Chapter 195: Chapter 195 Adam’s Apple

Assistant Scott knocked on the door and entered the office, his expression subtly strange, "Director, the engineer has arrived."

Julia Land was fixated on her computer screen and did not notice Assistant Scott’s subtle expression.

She said, "Alright, please direct him to the meeting room, and notify the heads of the technical, product, design, sales, operations, and data departments to come for a meeting."

She secretly gave Mr. Thompson a thumbs up for sending someone over so quickly.

"Yes."

Assistant Scott went out to inform the department heads, who received the notification and quickly went to the meeting room.

Julia Land entered the meeting room and saw the engineer sent by James Thompson...

The man in front of her wore a brown curly wig, black-rimmed glasses, and a mask, and he extended his hand towards Julia Land in an exaggerated manner, "Director Land, hello."

Julia Land, "...Hello."

"I have a bit of a cold, so I’m wearing a mask to protect everyone."

"...Hmm."

As long as you’re happy.

They were still shaking hands.

Julia Land wanted to withdraw her hand, but the man with the fake brown curly hair lasciviously rubbed her wrist before letting go.

She gave the man a speechless stare.

The smile in James Thompson’s eyes behind the glasses gleamed, "Director Land, it’s a pleasure to meet you, please call me ’Mr. Ambition.’"

Julia Land kept a straight face, "...Mr. Ambition, please take a seat."

Other department heads were also in the meeting room, and after exchanging a few words they started the meeting.

"Optimize the website to provide a personalized experience to customers. Our shopping web page needs an upgrade, and each department should provide requirements and suggestions to allow the technical department to upgrade the website. I have invited a professional engineer to guide the technical department."

For such matters, Julia Land simply needed to provide a general direction, and the rest would be handled by the respective departments.

She just needed to see the final results.

She was busy with other things and, after listening to half an hour of discussion among the heads, nodded.

She stood up to leave the meeting room.

"Please continue the discussion, thank you, Mr. Ambition."

James Thompson watched Julia Land’s indifferent departure, "..."

Such a brief interaction.

With the director gone, the atmosphere in the meeting room finally relaxed.

James Thompson raised an eyebrow, it seems her short time at the Moore Group has established a decent level of authority.

*

Julia Land habitually drank a cup of coffee in the morning to wake herself up.

Just half an hour before she left the director’s office for the meeting room, her secretary took the cup she had drunk from to be cleaned.

In the pantry, the cleaning lady was wiping the sink when she saw the secretary come in, smiled, and said, "Mia, just leave the cup here, I’ll wash it and bring it over to you later."

"Okay, thank you."

Mia Dunn placed the cup down and walked out of the pantry.

When the secretary had left, the cleaning lady looked around; it was clear now.

She opened the bag around her waist and took out a cup that looked identical to the one on the counter.

She quickly wrapped Julia Land’s used coffee cup in a clear plastic bag and put it in her bag.

When Chloe Sullivan received the message that the cup had already been collected, she was painting and inadvertently added an extra stroke to her work.

The painting was ruined, but she wasn’t angry.

"Bring it over tonight."

She took off her Bluetooth earpiece and smiled.

She had initially planned to find a way to get ahold of Julia Land’s hair, but that had proven too difficult, so she opted instead to get Julia Land’s used cup.

Such a task was easy to accomplish as long as the money was right; securing a cup was naturally something people were willing to do.

Chloe Sullivan changed her clothes.

She went to visit Madame Bell at the Bell Clan.

Madame Bell was bored at home, usually busying herself with flower arranging and reading books. Seeing Chloe Sullivan come over, she immediately had the butler prepare a glass of juice for Chloe Sullivan.

"Godmom, I bought tickets for a play, how about we go watch it together later?"

"What play?"

"Traditional opera."

Madame Bell liked watching plays, and since she was free today, "I’ll go change."

Chloe Sullivan sat in the living room drinking half a glass of juice when Madame Bell, dressed in a cheongsam, came downstairs.

