Chapter 229 Between Mother and Daughter
Chapter 229: Chapter 229 Between Mother and Daughter
In the evening, Madame Bell met with Julia Land at a Western-style restaurant.
The lighting of the restaurant was soft, and the environment elegant, adding a touch of warmth to the atmosphere.
Julia had come directly in her business suit from work, looking every inch the powerful executive.
Madame Bell was as elegantly poised as ever.
Just from the style of their dress, you could tell their personalities were quite different.
Madame Bell looked at Julia, her face wearing a gentle smile, and thought of the Miss Xia Chloe Sullivan had mentioned today, her heart felt a complex mix of emotions.
"Julia, is managing the Moore Family exhausting?" Madame Bell asked with a smile.
She sat opposite Julia because she really didn’t know where to start the conversation, so she picked a lighter topic.
Julia cooperated, responding with a smile, "There are some new projects at the company recently, so it’s a bit busy, but I’m managing."
Madame Bell nodded, her eyes showing a hint of concern, "It’s good to be busy with work, but you also need to take care of your health and not overwork yourself."
Julia nodded and hummed an acknowledgment, "Thank you."
Such an awkward chat atmosphere.
Neither could really let their guard down to chat.
They ordered their meals.
Madame Bell took out the gift she bought today to give to Julia, "I bought this necklace today, I think it suits you very well; I don’t know if you’ll like it."
Julia accepted the gift, expressing her thanks, "Thank you."
Madame Bell had yet to hear Julia call her "Mom," which was somewhat disappointing to her.
"Julia, we had some misunderstandings and conflicts before because of Chloe," Madame Bell paused for a moment before saying, "Tonight, here, I want to say I’m sorry to you. Chloe once saved me, and we acknowledged her as our goddaughter, so naturally, at that time, we were protective of her."
Hearing this, Julia cracked a smile.
"I understand how you feel," Julia replied calmly, "Let’s leave the past behind us, we are family now."
As long as you don’t favor Chloe in the future, Julia quietly added in her mind.
A flash of relief passed through Madame Bell’s eyes, "Your father wanted to come tonight as well but I stopped him; I wanted to have dinner with you alone."
Julia smiled.
Their ordered meals arrived, and they occasionally talked about the food.
The atmosphere was comparatively relaxed.
"Mom, thank you for the gift."
Julia finally spoke up, knowing she had to take the initiative to bridge the gap.
They couldn’t continue in this estrangement indefinitely without making everyone uncomfortable; she couldn’t just keep on resisting calling her family.
Madame Bell replied with happiness in her voice, "Mmm."
After the meal, Julia escorted Madame Bell to her car first, then got into her own car to go home.
A meal together with her mother was surprisingly more exhausting than a meeting.
*
Julia arrived home and had just sat down on the sofa when she saw the little guy, Dale Land, carrying a cup of water over to her with well-behaved elegance.
"Our Dale is really wonderful!" Julia praised with a smile.
The little guy shyly looked up at her, batting his eyes.
Julia’s eyes inquired of James Thompson, what’s the matter with little Dale?
James’s deep eyes twinkled with amusement as he gestured at his phone; Julia took out her phone and saw the message from James: "The little guy did a good deed today and received a ’Little Red Flower’."
Julia instantly understood the hint and, clued in to the subtle suggestion, picked up her daughter and asked with a smile, "Dale, how was school today?"
Little Dale clung to her mother’s neck and said happily, "Mommy, the teacher praised Dale today and even gave me a Little Red Flower!"
Julia exclaimed with a ’wow’, planting a kiss on her daughter’s cheek, "Dale is amazing! Why did the teacher praise you?"
Proudly lifting her little face, Dale excitedly shared, "There’s a girl in my class who cries a lot, and today I did a magic trick that made her laugh, and the teacher was very happy."
The world of children is so simple.
"Oh! So our Dale can perform magic tricks!" Julia Land expressed her surprise, "Mommy also wants to see Dale do magic tricks."
Dale Land nodded shyly upon hearing his mother’s praise, "Dad taught me the rubber band trick."
It was just a rubber band and some finger movements.
The little one rummaged through her pocket. She pulled out a rubber band and showed her performance to Julia Land.
"Wow, Dale is so amazing!" Julia Land clapped her hands in praise, her eyes brimming with smiles.
Dale Land smiled with her eyes curved, "Mommy, you’ve worked hard today, go rest."
"Okay, Mommy promises to be good!" Julia Land assured seriously.
James Thompson took Dale Land to bathe, and Julia Land sat on the sofa for a bit before heading upstairs to take her own shower.
It had been a long time since she had applied a face mask, and tonight she intentionally did so.
After James Thompson had put their daughter to sleep, he returned to the room and saw Julia Land watching him with her face covered in a black face mask.
"Is she asleep?" Julia Land asked.
"Mm, she might’ve been too tired today. She fell asleep not long after lying down," James Thompson whispered. He then asked lightly, "How did your conversation with Madame Bell go today?"
"It was okay, we’ll get along with time,"
Julia Land spread her hands in resignation.
It was inconvenient to talk too much while wearing a face mask.
James Thompson nodded, stood up to get a book, and then sat down next to Julia Land.
Julia Land was curious to see what book he was reading, so she reached out to take a look at the cover. Hmm, it turned out to be a book on "How Parents Should Communicate with Children."
"You’re reading this?" Julia Land was a bit surprised.
James Thompson raised an eyebrow, "Surprised?"
He pinched Julia Land’s soft hand, "I’m trying hard to fulfill the role of a father, and, by the way, I’ve already sent Savannah Summers on her way tonight."
**
The next morning dawned.
Madame Bell was selecting clothes, preparing to go out to the hospital.
Connor Bell walked into the clothing room, "Madam, do you want to prepare the dress for your daughter?"
Madame Bell smiled, "I’ll send a message to Julia later; she might prefer to choose her own dress."
Connor Bell nodded, "That’s true. Where are you off to so early?"
"I want to go out and buy some things," Madame Bell selected a skirt and turned to look at Connor Bell, "Husband, you’ve been working hard these last few days. It’s been many years since our family has held a banquet, and many things have needed your attention."
Connor Bell didn’t want Madame Bell to overexert herself; he had been handling almost the entire banquet preparations.
"It’s a pleasure for me; after all, you are my wife, and Julia is my daughter," Connor Bell said seriously.
In front of others, he was usually a stern and composed person, only showing a gentler demeanor in front of Madame Bell.
Madame Bell pressed her lips into a smile, changed her clothes, picked up her handbag, and got ready to leave, "Husband, I’m leaving."
"Mm," Connor Bell had other matters to attend to.
Madame Bell got into the car and sent a message to Julia Land: [Julia, Mommy wants to ask whether you want Mommy to prepare your dress for the banquet or if you would prefer to prepare it yourself.]
After sending the message, Madame Bell leaned back in her seat, fingers pinching her purse as she sighed softly.
Julia Land was busy in her office when her phone vibrated. She picked it up to see Madame Bell’s message.
She replied: [Mommy, thank you for caring. I can prepare my own dress.]
Madame Bell replied quickly: [Okay]
About half an hour later, the car arrived at the hospital.
She got out and walked into the hospital.
She had chosen to expedite the paternity test results; she would be able to get the report by the afternoon.
