Chapter 217: Chapter 217 He Lowered His Head

Victor Langston’s rented room was in a cluttered little alley.

He could still smell the stench of the gutter on his way there.

His electric bike was parked in front of a dilapidated dangerous building.

During her years in prison, Grace Land had almost cured herself of the high-class ailments she once had.

However, as she followed her son into that cramped room, she couldn’t help but cry.

The room was only large enough to fit a bed, a small table, and a tiny toilet.

The entire environment was simple and narrow.

"Mom, don’t cry. I have to go to work. If you’re hungry, you can cook some noodles for yourself. The noodles are over there."

Victor Langston pointed at the only table in the room.

On the table, there was an induction cooker, noodles, and some seasoning.

Grace Land wiped away her tears—she had hoped to enjoy a nice meal today after getting out of that place, and yet she was greeted by noodles.

She managed to force a faint smile, "I understand."

Victor Langston, in a rush for time, hurried off to work after giving his instructions.

"Son, wait, give me the phone."

Victor Langston took out the used phone from his pocket and handed it to Grace Land before leaving.

Grace Land pulled out a low stool from under the table and sat down.

She looked around and finally felt that life after prison would still be tough.

She was released early on good behavior, otherwise she would still be languishing in prison.

The thought of Julia Land made Grace Land’s teeth itch with hatred.

That woman said Julia Land had now become the chairman of the Moore Group.

This made Grace Land even more resentful.

She turned on the phone and searched for the Moore Group in Capital City.

Information about Julia Land taking over as the chairman of the Moore Group appeared quickly online.

In the photo, Julia Land was wearing a sharp business suit, looking confident and composed.

Grace Land glared intensely at Julia Land.

"Julia Land, you just wait!" she gritted her teeth, swearing with resentment.

She continued to browse through the reports, her gaze unblinkingly fixed on the screen.

It was all Julia Land’s fault that she had to serve so many years in prison.

Grace Land was filled with resentment.

She believed that Julia Land must have traded her body to latch onto another wealthy man.

Despicable woman! Grace Land thought bitterly.

Back then, she should have thrown Julia Land into the river and drowned her, getting rid of this disaster once and for all.

Feeling hungry, Grace Land cursed Julia Land in her mind as she went to grab a pot to boil water for noodles.

Her gaze occasionally flicked to the photo of Julia Land on the phone screen, filled with loathing.

The bright smile of Julia Land was like an irritation to Grace Land’s nerves.

The water boiled, and Grace Land put the noodles into the hot water, while in her mind she was calculating the right moment to take her revenge on Julia Land.

The plain noodles tasted bland—without a single vegetable or egg.

This sense of disparity only fueled her hatred further.

James Thompson came out of the bedroom after taking a shower.

Julia Land looked up to see his hair was not dried, put down her phone, and quickly pushed him back into the bathroom, "Dry your hair first."

"My hair is short, it’ll dry quickly." He complied and walked into the bathroom, the corners of his mouth curling up in a triumphant smile.

"Dry it a bit, it’ll be quick. You’re so lazy," Julia Land nagged him as she picked up the blow dryer, "Bow your head."

The man was too tall for her to reach, so she needed him to bow down.

James Thompson bent over, cooperating with her.

Once the dryer was turned on, the warm air blew onto his hair.

She ran her fingers through his hair, and in just two to three minutes, it was dry. She turned off the blow dryer.

James Thompson straightened up, touching his now-dry hair, his lips bearing a slight smile.

Julia Land rolled her eyes at him, but laughter was in her eyes too.

Julia Land’s legs came together as she lay in bed at night.

She stopped James Thompson, who was ready for another round.

"Let’s talk for a bit first," the woman said, her cheeks flushed as she lifted her chin slightly.

James Thompson, "..."

When it was time to make a move, an unexpected halt was called.

He lay down helplessly, pulling the quilt over him with the shadow of disappointment, "What’s up?"

Julia Land turned on her side, resting her head on one hand, and looked at James Thompson with a hint of confusion in her eyes, "What’s up with Andrew Benson? He seems to really like Sophia."

