Chapter 179: Chapter 179 Mrs. Moore

Eliza Quarter took the earliest flight to Capital City this morning.

She got off the plane, hailed a taxi, and went straight to Moore Group.

The security stopped her and wouldn’t let her in.

Eliza bit her teeth in frustration and decided to seek help from Chloe Sullivan.

The previous night, late into the evening, Chloe had forwarded her news of Julia Land’s appointment as Chairwoman of Moore Group.

The news infuriated Eliza.

Her current living conditions were a far cry from her past life.

In the past, she was the privileged daughter of the Quarter Family, mostly pampered and indulged by others.

Now, she couldn’t even enter a boutique shop, as she had not enough money to purchase anything.

Eliza looked around her current living quarters, a room with simple decor and not much space.

The Quarter Family used to be a top-tier family in Dunmore City, but they had now fallen to less than a third-rate family.

And all of this was due to Julia Land; James Thompson had been slowly boiling the frog, constantly bearing down on Quarter Group for Julia’s sake.

Thinking of how her brother had to nod and bow to accompany others for drinks and business talks, the more Eliza thought about it, the more enraged she became.

That woman, Julia, was a disaster! Why should such a scourge become a part of the Moore family?

A shameless and promiscuous wretch!!!

The great disparity in lifestyle over the past few years had filled Eliza with resentment and hate.

Chloe Sullivan hadn’t slept well last night and was woken up early by a phone call, understandably in a bad mood.

But as soon as she heard it was Eliza’s voice, she put aside her ill temper and asked, "Eliza, is there something you need?"

"Chloe, I’m right at your doorstep now."

"What?" Chloe sat up quickly, suddenly awake, and got out of bed, "Why have you suddenly come to Capital City? Wait a moment, I’ll have the maid open the door."

She wrapped herself in a garment and walked out of the bedroom.

Seeing that her mistress was not yet awake, the maid naturally did not let Eliza in.

That’s why Eliza had decided to call Chloe.

When the maid opened the door, Eliza stepped into the living room and said to Chloe, "Chloe, I want to see Julia Land. Do you have any way to arrange it?"

Chloe asked the maid to pour Eliza a glass of milk and then she softly inquired, "What do you want her for? Don’t do anything foolish."

"Don’t worry, I won’t do anything foolish. I just want her to let our Quarter Family go and stop James Thompson from always targeting us."

If it were not for Maya Chant seeking Elder Thompson’s help, the Quarter Family would probably be unable to maintain even a small company by now.

"Chloe, please help me. Can you?"

Eliza looked at Chloe with a pitiful gaze.

Chloe pondered for a moment, speaking bitterly, "Eliza, I would like to help you, but look at my current situation. The Sullivan Family isn’t in much better a state than the Quarter Family, and I was even sent to a mental institution back then."

Eliza bit her lip with a hint of disappointment. If all else failed, she would just wait outside Moore Group for Julia Land.

Seeing her disappointment, Chloe said, "Though I can’t help you much, I do know that the Moore family is hosting a banquet at the Spey Hotel tonight. They’re planning to introduce Julia to everyone in their circle."

Eliza’s eyes suddenly lit up. She knew what she had to do, "Chloe, thank you, I have to go now."

Chloe watched Eliza leave and smiled tenderly.

Since she was already awake, she decided not to go back to sleep.

Chloe went back to her room and took a faded black-and-white photo from her desk, unrecognizable in its details, and returned it to the photo album.

The black-and-white photograph was soaked in water for a while, then rubbed, and the woman in uniform had her features completely obliterated.

"Godmother, I will come to see you at noon; I am not sure which gown to select."

Chloe called Madame Bell.

**

Julia Land had been heads down toiling in Moore Group from morning until the afternoon.

At noon, Mrs. Moore instructed the housekeeper to deliver a nutritious lunch to Julia.

Assistant Scott reminded Julia of the banquet that night.

Julia rubbed her brow, "Okay, I know."

