Chapter 182 What Did You Say?
Chapter 182: Chapter 182 What Did You Say?
Although Julia seemed familiar, Connor only muttered to himself briefly.
His current concern was all about Madame Bell.
Connor asked Chloe with confusion, "Why did you attend the banquet tonight?"
Madame Bell hadn’t mentioned it to him.
Madame Bell usually disliked attending banquets.
With reddened eyes, Chloe apologized, "I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I was the one who asked my godmother to attend this banquet."
Seeing her uneasy, Connor didn’t have the heart to blame her, "Luckily, nothing serious happened this time. Little Chloe, don’t blame yourself. You must be tired today too, go back and rest well."
"I want to stay here with my godmother."
"I’ll be here, don’t worry. You go back."
With Connor there, it wouldn’t be convenient for Chloe.
Connor had Maxwell take Chloe back.
"Alright, I’ll take Little Chloe back first."
After Maxwell and Chloe left the hospital, Chloe wept as soon as she got into the car.
Maxwell offered her tissues helplessly, wiping her tears, "Don’t cry, your uncle and aunt won’t blame you."
Who could have predicted that Madame Bell would suddenly fall ill?
"If I hadn’t wanted to catch a glimpse of Julia, my godmother wouldn’t have..." Chloe cried bitterly, her speech broken, "It’s all my fault."
To distract her and stop her tears, Maxwell changed the subject, "Do you know Mrs. Moore?"
He had seen the news about Moore Group’s sudden change of chairman, and tonight at the hospital he recognized Julia.
He couldn’t fathom why the Moore Group dared to let a daughter-in-law take over the company.
Chloe tensed up when she heard Maxwell’s question, then looking out the window, she spoke with a sense of loss, "Of course I know her."
She turned her gaze toward Maxwell and forced a bitter smile, "James Thompson had me committed to a mental hospital for the sake of a woman, years ago."
Maxwell was aware of the incident and was startled, "That woman, is she now Mrs. Moore?"
What was the deal with James Thompson and Christopher Moore?
Maxwell couldn’t understand how Mrs. Moore could have such great charm.
In his mind, Julia didn’t leave a good impression.
This woman must have had some shrewd tactics.
"Arthur, you mustn’t tell my godmother about this," Chloe instructed, "I don’t want her to worry about me."
"Mhm, alright."
Chloe finally stopped crying, and Maxwell let out a sigh of relief.
"Wipe your tears."
"Thank you," Chloe said with a tear-stained red face, managing a smile.
Maxwell truly felt Chloe didn’t deserve this.
James Thompson neither acknowledged her nor the child, that was one thing, but to also commit a perfectly fine woman to such a place showed how ruthless he was.
"You should live a good life from here on."
"Forget about James Thompson."
Chloe smiled, "Yeah, I know."

At the Thompson Family home.
Jasper brought Eliza to the Thompson Family.
The butler went upstairs to call the second mistress.
Maya Chant hadn’t had an easy time these past years since Leah Thompson constantly came to her with complaints. In the past few years, the second mistress cared greatly for her appearance, maintaining herself like a woman in her forties.
Now, there were two more wrinkles on her forehead.
She followed the butler downstairs, "Butler Huang, did you say that Jasper brought Eliza here, while she was unconscious?"
"Yes."
Butler Huang didn’t know exactly what had happened.
Jasper specifically asked to see the second mistress, which surely meant something had happened on the young master’s side.
Maya’s heart skipped a beat. She walked out of the elevator with a smile.
Upon reaching the living room and seeing Eliza lying on the sofa, she asked, "Assistant Winters, what happened?"
Jasper, calm and respectful, replied, "Eliza offended the BOSS. One of her legs is now disabled, but the other is fine. Second mistress, please take good care of Eliza and speak to her about life’s principles."
Maya’s face fell on the spot.
What did he mean by one leg being useless?
He spoke as if it was nothing.
Having delivered the message, Jasper left the Thompson home promptly.
Maya hurriedly had the butler call the family doctor.
What exactly had happened could only be known once Eliza woke up.
Maya was also holding back her anger, anger directed at James Thompson for such outrageous behavior.

Elsewhere, after leaving the hospital, Julia, who had drunk alcohol although not to the point of drunkenness, felt a little dizzy.
She sat in her car, leaning back in the seat to rest.
"Madam, there’s a car following us," the driver said, checking the rearview mirror again to confirm the vehicle was indeed tailing them.
Assistant Scott turned to look behind, his memory serving him well, recognizing the car James Thompson had ridden in that evening, "It’s Mr. Thompson’s car."
Silence filled the car for a moment.
Julia opened her eyes, rubbing her sore eyes. Some matters, she realized, should no longer be avoided.
"Pull over to the side of the road," Julia said softly.
She opened the door and stepped out of the car, telling Assistant Scott to wait in the car.
The car behind them also slowly came to a halt.
The rear door opened, and James Thompson got out.
Their gazes met.
James bent slightly at the waist to reach into the car for a jacket. He draped the jacket over his arm and approached Julia.
He stood in front of Julia, about to place the jacket on her shoulders.
"No need, thank you," Julia looked up at him with a smile, "James, it’s been years, and the truth is, a lot has changed."
"I’m now Mrs. Moore; you and I are part of the past."
Her words were direct and hurtful.
Suddenly, James pinched Julia’s chin, his large hand encircling her waist, his voice bearing a threat, "What did you say?"
