Chapter 202: Chapter 202: So Awkward

Chloe Sullivan was startled when Connor Bell suddenly asked about the photo album.

She was taken aback for a moment and accidentally knocked over the water glass she was holding.

Madame Bell quickly called a maid over and handed Chloe a tissue.

Chloe said, "I’m sorry."

Madame Bell comforted her, "It’s okay, Chloe, do you need to change your clothes? I have a dress I’ve never worn, do you want to change into it?"

Chloe smiled, "It’s just a little wet, no worries."

Madame Bell agreed and didn’t insist on her changing, but instead turned to Connor, "Why did you suddenly ask for the photo album?"

"I want to take a look," Connor replied. He had last browsed the album twenty years ago, which Madame Bell had brought from her parents’ home.

He was looking at photos of his wife, and only glimpsed briefly at the other photos.

The photo albums at home were rarely taken out for viewing. The last time Madame Bell had taken it out, Chloe had taken it away.

The photos in it of Madame Bell had been developed and inserted by her mother-in-law.

"Godmother, I know where the album is, shall I go get it?" Chloe had returned the album last time and was responsible for placing it back in the cabinet.

Madame Bell nodded without much thought.

Chloe retrieved the album, her slender fingers flipping to an old black-and-white photo.

Though she had blurred the faces in the photo, Chloe was still a bit uneasy this time.

She bit her lip secretly, removed the photo, and slipped it into her trouser pocket.

Fortunately, she was wearing trousers with pockets today.

Chloe closed the album, carried it downstairs, and handed it to Connor, "I looked at the photos last time too, godmother was really a beauty when she was young."

Madame Bell laughed, "You cheeky girl!"

Connor smiled faintly as he turned the pages of the album.

Chloe sat next to Madame Bell, feeling nervous all the while, almost hearing the sound of Connor flipping through the album.

Page by page.

Chloe’s heart raced.

Madame Bell thought Connor’s sudden interest in the album was a whim, and asked, "Brother, why the sudden desire to look at the album?"

"I just felt like it."

Connor didn’t elaborate as he was still not sure.

They had been searching for their daughter for over twenty years and had faced many disappointments.

He turned the pages until he reached the last one.

Somewhat disappointed, it seemed he had remembered wrongly.

When Connor closed the album, Chloe listened intently without changing her expression.

Connor dropped the subject after finishing.

Chloe left the Bell residence, got into her car, and touched her back, which was indeed wet.

Her expression instantly darkened, and she wished she could tear up the blurred photo in her pocket right then.

As the car arrived home, she got out, went straight to her bedroom, tore up the photo, then made a phone call.

"Help me find a woman, I’ll send you her photo, not too smart, not too foolish."

They miss their daughter, she could find them one.

The next morning, Julia Land happily wanted to stay snuggled in bed.

But having rested the previous day, she had no choice but to go to work today.

After getting up, she found out that James Thompson and Dale Land had already gone out to jog.

Julia quickly had breakfast and rushed to the Moore Group office.

She was also busy today as the online shopping platform of Moore Group was revamped.

The new version would recommend types suitable for the customers based on big data, and the interface was simplified.

Julia attended a meeting, listened to reports from various departments, and when the meeting ended, she took out her phone on hearing it vibrate with a message alert.

It was from Sophia Hart.

[Sister Julia, I’m coming to Capital City to see you today]

Julia smiled upon seeing the message, [Great, I’ll send you my home address]

Right after sending the message, her phone rang again, this time it was a video call from James Thompson.

Julia walked into her office and answered the call.

On screen, James sat at home on the couch, wearing casual home attire.

He looked very relaxed.

Julia glanced at the time, "Why are you calling me at this hour?"

James Thompson asked in a low voice, "Will you come home for dinner tonight?"

"I’ll try."

She saw the look of disappointment on Mr. Thompson’s face.

Mr. Thompson had been rather clingy lately.

Just as Julia pursed her lips to blow a kiss through the phone, suddenly, Dale Land’s chubby face appeared in the frame.

"......"

That kiss became quite awkward.

Dale thought Julia wanted to kiss her, the little one covered her mouth with her hand, and with a smack, she sent a kiss pressed into her palm to Julia.

James Thompson, watching the mother-daughter exchange kisses through the air, chuckled.

"Mommy, will you come home for dinner tonight?" Dale asked.

"Yes," Julia didn’t want to refuse her daughter.

James finally understood, he came second in Julia’s heart.

His position in the family was indeed worrying.

When he asked her, she answered, "I’ll try."

When her daughter asked her, she answered, "Yes."

James Thompson hurriedly chatted with Julia while coaxing Dale away.

"By the way, Mr. Thompson, Sophia will probably come to our house today."

After discussing matters, Julia hung up the call due to work.

"....."

Mr. Thompson watched the ended video call helplessly.

In the late afternoon, Julia returned home and was greeted by Sophia Hart, whom she hadn’t seen in years.

"Sister Julia!"

Overwhelmed with emotion, Sophia hugged Julia tightly.

Julia laughed and gently patted Sophia on the back.

Tears welled up in Sophia’s eyes as she cried, "Sister Julia, it’s so good you’re back! I’m sorry."

"It has nothing to do with you."

"How can it not, if it weren’t for me needing to be saved you wouldn’t have been taken away."

Sophia grew increasingly upset as she spoke.

James Thompson could no longer bear it, he patted Sophia on the shoulder.

Tears still brimming in her eyes, Sophia let go of Julia, not understanding why Brother Thompson had patted her.

James spoke frankly, "Little Julia has just come back from work and is very tired, let her go take a shower while you can cry over there on your own."

"Oh!"

James looped his arm around Julia’s shoulder and headed upstairs, before leaving he also reminded Sophia that she could cry while helping to watch the kids.
