Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Encounter

At three in the afternoon.

Julia Land brought gifts to the hospital.

Chloe Sullivan heard someone knocking on the door, went to open it, and the moment she saw Julia Land, her smile instantly faded, "Oh, it’s Mrs. Moore."

Julia Land hadn’t expected to encounter Chloe Sullivan, she nodded her head, "I came to visit Madame Bell."

Chloe Sullivan actually did not want Julia Land to meet the Bell family often.

Madame Bell was leaning on the hospital bed. Seeing it was Julia Land, she spoke softly, "Chloe, let the guest in."

Chloe Sullivan moved aside.

Julia Land walked in with a smile.

Only after she entered did she notice two children in the room, and a guess faintly formed in her mind.

Julia Land placed the gifts on the table and asked, "Madame Bell, how are you feeling today?"

"Just the old ailment. It really is embarrassing to have this happen at the banquet."

Madame Bell genuinely felt embarrassed.

Julia Land comforted her softly, "We’re very happy that you could attend the banquet at the Moore’s."

"Why don’t you sit down and chat?" Madame Bell said gently to the two children, "Eleanor, William, come over here to grandma, say hello to Auntie Julia."

Upon hearing the name Eleanor, Julia Land guessed that these were the twins from five years ago.

Her feelings... were a bit complicated.

She pulled over a chair and sat down.

The two children politely greeted her, and Julia Land nodded with a smile.

Chloe Sullivan’s eyes twinkled slightly, and she spoke affectionately with Madame Bell, "Godmother, what fruit would you like to eat? I’ll peel it for you."

"An apple," Madame Bell instructed her to be careful while peeling, "Don’t cut your hand with the knife."

Chloe Sullivan nodded, "Mmm, Godmother, I’m not a kid anymore," she suddenly looked up and asked Julia Land, "Mrs. Moore, should I peel an apple for you too?"

"No need, thank you." Julia Land responded politely.

From the way Madame Bell spoke to Chloe Sullivan, Julia Land could clearly feel that Madame Bell truly cared for Chloe Sullivan.

Madame Bell held a portrait sketch the size of an A4 paper and showed it to Julia Land, "Does it look like me? Chloe drew this."

Chloe Sullivan looked up smilingly and asked, "Mrs. Moore, have you ever learned to paint?"

Not knowing is no reason for random criticism and embarrassment.

"No." Julia Land shrugged nonchalantly, "I never had the chance to learn painting, but since Madame Bell asked, I will answer honestly, this drawing... actually isn’t very good."

Both Chloe Sullivan and Madame Bell were speechless.

Madame Bell wasn’t offended, but instead asked smilingly, "Oh, in what way is it not very good?"

Madame Bell had learned painting from a young age and could obviously tell the flaws in a painting.

Julia Land looked carefully at the portrait in Madame Bell’s hand, pondering for a moment, "Miss Sullivan’s portrait actually resembles Madame Bell, but it lacks emotional expression. For instance, the facial expression looks a bit stiff, and the eyes appear somewhat lifeless."

Chloe Sullivan stopped peeling the apple.

A surge of anger rose within her.

Madame Bell chuckled lightly, "It’s a pity you didn’t learn painting, Mrs. Moore, you have a good sense of insight."

Chloe Sullivan also smiled, "Mrs. Moore is indeed remarkable," she said helplessly, "This drawing was quickly made just to amuse the children."

Julia Land smiled and did not reply. After delivering the gifts and sitting for a while, she bid her farewell and left the hospital.

Madame Bell watched Julia Land’s departing figure, turned her head, and chatted casually with Chloe Sullivan, "Mrs. Moore looks somewhat familiar."

Chloe Sullivan was still holding the fruit knife. Hearing Madame Bell saying that, her hand trembled, and she cut her finger, "Ah!"

She put down the knife, looking at her finger that quickly began to bleed.

"You child, how could you be so careless?" Madame Bell hastily pressed the call button for a nurse.

"Godmother, it’s just a minor injury." Riley Sullivan said in an appeasing smile.

The two children seeing their mother cut her finger also ran over to comfort Chloe Sullivan.

"Mommy, it doesn’t hurt, blowing air on it will help." Eleanor Thompson blew on Chloe Sullivan’s finger.

Madame Bell watched them—one mother, two children—with resignation yet amusement.

What a pity, if James Thompson hadn’t done it all for another woman, maybe Chloe Sullivan could have been really happy.

Before, Madame Bell had feared hurting Chloe Sullivan’s feelings and never asked who the woman was for whom James Thompson had done this.

Now that five years had passed, after the nurse came and helped Chloe Sullivan bandage her wound, she finally asked, "Chloe, about James Thompson..."

Before she could say more, the twins instantly looked up at her.

Madame Bell touched her forehead, remembering the children were still present, and refrained from continuing.

Chloe Sullivan knew what Madame Bell wanted to ask, but she wasn’t prepared to talk about it now.

What was most important at the moment was that Madame Bell had mentioned that Julia Land looked familiar.

She had to find a way to arrange a paternity test between Julia Land and Madame Bell.

Chloe Sullivan lowered her gaze, hiding the deep thoughts in her eyes.

Meanwhile, in the same hospital as Madame Bell was Eliza Quarter.

Eliza Quarter couldn’t stop crying; her left leg was ruined, and she would need to walk with a crutch from now on.

How could she possibly endure this?

"Grandma, it’s all because of Julia Land, she has brought such misfortune to our Quarter family." Eliza Quarter wailed, tears streaming incessantly.

Maya Chant endured the sound of Eliza’s wailing, scolded sharply, "Shut up. You were supposed to stay in Dunmore City, why did you come to Capital City? Not only did you come, but you also went and provoked James Thompson; you really are as dumb as a pig!"

Eliza Quarter paused for a moment, then began to cry even louder, "Grandma, why are you scolding me too? The Quarter family is in this mess because of Julia Land. I just went to scold her a bit, what’s wrong with that?"

Seeing that she remained deluded, Maya Chant felt a pain in her chest.

Just then, the door to the hospital room was pushed open.

A thin man walked in.

Noah Quarter had heard Eliza Quarter’s wailing from outside in the hallway.

"Noah is here," Maya Chant rubbed her forehead.

She despised Julia Land too but at least she still had her wits about her.

To deal with Julia Land, they must not let James Thompson become aware.

Noah Quarter looked at Eliza with an expressionless face, then turned to Maya Chant and said, "Grandma, I’m sorry; I’ll take Eliza back to Dunmore City tomorrow."

He had just encountered Julia Land downstairs at the hospital.
