the teacher said it was really nice!"

Julia Land gently stroked her son’s head, "That’s wonderful, Dale is the best."

She raised her eyes to look at James Thompson standing at the doorway.

Their gazes met.

James Thompson came over to take their son and wrapped an arm around Julia Land’s shoulders, "Shall we talk tonight?"

Julia Land nodded; she too wanted to discuss with James Thompson about what she intended to do next.

In the evening, after their son had fallen asleep, the couple went to the study to talk.

"Even though I’m the director of Moore Group, I only hold twenty percent of the shares, which makes it hard to act without hindrance," Julia Land said calmly, a tinge of resolute determination in her tone, "I want to control all the shares currently in the hands of the Moore family."

The soft light in the study could not obscure the firmness in Julia Land’s eyes.

James Thompson raised an eyebrow in slight surprise, and then curved his lips into a smile, "I understand."

He walked over to the desk, leaned his hands on it, and looked at her deeply, "How do you plan to acquire these shares? Directly, or through other means?"

Julia Land smirked, a meaningful smile in her eyes, "I will first talk to each shareholder to see their intentions. If possible, I will try to buy their shares through legal means. Of course, I don’t discount the use of certain... strategies."

Her voice was light when she spoke the word "strategies."

James Thompson raised his hand to touch Julia Land’s head, using a fatherly tone, he remarked, "Little Julia, you’ve grown up, and you’re remarkable."

Julia Land puffed out her chest proudly and glared at James Thompson, "Look, I’ve grown up."

The serious topic at hand suddenly deflected.

James Thompson lifted his brow, his gaze resting on the proud feature she emphasized, pausing.

His slender index finger pressed against his own graceful thin lips.

Lip-read: Tonight, I’ll have a taste of that feature.

They flirted briefly, then continued to discuss the matter of Silicon Express.

Julia Land wanted to hear James Thompson’s approach to the situation.

At nine o’clock that evening, Julia Land received a caring message from Madame Bell.

"Julia, if you need help from the Gunn Family, just tell me."
