Chapter 194: Chapter 194: You Are Not Capable

"Tell me! In what way am I not as good as her! Is it because hers are bigger than mine? I can get surgery too!" Julia Land clenched her eyes shut, her face turning dark.

Chloe Sullivan’s sudden disrobing caught him off guard, unable to react.

He tensed his abdomen and sat up, causing Chloe, who was unsteady, to fall backward.

Maxwell Bell could only open his eyes and hold her waist to keep her from falling.

He quickly pulled Chloe’s clothes back on her in a hasty manner.

Both of them yanked at the clothing, one trying to dress, the other to undress, creating a tangled struggle.

Maxwell Bell never anticipated that dealing with a drunk person could be so troublesome.

"I want to take a bath," Chloe murmured resentfully.

"Go on, then."

Maxwell Bell had run out of patience.

He supported her to the bedroom couch and filled the bathtub with water in the bathroom. Only after the water was ready did he help the drunken woman into the bathroom.

He didn’t undress her but instead carried her and placed her directly into the tub.

Worried she might drown herself, he could only stand in the bathroom and wait.

Maxwell Bell took out his phone to reply to work messages, responding to texts and taking calls about work while in the bathroom.

Chloe looked down, idly playing with the water.

The presence of Julia Land had triggered her sense of crisis.

She was terribly afraid that one day the Bell family wouldn’t protect her anymore, afraid that James Thompson would send her back to the psychiatric hospital.

To forestall any such possibility,

she had to make Maxwell Bell her safety net too.

Everyone must look out for themselves.

Maxwell was only focused on work; he was a man of few words.

His kindness towards her was only on account of his parents.

Chloe’s eyes were brooding and deep.

Slowly, she undressed in the water and let herself sink in.

Maxwell Bell was discussing work with a subordinate when he turned and didn’t see Chloe.

He furrowed his brows and hung up, walking closer to the tub.

He quickly reached out to grab Chloe who had slipped under the water.

He performed emergency first aid on her.

Chloe groggily came to.

She slowly opened her eyes, frowning, "Uncomfortable."

Maxwell Bell, seeing that Chloe was alright, breathed a sigh of relief, and now he noticed her current state for the first time.

Expressionless, he went to get a bathrobe, wrapped her in it, and placed her on the bed.

Chloe, probably exhausted from her ordeal, fell asleep on her own.

When she woke up again, it was already dark outside.

She sat up, the blanket slipping off. Rubbing her eyes, she saw the man sitting on the couch.

Quietly, she drew the blanket up over herself.

"Arthur," she called.

Maxwell Bell, hearing her voice, rubbed his temples and stood up. He looked at Chloe, "You’re awake; I’m heading back now. Next time you drink, make sure someone is home."

Chloe lowered her head in admission of fault, her ears reddening, "I’m sorry for the trouble."

She clutched the blanket tightly.

Her luminous shoulders peeked out.

There was a moment of mutual embarrassment.

"I’m leaving; there’s porridge prepared for you in the kitchen."

Maxwell Bell walked out of the bedroom and left Chloe’s place, waiting outside for his driver to pick him up.

Thinking that Chloe was upset because of James Thompson, he still took out his phone and called his secretary.

"Arrange a meeting for me with Director Land from the Moore Group. Tell her it’s about the luxury goods business of the Bell Clan."

He wanted to see Julia Land.

*

In the evening.

After her bath, Dale Land donned a yellow duck bathrobe, looking fresh and sprightly.

Her chubby toes stretched wide on a little stool.

James Thompson squatted down, helping Dale clip her toenails.

Julia Land walked into the living room rubbing her temples to find James helping their daughter with her nails.

Under the light, father and daughter shared an amiable atmosphere.

Seeing them, Julia felt her exhaustion from the day vanish in an instant – of course, this was just a metaphor.

Like they say, mentally refreshed but physically tired.

"Mommy!"

"Little Pear!"

Both their eyes lit up at the sight of Julia, calling out to her.

Julia, amused, walked over and bent to give them a kiss on the forehead.

James stood up, "Dale, you watch cartoons. Daddy will help Mommy prepare the bath."

As soon as Dale heard she could watch cartoons, her eyes crinkled with joy. She waved a small hand, "Okay, Mommy is tired, Dale will be good."

Her little toes on the stool danced happily.

James’s eyes carried a smile as he tidied the nail clippers and, wrapping an arm around Julia, headed for the bedroom.

He turned on the bathtub faucet in the bathroom.

Julia went to the closet to get clothes and then went to the bathroom to brush her teeth.

While brushing unclearly, she asked, "Mr. Thompson, where can I find a really professional computer programmer?"

James looked up, his eyebrows lifting, "Far in the horizon, close at hand."

Julia gave him a cool glance, "You’re not up to it."

"....."

That statement could be misconstrued.

She clarified, "We need to keep our relationship concealed for a while longer."

James stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her, "I understand. I’ll send someone to the Moore Group to see you tomorrow."

Julia detected a sulking tone in his words.

Her eyes flickering purposefully, she twisted at the waist, grinding against him.

James’s jaw tensed.

His eyes darkened, and without civility, he gave her a smack on the bottom, his voice hoarse, "I’ll go to the living room to keep Dale company."

They were both uneasy leaving the child alone in the living room for too long.

He walked elegantly out of the bathroom.

Julia’s gaze followed downwards.

The bathroom door considerately closed.

Julia laughed softly to herself, stepped into the tub, and sank into the warm water with a comfortable sigh.

She thought about the phone call she had received tonight, Maxwell Bell, somehow changing his tone, requesting a meeting to discuss the luxury product business.

It was a bit odd.
