Goodbye, Ex-husband! I’m Pregnant with Your Uncle’s Child! -
Chapter 183 Past Tense
Chapter 183: Chapter 183 Past Tense
Julia Land looked at James Thompson’s temples and blinked her sour eyes.
Once again, she said with a faint smile, "I can say it again, you and I are history."
"Julia Land and James Thompson are history."
No sooner had her words fallen.
James Thompson scooped her up in his arms.
The driver and Assistant Scott, who were seated in the car, were shocked.
Mrs. Moore and Mr. Thompson?
Young Master Moore wearing a green hat?
They wisely turned their heads to the other side.
They saw nothing.
James Thompson thrust Julia into his car, "Get out."
Those words were directed at the driver and the bodyguards in his car.
His car was very private.
The door closed.
The light inside the car came on.
"Little Pear, tell me if Christopher Moore is threatening you?"
Julia Land, suddenly embraced by James Thompson and brought into his car, remained composed. She adjusted her sitting position and leaned against the backrest with an air of languor, her legs crossed.
James Thompson waited for her to speak.
Julia lifted her eyelids, glanced at him, and looked away, "I haven’t been threatened."
James Thompson didn’t believe her words.
He leaned in closer, his hand propping on the back of the seat, trapping her in his embrace, "Tell the truth, it’s safe here."
Julia’s eyes dropped, no, she wouldn’t gamble with Dale’s life.
She had already witnessed Christopher’s madness.
"What I said is the truth."
James Thompson’s eyes were dark and deep as he stared at her.
Julia had been busy all day, attending banquets in the evening, drinking, and then hustling to the hospital. She wasn’t just tired, her head was also a bit dizzy.
James Thompson held Julia tightly, his lips close to her ear, asking with difficulty, "Little Pear, our... child?"
Thinking of her daughter who had been taken away by Christopher since she was young, Julia’s voice was husky, "She’s dead. Let me go. This also proves something, that we’re really not meant to be."
James Thompson’s heart clenched slightly, "Will you come back to me?"
Her fingers curled slightly as she rejected again, "I’ve told you, it’s too late."
She was firm in her resolve.
He saw her shake her head.
His forehead pressed against hers; he apologized lowly, "I’m sorry."
But the words ’I’m sorry’ were actually useless now.
His lips touched hers.
With the devotion of a believer.
Julia coldly pushed him away.
She raised her hand and slapped James Thompson.
A crisp slap echoed.
That slap had directly twisted James Thompson’s face.
His Adam’s apple rolled, his eyes darkened, and he turned his head unbelievingly to look at Julia.
Using the back of her hand, she wiped her red lips, the gesture appearing somewhat disdainful.
Her eyes reddened slightly, and she scoffed.
With soft fingertips, she poked his shoulder, "James Thompson, you’ve crossed the line, I’m now Mrs. Moore."
She opened the car door, got out, and walked back to her own car. She opened the door and sat in, "Drive."
The hand with which she had slapped him was still trembling.
She had hit him...
James Thompson touched the side of his face where he had been slapped, staring at the receding figure. He blinked his narrow eyes and a bitter smile appeared on his thin lips.
*
Julia Land returned to Moore Estate.
Mr. and Mrs. Moore were already waiting for her in the living room.
"Is Madame Bell doing alright?" Mrs. Moore asked.
"She’s out of danger. I’ll visit her at the hospital tomorrow." Julia Land took a sip of the tea passed to her by the butler, and set it down.
She waited for Mr. and Mrs. Moore to bring up the issue mentioned by Eliza Quarter that evening.
But neither Mr. nor Mrs. Moore did.
Mrs. Moore looked at her with empathy, "You’re very tired today, go take a bath and sleep."
Julia truly was exhausted and had no mood to discuss other matters. She accepted Mrs. Moore’s kindness, "Okay, Aunt Moore, Uncle Moore, good night."
*
Julia Land finished bathing and collapsed onto the soft bed.
She closed her eyes.
Her thoughts drifted into emptiness.
The ringtone of her phone sounded, and she lazily reached to the bedside table to pick up her phone.
She glanced at it and saw a video call request.
Julia stared fiercely at it.
It was Christopher Moore.
"Is there a problem?" Her words upon answering the call were extremely, extremely displeased.
Christopher Moore was imperturbable, his smile gentle and poised. He still wore James Thompson’s face, which only nauseated Julia even more.
Julia Land earnestly suggested, "Why don’t you go fix your face and become yourself again?"
Christopher Moore stretched out his long legs, "I quite like this face now, although it doesn’t look as good as mine, but it’s passable."
Julia Land sneered.
