Chapter 196 Waiting to Hold You
Chapter 196: Chapter 196 Waiting to Hold You
Leaving the Western restaurant, Julia Land sat in the car pondering over what Maxwell Bell truly meant.
That man had told her that James Thompson had admitted Chloe Sullivan to a psychiatric hospital for her sake.
Was it a warning?
Before she could figure out Maxwell Bell’s intentions,
the car had already arrived at the entrance to her home.
Assistant Scott got out to open the gate while Julia stepped out of the car and lifted her gaze to see Mr. Thompson standing by the door.
As Julia walked over, James Thompson naturally wrapped his arm around her waist. He thanked Assistant Scott before entering the house with Julia in his embrace.
"Why are you waiting for me at the door?"
"I was worried you might have had a drink, so I was prepared to carry you out of the car."
Julia mumbled to herself, "I wouldn’t drink too much when I’m out; there’s no need for you to wait at the door for me."
She looked up only to catch his indulgent gaze.
Julia ceased her muttering.
After entering the house and changing shoes, she washed her hands before sitting down on the living room sofa.
"Did you have enough to eat tonight?" James brought her a glass of milk from the kitchen.
Julia accepted the glass and took a few sips, "I’m full, Mr. Thompson, do you know much about Maxwell Bell?"
"Steady in character, stable in actions," James Thompson wiped the milk from her lips, reminding her, "The Bell Family is very protective of Chloe Sullivan. If you’re going to have a collaboration with the Bell Family, you need to scrutinize the contract carefully."
Mentioning Chloe Sullivan made Julia frown. She nodded and told James Thompson about what Maxwell Bell had said to her about Chloe being sent to the psychiatric hospital.
She asked, "What does he mean by telling me this?"
James Thompson’s gaze turned slightly cold, "He wants to let you know that Chloe Sullivan is now under the protection of the Bell Family."
Julia rolled her eyes.
Worried that Julia might not understand the complexities of the Bell Family, James slowly explained, "The Bell Family is an old establishment, having been around for nearly two hundred years. Even though the Thompson Family is the wealthiest now, we still can’t compare to the Bell family in terms of heritage."
"Moreover, the most important factor is Madame Bell’s maternal family status. At any time, government officials rank before business."
Julia was aware of the intricate dynamics.
If she wanted to continue her career in the country, she couldn’t avoid dealing with the government. Julia nodded, "I understand. Arthur might not necessarily choose to work with the Moore Family."
She wasn’t insistent anyway.
After discussing this matter, Julia went to take a shower, and afterward, she went to check on the already sleeping Dale Land.
The little girl’s starfish-like sleeping position was increasingly adorable.
"Goodnight, my darling."
Julia kissed her forehead and quietly left Dale’s room.
Returning to the bedroom, she saw James Thompson on a phone call.
James waved her over, and Julia sat down, nestling into his embrace.
He held her while listening to the furious voice of Cody Thompson on the other end of the line.
"James Thompson, Julia is now the Moore Family’s daughter-in-law. You should let go. For a man to be so wrapped up in a woman is ridiculous."
James Thompson replied with an indifferent expression, "Christopher Moore is dead, and I’m willing to continue being her man."
Cody Thompson gagged, "Who was that little girl you took to the amusement park yesterday?"
With a mocking smile, James Thompson said, "Of course, she is my real daughter. Mr. Thompson, you ordered to shoot five years ago and almost killed her, have you forgotten?"
Cody Thompson snorted, "That was for your own good. If you’d gone then with your injuries, Moore could’ve easily killed you."
With a resigned, cold chuckle, James Thompson replied, "Whether it’s about my daughter or my affair, you always say it’s for our good."
He hung up the call.
James Thompson was well aware of Cody Thompson’s obstinate character.
"Some parents always think they’re doing what’s best for their children. Little Pear, let’s hope we can do well in our roles as mom and dad."
James Thompson lifted Julia onto the bed.
"Goodnight, Little Pear."
"Goodnight, Mr. Thompson."
James Thompson propped himself up beside her and they shared a goodnight kiss.
Julia pulled up the blanket, placing one leg on top of it, finding a comfortable position.
Time to sleep.
James Thompson slept holding Julia from behind.
*
Meanwhile, at the Thompson Family residence.
Cody Thompson almost struggled to breathe after the sudden end of the phone call.
Maya Chant gently patted his back and glared at him, "Don’t get angry. It’s not like this is the first day you know that James Thompson has such a temper."
Cody Thompson took a sip of water, "Back then it was all for his own good. Had I known, I would’ve just let him go get himself killed by Moore."
"Children are always one’s debts." Maya sat down, rubbing her eyes, and started crying.
Cody Thompson jumped, "What are you crying for all of a sudden? I didn’t even scold you."
"My grandson finally built up his company, and now it’s been ruined by James Thompson. When is he going to stop tormenting Noah?"
When Maya learned from Leah Thompson that Noah’s company had been sabotaged again, her hatred for James Thompson only grew.
Cody Thompson frowned, feeling helpless against James.
But after so many years together, he couldn’t just ignore the situation. "I will invest some money in it," he stated directly.
Maya wiped away her tears, "Won’t James get angry?"
"He doesn’t have to know. Besides, it’s my money, what’s there to get angry about?"
**
Chloe Sullivan got up early in the morning. She took the cup used by Julia and also the bottle used by Madame Bell to a highly reputable hospital for a paternity test.
She chose to expedite the process.
She would be able to get the result by the afternoon.
Waiting at a nearby coffee shop, her emotions were a tumultuous mix.
Hoping she was just overthinking.
As Chloe Sullivan mulled over the information she received from Grace Land, her nerves were on edge.
Julia couldn’t possibly be so lucky.
