Chapter 221: Chapter 221 Inappropriate
Chloe Sullivan put down her soup bowl and sighed softly, hesitating before saying, "Madame Bell, I know a bit about the affair involving Julia Land, but the information might not be entirely accurate."
Madame Bell nodded, "Let’s hear it, I’m listening."
Chloe slowly said, "Julia was sent to an orphanage by her mother when she was a child."
"Later, her mother married into the Langston Family, which at the time had some assets, so her mother took her back from the orphanage to the Langston Family."
Madame Bell frowned in puzzlement, a hint of confusion in her tone, "How could her mother be so heartless as to send her child to an orphanage?"
Chloe’s gaze shifted slightly, complex expressions showing on her face.
She deliberately started with these pitiful details to lay the groundwork for speaking ill of her later on.
Chloe speculated purposefully, "Julia’s mother must have been compelled, and after her mother remarried and had a new family, she took her back."
Madame Bell shook her head, clearly disapproving, "That still doesn’t justify sending a child to an orphanage."
Chloe nodded in agreement and continued, "After graduating, Julia became Noah Quarter’s secretary and later married him. I heard she used some means."
She paused, observing Madame Bell’s expression, and continued, "Whether there were any tactics or if it was true, I’m not sure, they kept their marriage certificate a secret at that time. I don’t know how it eventually got leaked."
Madame Bell frowned again and thought, using means, must be some sordid affair like climbing into bed.
Chloe continued, "The Langstons’ investments failed and Julia’s mother asked her for money. Julia did not give her any, and eventually, Julia even had her mother imprisoned."
Madame Bell’s face showed sudden surprise, "What? She even had her own biological mother imprisoned?"
Her voice was full of shock.
Chloe sighed, a hint of helplessness flashing in her eyes, "Regardless of what Julia has done in the past, she is now the chairwoman of Moore Group and the daughter-in-law of the Moore Family, which, with such achievements, clearly shows she’s competent."
Her voice carried a hint of admiration for Julia’s capabilities and achievements.
Chloe quietly said, "Madame Bell, that’s all I know. I think Julia is a very formidable woman."
Madame Bell nodded silently and said faintly, "For a woman to achieve so much without the support of a family, it indeed is no small feat."
Julia is terrifyingly capable.
Noah Quarter, Christopher Moore, and James Thompson, all these men have complicated ties with Julia.
Madame Bell picked up a cup of water and slowly took a few sips, thinking of Julia’s resemblance to the great grandmother.
A complex emotion surged in her heart.
Meanwhile, Julia Land and Sophia Hart left the mall and decided to eat spicy hot pot in a restaurant.
The steaming hot pot was fragrant and aromatic.
Both were thrilled with the meal.
"Sister Julia, the spiciness of this hot pot restaurant is truly satisfying!" Sophia said with a giggle, picking up a piece of sauce-dipped beef and putting it into her mouth.
Julia nodded with a smile, "Yes, it tastes great. It’s been a while since I had hot pot. Make sure you eat plenty."
While they were enjoying their meal, Julia looked up and suddenly saw James.
James’s gaze quickly fell on Julia.
"How did you get here?" she asked, surprised.
James smiled and sat next to Julia, "I knew you were here, so I came to check on you."
"Have you installed a tracker on me?" Julia looked at him with a shadow in her eyes.
"No, I just happened to pass by and saw you," Mr. Thompson smiled.
While Sophia continued to cook the beef, she mumbled, "Looking at it isn’t the same as eating."
Julia forced a smile, trying to pull him to join them so he couldn’t scold her, "Have you... eaten yet?"
Hearing this, James couldn’t help but smile, "I haven’t, I’ll eat with you guys in a bit."
He then turned to call over the waiter, "Could you please change the broth, replace the spicy broth with the pork bone soup base, thank you."
Julia saw the spicy broth being replaced, and her face darkened.
Her favorite was the spicy, and just as she was enjoying it, it was suddenly replaced by a milder pork bone broth.
Her mood soured.
For the sake of a bite to eat, Julia thought of arguing with Mr. Thompson.
Julia gave him a helpless glare, but she knew James was doing this for her well-being.
Sophia pouted, "Brother Thompson, you dictator." She looked longingly as the spicy pot was taken away, "I hadn’t had enough spice yet. If Sister Julia can’t eat spicy, I still can. We could have gotten a split pot."
Seeing their dismayed expressions, James secretly amused himself.
If it weren’t for Julia having her period, he wouldn’t have spoiled their mood halfway through.
"Doctor Thompson wants to remind you that a lighter diet is better for the stomach."
Julia and Sophia exchanged looks, telepathically planning to sneak out for a spicy feast next time.
The three of them cooked their food in the hot pot and soon finished eating.
Sophia hurriedly made an excuse about having something to do and said she needed to leave.
"How did you get here?" Sophia paid for the drinks and turned to ask the man next to her.
Thomas Sullivan stood beside Sophia, his facial features stern and resolute, "I sent you a message, and you didn’t reply."
So he came directly to Capital City.
Sophia, holding a drink in her hand, walked and talked, "We really aren’t suitable."
She thought he would understand.
"Is it because of that man?" Thomas’s eyes showed a trace of complexity, not willing to give up.
Sophia stopped walking, turned to look at Thomas, and didn’t want to deceive him, "It’s somewhat related, yes."
Thomas heard this, helplessly chuckled, a hint of bitterness in his laughter.
Pain flickered in his eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
Thomas reached out his arm and gently embraced Sophia, his voice low and gentle, "Don’t move, let me hold you for a moment."
Sophia’s body tensed slightly but soon relaxed.
She knew Thomas had been earnestly pursuing her for years, but she had never reciprocated because of Chloe.
Until Andrew Benson appeared recently, making her realize she hadn’t truly moved on from past emotions.
At that moment.
In a black sedan nearby.
Andrew Benson’s gaze narrowed.
He watched the embracing couple on the roadside, a corner of his mouth lifting in a faint smile.
The smile didn’t reach his eyes.
