Chapter 226: Conspiracy Revealed
Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Conspiracy Revealed
The Bell Family’s mansion was elegantly decorated, exuding a grand aura.
The Bell couple warmly entertained Julia Land and James Thompson.
Madame Bell sat next to Julia Land, gently looking at her with complex emotions flickering in her eyes.
They couldn’t just sit there indefinitely.
Madame Bell broke the silence.
"Julia," Madame Bell gently asked, "can you tell us about your childhood?"
She had previously listened to some stories from Chloe Sullivan in the hospital, but those were just a synopsis.
Thinking about how her own daughter had shamelessly used her body to climb into Noah Quarter’s bed, Madame Bell sighed internally but still hoped to understand more about Julia’s past.
Julia smiled faintly, speaking lightly and casually, "Ms. Land took care of me for a few years, sent me to an orphanage when I was eight, remarried, and took me into the Langston Family at fifteen. After that, there’s not much to tell."
Only oneself can truly understand the hardships of life. Recalling those incidents now would only disturb the mind unnecessarily. Better to treat them with equanimity.
Connor Bell looked vigorous and spirited. Hearing that his daughter had been sent to an orphanage, greater guilt and pity filled his heart.
He said softly, "Julia, I want to throw a party on this Saturday to publicly announce your identity."
The Bell family had not hosted a party for many years. He had found his daughter, and he wanted to make it a grand event to announce Julia Land’s existence.
Madame Bell agreed, "Yes, we should host a party to let everyone know you are part of the Bell family."
Julia had no objections to the idea of a party and nodded.
Connor Bell looked at James Thompson, his eyes flashing sharply, "Are you two planning to get married?"
The father-in-law scrutinized his future son-in-law with a critical eye. Though he hadn’t been able to investigate thoroughly due to time constraints, he knew that his daughter’s marital life had not been smooth.
James Thompson sat upright and nodded politely, "Yes, we plan to get married after some time."
Connor Bell pondered for a moment. Moore had passed away not long ago, but now with the Bell family as her maternal home, no one would say anything.
He turned to look at Julia Land, his eyes gentle, "Julia, from now on, the Bell family will be your support. If anyone bullies you, come back home."
Hearing this, Julia genuinely smiled, "I understand, thank you...Dad."
She felt a bit shy when she called him ’Dad.’
Julia could genuinely feel Connor Bell’s concern for her.
However, her feelings towards Madame Bell were complicated. Just recently, Madame Bell had threatened her on Chloe Sullivan’s behalf.
Upon hearing Julia call him Dad, Connor’s eyes instantly misted.
Julia had dinner at the Bell family home before she and James Thompson left.
Connor would have liked Julia to stay at home, but he knew it was not possible now.
After they left, tranquility returned to the sprawling Bell residence.
Connor turned to look at Madame Bell, "Madame, remember to tell your family about finding our daughter."
Madame Bell smiled faintly and nodded, "Yes, I will call them tomorrow."
Having been married for many years, Connor knew his wife’s emotions very well.
He keenly sensed something different in her demeanor, "Madame, what’s wrong? Are you unhappy?"
Madame Bell shook her head, a trace of hesitation in her eyes, "No, I’m very happy we found our daughter, it’s just that Julia might feel estranged from me."
Connor took his wife’s hand, comforting her with a gentle tone, "Madame, don’t worry, Julia needs time to adjust. She won’t become completely close all at once. As long as we treat her well, she will gradually feel it."
Madame Bell’s voice was slightly choked, "She called you Dad, she didn’t call me Mom. Seeing her so distant, my heart feels a bit sad."
Connor Bell sighed and gently patted his wife’s shoulder, "Madame, let’s give our daughter more time to adapt."
"There’s one more thing," Connor’s expression suddenly turned serious, "we should not get too close to Little Chloe. Our daughter already has entanglements with her."
Madame Bell furrowed her brows, conflicted, "Isn’t that a bit unfair to Little Chloe? After all, we have been with that child for five years."
Connor, more rational about such matters than Madame Bell, shook his head with a firm tone, "It’s not that we won’t care about Little Chloe anymore, it’s just different now. Our daughter is the priority, and we must consider Julia’s feelings first."
Madame Bell understood her husband’s point, but still felt a bit guilty towards Chloe Sullivan, sighing lightly as she nodded.
**
After leaving the Bell Family, Julia and Mr. Thompson didn’t go straight home but to the hospital.
The woman who suddenly dashed across the street today had woken up.
"I’ve already sent someone to check that woman’s information," James Thompson held Julia’s hand, "Let Jasper Winters handle the hospital, you’re already tired today. Would you like to go home first?"
Thinking about how the woman’s face resembled Madame Bell’s by about thirty to forty percent, Julia pondered for a moment, "I’ll go see her myself; this matter is a bit strange."
James Thompson looked at Julia and knew that her decisions were not easily swayed; he nodded.
Julia shifted her body, her long legs straddled as she sat on James Thompson’s lap, wrapping her arms around his waist, leaning against him.
James Thompson gently caressed her back.
"Mr. Thompson, I’m very happy today."
"Mm."
*
The hospital corridor was brightly lit with a slight scent of disinfectant.
Julia and Mr. Thompson approached the ward’s door and saw Jasper Winters already waiting outside.
Jasper pushed open the door, and Julia followed Mr. Thompson inside.
In the ward.
A young woman leaned against the headboard, her complexion pale; she looked bewildered as she watched Julia and Mr. Thompson enter.
Julia, seeing the woman’s face again, felt her suspicions deepen.
She approached the bedside and said softly, "Miss, you suddenly rushed out today and almost caused a car accident."
The woman glanced at Julia, lowered her eyes, then said in a low voice, "I’m sorry, thank you for saving me. I was not feeling well today and didn’t notice I went the wrong way."
Jasper brought two chairs over for Julia and Mr. Thompson to sit down.
"What should I call you?" Julia asked casually as she sat down, but her gaze was fixed on the woman in the bed.
"My name is Savannah Summers." Savannah, nervously fidgeting with her fingers, spoke in a low voice, appearing uneasy.
Julia nodded, "Miss Summers, are you from Capital City? Where is your family?"
Savannah responded with a hint of fatigue, "I’m not from Capital City; I came here to work, I just arrived in Capital City not long ago."
Julia eyed Savannah Summers, choosing not to continue questioning, instead saying, "Miss Summers, rest well, and leave the hospital when you’re better."
Savannah exhaled in relief, "Thank you, I... once I earn some money, I’ll repay you for the medical expenses."
After leaving the ward.
Julia and Mr. Thompson stood in the corridor, the atmosphere somewhat tense.
Mr. Thompson’s eyes chilled slightly as he wrapped his arm around Julia’s waist, and they left the hospital together.
"We will clear this matter up, let’s go home and rest first."