Creep.
She cursed silently.
Taking his time, Christopher Moore said, "You met James Thompson tonight, were you excited?"
"Of course I was excited."
Julia Land said indifferently.
She got out of bed barefoot, poured herself a glass of water, and drank several sips in quick succession before putting down the glass.
Julia Land asked methodically, "Have you been having someone follow me?"
Christopher Moore raised an eyebrow but didn’t answer the question. Instead, he brought up Dale, "I took Dale to kindergarten today."
He retracted his legs and mentioned something that stabbed right into Julia Land’s heart, "The parents’ section for Dale had been left blank."
Julia Land coldly swept her eyes towards Christopher Moore through the screen.
Christopher Moore paused for a few seconds, "Hmm? Are you angry?"
Julia Land didn’t respond.
She knew he was warning her.
Julia Land hung up the video call, expressionless.
Christopher Moore laughed to himself, "She has the same temper as Dale Land."
Today, he had taken Dale Land to the kindergarten. When she came back and found out that her pet duckling had disappeared, she was mad at him all evening and wouldn’t talk to him.
Such a little girl, able to stay mad and ignore him all evening, was indeed impressive.
The duckling had probably run off, which he hadn’t noticed. He planned to buy another one for her tomorrow.
Christopher Moore called the butler, "Butler Lin, bring a cup of warm milk up for the madam."
He was worried she would suffer from insomnia tonight.
Drinking milk helps promote sleep.
Butler Lin was somewhat surprised. It seemed that Young Master Moore and the madam truly had a good relationship.
"Yes."
Butler Lin had a maid bring the milk up to Julia Land.
When Julia Land heard it was Christopher Moore’s instruction, she coldly drank all the milk, handed the empty cup to the maid, and shut the door.
There was a meeting early tomorrow morning.
Julia Land forced herself to fall asleep.
That night, while sleeping, she had a nightmare in which Dale kept calling for mommy, and then disappeared.
Julia Land woke up, covered in a cold sweat.
*
At eight in the morning.
Assistant Scott walked beside Julia Land, one reporting on the schedule and the other listening.
They both headed to the meeting room.
"Help me buy a gift; I need to visit Madame Bell at the hospital this afternoon."
"Yes."
The head of the relevant department was already waiting inside the meeting room; they turned their heads when they heard the sound of high heels entering.
Julia Land’s first significant act as the head of the Moore Group was to prepare for the acquisition of Silicon Express.
"Good morning, chairman."
"Good morning, everyone."
Julia Land scanned the department heads in the meeting room and got straight to the point during the meeting, "I am not at all satisfied with the report on Silicon Express that I have seen so far."
Julia Land asked, "Who is Shan Yujie from the data analysis department?"
The managers held their breath; a new official burns three fires, and it was still unknown whether this Moore Family daughter-in-law truly had the ability to manage the Moore Group.
"It’s me. I believe that the current investigation documents are already very complete," Shan Yujie said, his figure a bit chubby and his face plump.
While he looked easy-going, it was quite the opposite, and he was quite difficult to deal with.
He thought Julia Land was picking on him on purpose.
But he was not at all afraid of Julia Land; he was complacent.
He was related by marriage to Mrs. Moore.
Julia Land tilted her head slightly as Assistant Scott leaned in and whispered, "Shan Yujie, a relative of Mrs. Moore’s side."
Julia Land suddenly understood why he was so bold.
She curled her lips, "You call this a thorough investigation? You haven’t thoroughly investigated their company’s finances, business, or operational status. If you’re not capable, then let someone else do it, you waste."
Shan Yujie’s face turned the color of liver, this woman actually dared to call him a waste in front of so many people!
"Julia Land! Don’t go too far, the Moore Family will kick you out one day."
Julia Land calmly continued with the next meeting topic.
Completely ignored, Shan Yujie furiously left the meeting room, "Just wait and see."
After the meeting ended, Julia Land fired Shan Yujie directly.
Assistant Scott reminded her, "Shan Yujie’s mother is a tough one to deal with."
Julia Land leaned back in her chair and sized up Michael Scott.
Michael Scott was the assistant provided to her by Christopher Moore.
She smirked, the corners of her mouth turning cold, "Tough to deal with, isn’t that what Assistant Scott is for? Do I really need to deal with this myself?"
"...." Assistant Scott admitted his mistake, "Understood."
Julia Land was actually making an example of Shan Yujie.
The Moore Group needed new blood.
When Shan Yujie received the personnel notice of his dismissal, he pulled out his chair, swept the documents from his desk to the floor, and left the Moore Group in a rage, quickly calling his own mother to complain.
