Chapter 231: Chapter 231 Cooperation

Madame Bell dialed Julia Land’s number, "Julia, come home for dinner tonight, and we can also discuss tomorrow’s banquet."

Julia looked at James Thompson, who was sitting on the sofa waiting for her to get off work, and gave Mr. Thompson an apologetic glance, "Alright, I’ll come over around six."

After hanging up the phone, Julia deliberately blinked at the man.

James raised an eyebrow slightly, "Miss Land, don’t speak, I don’t want to listen."

They had originally planned to have a candlelit dinner for two tonight.

Julia stood up, walked over to James, rested her hands on the arms of the sofa, and leaned in close to him.

A forceful gesture of a woman teasing a man.

She smiled with an apology, "Madame Bell said tonight we need to discuss the banquet for tomorrow, I’m sorry, Mr. Thompson."

A trace of helplessness flickered through James’s deep eyes, and he still kept his face straight, "It took so much to finally get a candlelit dinner, is it easy for me?"

Julia nodded, it wasn’t easy.

She looked at him earnestly with a sincere tone, "Really not easy, worst-case scenario, I’ll go along with you tonight, during the ’brewing and condiment’ part."

James sneered, "... I didn’t expect you to be such a good negotiator."

He wedged one knee in between

Her two slender legs.

Julia naturally sat down, her usually cold yet gorgeous face suddenly softened as she looked at James.

James curved his lips, showing a gentle smile.

"You said it yourself, you’ll go along with me tonight."

Julia covered her mouth with a girlish laugh, dropped her hand, and returned to her strong, cool expression, "I’ll give you some interest first."

She gestured to her red lips with her index finger.

After collecting his interest, James could only reluctantly head home first.

Julia reapplied her lipstick for herself and, when the time came, also set off to the Bell Family.

Tonight’s dinner at the Bell Family included Mr. and Mrs. Bell, Julia Land, and Maxwell Bell.

After dinner, Connor Bell began discussing the next day’s banquet.

"Julia, the banquet tomorrow will officially announce you as my daughter. Don’t be too nervous, we’ll all be there to support you," Connor said kindly, "Maxwell will be your dance partner for the opening dance tomorrow, is that alright?"

Julia nodded, "That’s fine."

Madame Bell was quiet tonight. She had originally intended to postpone tomorrow’s banquet for a while, but Connor didn’t agree.

As night fell, Julia left the Bell residence.

After Julia left, Maxwell got the chance to ask about another matter, "Should we invite Little Chloe tomorrow?"

Connor pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head, "No need to invite her. If she comes, she’ll feel uncomfortable herself."

Maxwell nodded, "Uncle, Aunt, I’ll head home to rest."

"Mm, go ahead," Connor gestured dismissively.

After everyone had left,

Madame Bell personally went to the dining room to collect the cup and straw that Julia had touched.

Her feelings were somewhat complex.

"Madame, don’t overthink it. We’ll know the result tomorrow afternoon."

Connor had sent people to look for a woman named Savannah Summers, but so far, there had been no news.

When Julia returned home, she saw the little one fully engrossed in watching a cartoon.

Dale Land was so absorbed that he didn’t even notice mom had come home.

"Dale, where’s dad?" Julia asked gently.

"Mommy, you’re back!" Dale turned his head in surprise, his chubby hand pointing toward the dining area, "Daddy’s over there on the phone."

Julia walked toward the dining area and just heard James mocking someone over the phone, "Andrew Benson, if you use these lowly tactics of threats and temptation, you’ll never get someone who truly loves you."

James Thompson didn’t want to meddle in Andrew Benson and Sophia Hart’s affairs. Their emotional entanglement shouldn’t be interfered with by him.

But when Sophia Hart called asking for his help, he couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.

On the other end of the phone, Andrew Benson’s delicate face was now as cold as frost, "The means I used were not low-class. Lavinia’s parents are barely human; I was just showing her their true colors."

James’s gaze was icy, his tone even harsher, "Love needs to be earned with sincerity, not forced with tactics. You’re only driving her further away from you."

Andrew’s tone remained icy, he snorted, "Mr. Thompson, if Director Land one day finds some random man to be her boyfriend, I’d like to see if you can still keep your composure."

James curled his lips into a cold smile, this hypothesis was irritating, "The difference between you and me is that Director Land loves me deeply and wouldn’t stray, while you can’t even win her back."

Andrew was at a loss for words.

James saw Julia Land and decisively hung up the phone.

"What’s wrong with Sophia?" Julia Land furrowed her brows.

"She’s found herself a boyfriend, and Andrew is upset. You probably know how power-hungry and money-loving Sophia’s parents are," James mentioned Sophia’s absurd parents and was at a loss for words.

"The boyfriend you mentioned is Adam Steele, right? I’ve met him once, he seems upbeat. I’ll have a chat with Sophia the day after tomorrow," Julia was actually worried.

After leaving the restaurant, James turned off the TV, intending to coax the little one to sleep early.

Julia went upstairs to take a bath.

They both tacitly remembered the words said in the office today.

The night deepened, the air in the room charged with an ambiguous scent.

James glanced at Julia Land, who was about to flee, and pulled her back with his hand.

He used his teeth to tear open the wrapper, the action laden with pure desire.

"Little Julia, do you know what you’re called?" the man asked in a low, chilly voice.

"I don’t know," Julia regretted talking big earlier. She should just play along.

She had cooperated for quite a while.

"This is called ’defeated without a fight,’" James narrowed his eyes, educating her firmly.

Julia almost cried out, giving him a resentful look, her eyes glistening, "What do you know, this is called knowing one’s limits!"

"Mm, incorrect, it’s called ’an easy target.’"

"....."

...

Waking up the next day, Julia Land held her head, wanting to cry.

The battle of idioms from last night was still etched in her memory.

Emerging from the bathroom, James saw Julia holding her head and raised an eyebrow, "Little Julia, are you getting up?"

"No," she wanted to keep lying down.

"You don’t have to, you were quite tired last night, you need some good rest."

Just as James’s considerate words ended, a large pillow came flying at him.

Julia threw the pillow weakly, James laughed out loud.

He walked over and picked her up, "Let’s go take a bath, I need to tell you something you might not like."

"What is it?" Julia asked, her voice hoarse.

She lazily pulled back the slipping strap from her shoulder.

James looked down at Julia in his arms, his eyes darkening, "Grace Land was released from prison recently, she’s bought a flight to Capital City this morning."

Julia was now fully awake, frowning, "She’s coming to see me, isn’t she?"

She thought of tonight’s Bell Family banquet, then of Savannah Summers, and then of Grace Land.

"Do we intercept Grace Land?" James put Julia down, letting her brush her teeth and wash her face first.

Julia, squeezing her toothpaste, replied coldly, "Fine, since she’s here, no need to stop her. I want to see what the person behind it all is planning."

How interesting indeed.
