Chapter 228: Chapter 228: What a Fool

"Idiot, ha!"

"You just need to follow my plans. If you use the people you find, James Thompson will soon figure it out. We just need to buy some time now."

The woman on the phone was filled with derision as she insulted Chloe Sullivan and then hung up.

Chloe Sullivan’s hand holding the phone trembled slightly, and her face changed colors.

It was the first time someone had called her an idiot to her face, and it felt particularly humiliating.

She had just expressed doubts that Savannah Summers looked worse than the people she had initially arranged.

What shocked and unsettled Chloe Sullivan the most, a highly sensitive person, was that the lady knew about her arranging plastic surgery for a woman—it was utterly chilling.

"Damn it," Chloe Sullivan murmured under her breath, grinding her teeth.

She knew there was no turning back now, only to continue following the lady’s instructions.

She had to meet with Madame Bell next.

"Director Land, your milk tea has arrived," a deep voice announced.

Julia Land looked up to see James Thompson standing by the door, and she couldn’t help but smile, "What brings you here?"

She had just thought Assistant Scott was coming in.

James Thompson smiled as he took off his mask and hat, revealing his handsome face.

He raised the milk tea in his hand and lazily muttered, "Brought you some love with milk tea."

Julia Land felt a warmth in her heart as she looked at the milk tea in his hand, "Mr. Thompson, that’s very thoughtful of you, thank you."

He placed the milk tea on the desk, leaning forward with his broad shoulders and noticeably narrow waist.

He reached across the desk and gently grasped Julia’s chin.

The movement was smooth and continuous.

Julia Land tilted her neck slightly, her lips parted, and the man’s hand brushed against her chin.

Afterward, Julia Land asked James Thompson to go sit on the sofa and behave himself.

She didn’t want any play in the office.

There was still some sense of shame.

"Did you come here for something?" Julia Land paused her work, inserting the straw into the cup and gently stirring the milk tea before taking a sip, the sweet taste making her eyes squint.

James Thompson nodded, "Today I found some new clues. I had people check on Chloe Sullivan. Before Savannah Summers came to disrupt things, she had gone to Chloe’s for a maid interview."

Julia Land furrowed her brows slightly, feeling a bit uneasy, "I always feel that this matter targets me or the Bell Family."

Thinking of Savannah Summers’s current appearance, she made a decision, "Mr. Thompson, should we send Savannah Summers out of Capital City first?"

James Thompson nodded, "Yes, we can send her away temporarily."

Julia Land also thought this was the best course of action, "Then let’s do that and arrange for her departure as soon as possible."

"I can’t believe Julia Land is my long-lost daughter. You don’t know how happy your godfather has been lately; he can’t even sleep at night," Madame Bell said with a tender smile, turning to Chloe Sullivan, who seemed to be daydreaming, "Little Chloe, what are you thinking about?"

Madame Bell had made dinner plans with Julia Land and was now shopping for gifts for her.

Chloe Sullivan had something to discuss with Madame Bell, so they decided to meet at the mall incidentally.

Coming back to her senses, Chloe Sullivan smiled, "Sorry, godmother, I was just lost in thought."

Madame Bell picked up a beautiful necklace, examining it closely, "I wonder if Julia will like this necklace."

Seeing Madame Bell happily selecting a necklace for Julia Land, Chloe Sullivan felt a coldness inside her.

But she maintained a gentle smile on her face, "Godmother’s taste is certainly great. You can use me as a model to check the effect."

Madame Bell smiled, handing the necklace to Chloe Sullivan, "Alright, Little Chloe, wear it and show me how it looks."

Chloe Sullivan accepted the necklace, "Alright."

She skillfully put on the necklace, and Madame Bell scrutinized it for a while and nodded in satisfaction, "Little Chloe, this necklace looks beautiful on you too."

Chloe Sullivan pressed her lips together in a smile, "Thank you, godmother. I think Miss Land will also look great wearing it."

Madame Bell nodded, her eyes filled with hope, "I hope Julia will like it."

She was buying something for her daughter for the first time, and she felt truly joyful.

A flicker of jealousy and resentment passed through Chloe Sullivan’s heart, but she knew she couldn’t show it now.

Madame Bell completed the gift purchase for Julia Land.

They found a restaurant to have afternoon tea as they had matters to discuss, so Chloe Sullivan specifically booked a private room.

At that moment, Madame Bell finally had the chance to ask why Chloe had wanted to meet today.

Chloe Sullivan looked down at her teacup, her face hesitant, and finally she spoke, "Godmother, you should know that Julia Land and I don’t get along."

Madame Bell was taken aback, looking earnestly at Chloe Sullivan, "Little Chloe, why bring this up all of a sudden?"

Chloe Sullivan looked up, her smile slightly bitter, "There’s something I didn’t want to mention, but since I’ve seen it, I should tell you. I interviewed a maid three days ago, and she has some resemblance to you."

Madame Bell frowned, "What do you mean?"

Chloe continued, "The maid’s name is Savannah Summers. She came from a village to work in Capital City. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention, but her resemblance to you caught my eye."

As she spoke, Chloe took a small bag from her purse, containing a few strands of hair, "This is her hair."

Madame Bell looked at the small bag of hair Chloe placed in front of her, confused for a moment, "Hmm?"

Chloe Sullivan spoke softly, "Godmother, she really looks a lot like you, almost like a mother and daughter. So, I suspect her identity, but... since I’m not sure, I could not speak recklessly."

Madame Bell took a deep breath, a flicker of unease in her eyes, "Do you want me to do a paternity test with Miss Summers?"

Chloe Sullivan nodded, her smile faint, "I didn’t want to bring it up, but it’s just too strange."

Madame Bell fell into contemplation, a mix of emotions surging in her heart.

She had already accepted that Julia Land was their daughter, but now, looking at that bag of hair, she felt a bit of doubt.

She finally made up her mind, "I’ll do another paternity test to see how it turns out."

"Godmother, can we not tell godfather about this for now? I’m worried that if the paternity test shows Miss Summers has no relation to you, godfather might be upset with me," Chloe Sullivan said worriedly.

Madame Bell nodded, "Okay, I won’t mention it for now."

Chloe Sullivan smiled apologetically, feeling a sigh of relief inside.

She had temporarily completed the task assigned by that woman.
