Goodbye, Ex-husband! I’m Pregnant with Your Uncle’s Child! -
Chapter 181 Blinding
Chapter 181: Chapter 181 Blinding
Julia Land turned her head away, looking elsewhere.
She no longer looked at James Thompson.
James Thompson tugged at his lips, the color in his eyes turning colder.
The moment the lights in the banquet hall brightened, Julia Land pursed her red lips, trying hard to pull her hand away.
In the instant the light came on, James Thompson still let go of Julia Land’s hand.
He still didn’t want to force her this way.
He sat up straight, the scent of her perfume fading almost imperceptibly from the tip of his nose.
The hand that had just been clutching Julia Land’s clenched into a fist, as if to hold onto the feeling of holding her small hand.
A whole five years had passed.
He missed her, missed her until his temples turned gray.
Julia Land was momentarily stunned.
The warmth on her hand had already left.
Matthew Moore came over with a glass of wine to call Julia Land; he wanted to introduce her to people in the circle.
Normally, introducing Julia Land and toasting to acquaintances was something Christopher Moore should have done.
Julia Land carried her wine glass and left with Uncle Moore.
Chloe Sullivan laughed crazily in her heart. With a shallow smile, she said, "I really didn’t expect Julia Land to have been married for five years already. We didn’t even get to drink their wedding toast, what a pity."
"Do you know Julia?" Mrs. Moore smiled, "Young people sometimes like to keep a low profile."
"I’m from Dunmore City, same as Julia Land, and we know each other," Chloe Sullivan smiled, without saying much more.
The Moores had actually chatted with Julia Land last night, roughly asking about her family.
They didn’t really understand Julia Land’s past. Christopher had not given them a chance to ask clearly and just told them that his daughter-in-law had returned home to help manage the company.
The Moores were quite open-minded; after being angered by their son for so many years, suddenly having a daughter-in-law helped them to see things differently.
Chloe Lewis raised an eyebrow, "I can see it. Mrs. Moore is very satisfied with Mrs. Moore."
Julia Land seemed to be a woman with a deep mind.
"Of course, Julia is good, it’s our son Christopher who’s not worthy of her," Mrs. Moore humbly said.
Chloe Lewis smiled with a meaningful look.
James Thompson held a teacup, his gaze lowered, his face cold.
Chloe Lewis glanced at James Thompson, paused, and lifting her glass, said, "James Thompson, have a drink."
James Thompson replied indifferently, "Sorry, I’m in poor health and can’t drink."
Chloe Lewis shrugged her shoulders, not insisting.
Listening to them discussing the marriage of Julia Land and Christopher Moore, he couldn’t control the resentment in his heart.
He didn’t know how much longer he could control himself.
"Oh, I’m sorry." A server holding a tray of drinks bumped into the table where Julia Land was giving a toast.
When the server looked up, it turned out to be Eliza Quarter.
Seeing Julia Land, she exclaimed in surprise, "Sister-in-law, what are you doing here?"
Eliza Quarter’s call of "sister-in-law" was loud enough for anyone not deaf to hear.
Everyone turned to look at Julia Land.
Then at the server.
The Moore family’s daughter-in-law was a divorced woman?
But what era was it now? Remarriage after divorce was no big deal, as long as the Moore family didn’t mind.
Julia Land’s expression did not change; she hooked the corner of her mouth, "Turns out it’s you. Don’t just recognize anyone as your sister-in-law; at most, I could only be considered an ex-sister-in-law."
She didn’t think about denying it.
Because there was absolutely no need to hide it.
However, there was no need for her to waste time with Eliza Quarter at tonight’s banquet.
Holding her wine, she continued to speak with a smile to the important guest she was just about to greet, "Uncle Lee, a toast to you."
Everyone attending today’s banquet was a bigwig who had weathered great storms. Seeing that the host didn’t have much reaction, they naturally wouldn’t have much reaction either.
Chairman Lee smiled and clinked glasses with Julia Land, "Although I missed the chance to celebrate your marriage with Christopher, now Uncle Lee would like to offer his congratulations."
"Thank you," Julia Land smiled.
Eliza Quarter hadn’t expected everyone to react this way; she felt like a jumping clown.
Why was it like this?
Wasn’t Julia Land supposed to be embarrassed?
Perhaps she didn’t quite understand who tonight’s dinner guests were.
The guests present were important figures in each of their families; none of them were mentally incapacitated.
In her heart, Chloe Sullivan scorned Eliza Quarter; utterly useless, making such a fuss upon seeing Julia Land at the banquet.
Suffocating.
James Thompson got up unhurriedly; he lifted his eyes and glanced at the blinding wedding photo on the screen.
Just when everyone thought James Thompson was about to leave the banquet, they were surprised to see him approach Matthew Moore, "Uncle Moore, sorry, something came up, I must leave now."
He lifted his chin in the direction of Eliza Quarter and said indifferently, "She’s the granddaughter of the second wife, not very sensible. I’ll take her away."