She put down the juice glass and exclaimed, "Godmom, I think you really suit wearing a cheongsam, you look very graceful."

Madame Bell smiled, "You always know just what to say, let’s go."

"I’m only telling the truth," Chloe Sullivan winked and smiled.

The Capital Opera House hosted this performance.

As Chloe Sullivan left the theatre after the opera, she rifled through her bag, "Godmother, wait for me a moment; I’m going to grab my phone."

While she went back for her phone, she placed Madame Bell’s used water bottle into a plastic bag and tucked it into her purse to take with her.

"I found the phone; let’s go."

*

At five in the afternoon, Julia Land was scheduled to meet Maxwell Bell.

As she got into the car, she noticed James Thompson was also there and raised an eyebrow.

James was programming, his brown wig already removed but still wearing his black glasses. His fingers paused from typing, "Little Julia, what’s for dinner?"

"I can’t join you for dinner tonight, I have a meeting with Maxwell," Julia continued to secure the brown wig on the man’s head, stroking her chin, "Mr. Ambition, if you ever go bald, wearing a wig wouldn’t be so bad."

James, resigned, said, "Can’t you just hope my hair stays thick forever?"

Julia pictured James bald, and shook her head, genuinely worried she might lose her affection.

She was superficial after all.

"What are you thinking about?"

"Thinking that the day you go bald will be the day I lose my love for you."

"....."

James was offended. He turned back to his programming, unwilling to speak with Ms. Julia Land.

After a few seconds, he bitterly expressed, "It’s not all about looks for a man; you have to look at capabilities, like earning potential, familial love, performance in bed."

Julia replied nonchalantly, "Oh, I’ll take note."

James, "......" didn’t feel she really took note.

Julia arrived at the place where she was to meet Maxwell Bell.

Before getting out of the car, she moved in front of James.

At his slightly open collar, she licked and nibbled at his Adam’s apple.

Then, she smiled as she got out of the car.

James raised his hand, touching his Adam’s apple, and silently smiled.

*

Julia and Maxwell Bell had arranged to meet at a western restaurant.

Like those who weren’t there purely to eat, they both opted for a private booth.

Julia arrived ten minutes early, only to find Maxwell had arrived even earlier.

The waiter pulled out a chair.

Julia sat down.

"Mr. Bell, shall we order first?"

Having come straight from work, Julia wasn’t about to torture her stomach; she was hungry.

Maxwell nodded, and they each ordered their favored dishes.

Once the orders were taken, the waiter left.

Maxwell picked up his teacup, taking a few sips.

He noticed the ring on Julia’s ring finger.

Julia, aware of his gaze on her hand, raised an eyebrow and asked lightly, "Mr. Bell, what made you suddenly decide to discuss a partnership?"

Maxwell responded, "A successful partnership isn’t guaranteed; Bell Clan’s high-end luxury goods are only sold in physical stores."

This was just a preliminary talk; if Julia could convince him, they could proceed to more discussions.

Julia nodded, "I understand that selling high-end luxury goods online could compromise their exclusive status, and it might lead to more counterfeit products."

Maxwell listened without interrupting.

He had arranged today’s meeting with Julia mainly to understand what kind of person she was.

A woman liked by both James Thompson and Christopher Moore was no ordinary woman.

The waiter knocked on the door.

They brought in the ordered meals.

Julia planned to eat her fill before continuing the discussion about the partnership.

After she finished eating, setting aside her knife and fork,

She wiped her red lips, "Mr. Bell, I have brought a proposal. Feel free to take it back and look it over. If you’re interested, you’re welcome to discuss it at Moore Group."

Julia sensed there was an ulterior motive behind Maxwell’s invitation, as though he was not just there for the meal.

Even though he behaved like a gentleman, Julia still detected his scrutinizing gaze.

"Mrs. Moore."

This time, he didn’t call her Director Land.

Maxwell’s voice was calm and steady as he disclosed, "Five years ago, James had Chloe Sullivan committed to a psychiatric hospital for you."