James Thompson sighed and recited a "Heart Clarity Spell" under his breath, then gently stroked Julia’s hair, "Sometimes relationships between people are very complex, especially after misunderstandings and separations. It gets even more complicated."

Julia frowned slightly, "But why won’t he clear things up? If they don’t resolve what happened before, Sophia will always have a thorn in her side."

Mr. Thompson raised an eyebrow, "What happened?"

Julia recounted the things Sophia had told her.

After listening, James Thompson kissed her on the forehead, "Let Sophia deal with it on her own. We can support her, but we can’t interfere with their feelings."

Julia also knew that outsiders shouldn’t intervene in such matters. She shifted, resting her face against James’s chest, "Mm."

She traced small circles on his chest and spoke lazily, "The night is alluring. Shall we continue?"

James Thompson grasped her hand and in a swift motion, flipped over and pinned her down once again.

Sometimes Julia really enjoyed watching Mr. Thompson, who appeared so refined on the surface, with his face showing a hint of restraint.

She opened her lips slightly, nibbling on his fingers.

Her black hair spread over the white sheets, her fingers tightly clutching the linens.

The next morning.

Julia went straight to a meeting as soon as she arrived at work.

This morning’s meeting finally concluded the details of competing with Lewis Corporation and collaborating with Asia Cloud Group.

When the meeting was over, she walked out of the conference room.

Assistant Scott whispered, "Chairman, the chairman of Thompson Group is waiting for you in the lounge."

Julia raised an eyebrow and suddenly stopped, asking in surprise, "Elder Thompson?"

Assistant Scott nodded.

She didn’t return to her office but went directly to the lounge.

Opening the door to the lounge, she saw Elder Thompson sitting on the sofa, looking imposing.

"Uncle Thompson, what brings you here?" Julia walked over calmly and sat down, asking with curiosity.

Cody Thompson looked at Julia, his eyes flashing with complexity, "Julia, I came today to talk to you about Eleanor and her brother’s situation."

He had heard about what happened at the kindergarten from the butler after returning home from work the day before.

While angry, he also felt that his son and Julia were too indifferent.

It was cold not to come back and help even when a child had fallen.

But his visit today wasn’t about what happened at the kindergarten; it was about sending the twins abroad.

Julia smiled, "Please, go ahead."

Elder Thompson glanced at her and spoke slowly, "Eleanor and her brother are my grandchildren, and I don’t want them to get hurt because of the adults’ conflicts. Julia, I hope you can understand the feelings of an elder."

They sat opposite each other, the atmosphere heavy.

He said sternly, "If you can change James’s mind about sending Eleanor and her brother abroad, I will announce the recognition of Dale Land’s identity to the public. Likewise, I will allocate shares in Thompson Group to her."

Upon hearing this, Julia curved her lips into a light smile, "Uncle Thompson, Dale’s surname is with me; she is a Land, and whether or not you acknowledge her really isn’t that important. As for shares in Thompson Group, we don’t covet them; both James and I have the ability to give our daughter the very best."

Elder Thompson’s face shifted slightly.

He had known that coming to Julia might not work.

Well then.

He stood up with a cold expression and left.

Julia followed to help him to the door with a faint look in her eyes.

After sending Cody Thompson off, Julia returned to her office and called James Thompson.

She relayed Elder Thompson’s words to him without missing a single detail.

At the end of the phone, James Thompson couldn’t help but let out a light chuckle after hearing Julia’s robotic recitation, "One after another, they all know that only you can persuade me."

Julia was momentarily speechless; Mr. Thompson’s focus was skewed, "Is that something you should be proud of?"

James’s laughter deepened, musing, "Of course I’m proud. In this world, you’re the only one who can manage me."

An unexpected burst of sweet talk.

Julia smiled and said, "I’m hanging up now; I’m busy."

"Mm."

His deep response echoed in her ear.

He put the phone down after hearing the click of Julia hanging up.

Thinking of Elder Thompson’s conversation with Julia, he thought nonchalantly that the old man must have become muddled.

His own daughter would naturally have a banquet to announce her identity when the time came.