He looked at Julia Land, his eyes deep, "Miss Land, let’s chat when you have time."
He wouldn’t call her Mrs. Moore.
Eliza Quarter hadn’t expected James Thompson to come over.
Julia Land had remarried; it could be considered a blow to a man’s pride, couldn’t it?
What’s going on with him?
He’s actually stepping out to clear the air for Julia Land even now!
Eliza Quarter grew frightened. She started to exclaim, "Mr. Thompson, you for..."
Before she could finish the sentence ’suppressing the Quarter Family for the sake of Julia Land,’ Jasper Winters had already knocked Eliza Quarter unconscious.
He smiled as he supported Eliza Quarter, following James Thompson out of the banquet hall.
Julia Land’s heart trembled slightly, yet she composed herself and continued accompanying Matthew Moore to meet the important guests.
After walking out of the banquet hall, James Thompson got into the car and coldly ordered, "Break Eliza Quarter’s right leg, send her to the second lady, and if there’s a next time, break the left leg."
Jasper Winters acknowledged the order.
Over the past few years, James Thompson had barely survived several life-threatening treatments, bargaining with the Grim Reaper for time to live – all to find Julia Land.
His methods had become more cruel than before.
Now, whenever Jasper Winters thought of Julia Land, it gave him a headache, unsure whether the boss would choose to let go or to forcefully take her back.
Christopher Moore’s moves were always unpredictable.
The banquet continued past seven o’clock.
Though Assistant Scott helped Julia Land fend off many drinks, she still consumed a lot.
She went to the restroom and saw Madame Bell clutching her chest, leaning against the wall.
"Madame, are you alright?" Julia Land quickly went over to support Madame Bell.
Seeing her pale face, she hurriedly called for someone to come over.
Julia Land didn’t know what illness Madame Bell had.
Chloe Sullivan came looking for Madame Bell and saw Julia Land supporting her. Her face changed subtly as she quickly walked over, pushing Julia Land aside and taking hold of Madame Bell.
"Godmother, is it your heart disease acting up?"
Julia Land, suddenly pushed away, staggered a few steps but managed to stabilize herself in time.
She didn’t bother to take issue with Chloe Sullivan pushing her away. It was vital that Madame Bell didn’t encounter any trouble at this event.
Chloe Sullivan helped Madame Bell sit down and hurriedly took out reserve pills prescribed by a doctor for Madame Bell to take.
As she was preparing to call for help,
Julia Land spoke up, "I’ve already called someone."
No sooner had she finished speaking than Assistant Scott arrived with a doctor.
Tonight, the Moore Family had cautiously invited a family doctor to the hotel, and it turned out to be necessary.
"Is it a heart attack? Have you called an ambulance?" the doctor asked after administering first aid to Madame Bell.
"It’s been called," Julia Land said.
Before long,
the ambulance arrived, and Julia Land, as one of the hosts of the evening, naturally needed to follow and check on the situation.
It was a matter of protocol.
However, what Julia Land didn’t expect was that just as she was about to follow the ambulance, Chloe Sullivan blocked her, saying, "Mrs. Moore, you should take a private car."
Julia Land raised her eyebrows, speechless.
The ambulance drove off, and the driver brought the car around, stopping as Assistant Scott opened the door.
Julia Land sat in the car.
She sent a message to Mrs. Moore and the others, asking them to take care of the wrap-up for the banquet.
[Julia, what’s the situation with Madame Bell? Call me back.]
[Okay.]
In the hospital.
Madame Bell had been rescued in time and was no longer in life-threatening danger.
Connor Bell, who was notified by Chloe Sullivan and rushed over, let out a sigh of relief upon hearing the doctor say there was no longer any danger to her life.
Just then, a man in his thirties hurried in, "Uncle, how is aunt doing?"
"Arthur, godmother is out of danger," Chloe Sullivan replied.
Maxwell Bell looked at Chloe Sullivan, "That’s good to hear."
Maxwell Bell was currently managing the Bell Clan.
Initially, Connor Bell was in charge, but he had been busy these last few years accompanying Madame Bell abroad for treatment, so the knowledgeable Maxwell Bell had been left to manage the company.
During her studies on the island, Julia Land had also read about the current manager of the huge Bell Corporation.
She recognized Maxwell Bell, who now managed the Bell Clan.
Seeing that there was nothing more for her to do here, she decided to leave and return the next day to check on Madame Bell.
She apologized to Connor Bell, "Mr. Bell, hello. I’m the daughter-in-law of the Moore Family. I sincerely regret that Madame Bell fell ill during the banquet."
It was then that Connor Bell noticed the woman in the blue gown and also knew it wasn’t right to make a scene, "I should be the one to apologize."
A joyous banquet was set up by others, but it could easily become a downer because of Madame Bell’s sudden illness.
Julia Land said goodbye to Mr. Bell and Maxwell Bell, then left the hospital.
As soon as Julia Land had left,
Connor Bell muttered to himself in confusion.
Strange, why does Mrs. Moore seem so familiar, as though I’ve seen her somewhere before?