Moore Group had been on a decline in recent years; Christopher Moore paid little attention to the group, while his uncle ran the company with a conservative approach, leading to weaker competitiveness.

"Is the gown ready?"

"The lady has already prepared one for you."

Julia nodded as she closed her laptop and stood up, "Let’s go."

The simple yet elegant blue gown adorned Julia, lending her an air of cool, graceful elegance.

Assistant Scott, dressed in a khaki suit, had hired a professional makeup team to take care of Julia’s makeup.

At six o’clock, Julia Land headed to the hotel.

It was the first time Julia Land had seen James Thompson in five years.

The man’s temples were flecked with white, and he, at thirty, looked mature and composed; the features that once appeared careless and lazy now seemed sharp and fierce.

He gazed into Julia Land’s eyes with the same deep affection as always.

Julia Land looked at James Thompson and felt as though she had weathered countless hardships.

She thought of that madman, Christopher Moore, and of the daughter still in the hands of the lunatic.

Julia Land gathered her thoughts and greeted him with a smile, like meeting an old friend, "Thank you, Mr. Thompson, for coming to the banquet tonight. Please come inside."

There were other guests continuously arriving behind James Thompson.

He didn’t want to put Julia Land in a difficult position and, with a hoarse voice, simply "hmm" in agreement and walked into the banquet hall.

Jasper Winters came tonight with the BOSS, he smiled at Julia Land and then hurriedly followed James Thompson into the banquet hall.

Chloe Lewis got out of the car, walked over, and glanced at Julia Land, then towards James Thompson, who had already entered the banquet hall; she genuinely thought Julia Land’s private life was a mess.

"Miss Land, hello, should I call you Mrs. Moore? Or continue with Miss Land?"

Julia Land’s smile was proper, "Director Lewis, you can call me Mrs. Moore."

Chloe Lewis smiled lightly and nodded, striding into the banquet hall.

Julia Land waited until the key figures from the important families had arrived before she prepared to enter the banquet hall.

"Chairman, Madame Bell has arrived."

This was indeed a rare occurrence.

The Bell couple hardly ever attended banquets, especially Madame Bell, who seldom went out to socialize with ladies from the circle due to her poor health.

Following Madame Bell out of the car was Chloe Sullivan.

Chloe Sullivan intimately linked arms with Madame Bell as the two approached Julia Land.

Julia Land smiled, "Madame, hello."

Madame Bell’s eyes and brows tenderly smiled, "Mrs. Moore, hello."

Chloe Sullivan curled her lips in greeting, "Mrs. Moore, long time no see."

Julia Land raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Miss Sullivan, long time no see. Both of you, please come inside."

Chloe Sullivan smiled and walked into the banquet hall with Madame Bell.

Julia Land turned to Assistant Scott, "Let’s go, I’ll go find Aunt Moore first."

Mrs. Moore was waiting for Julia Land in the lounge, and they were going to appear in the banquet hall together later.

There was seating arranged for the banquet.

Which family would sit at each table had already been predetermined.

There were two main tables, with the remainder not being main tables.

The Thompson, Lewis, Moore, and Bell families were all at the same main table.

The other main table was occupied by families not from Capital City.

After Madame Bell sat down, upon seeing James Thompson, she remarked indifferently, "It’s quite rare for James Thompson to come tonight."

James Thompson said nothing with detached indifference.

Years ago, after Madame Bell took Chloe Sullivan from the mental hospital, she went to demand an explanation from James Thompson.

James Thompson had only given Madame Bell a cold response, "You’re meddling too much."

His words had angered Madame Bell.

The incident that happened at the penthouse was unknown to the other families.

Madame Bell also didn’t know the specifics of what occurred that year; she only knew that James Thompson had sent Chloe Sullivan to the mental hospital for a woman’s sake.

And since Chloe Sullivan never spoke much about that woman, Madame Bell, fearing to upset Chloe, never asked.

Madame Bell quietly suggested, "The twins have always longed for your company. No matter what, children are innocent."

Madame Bell had attended several kindergarten parent-teacher meetings for the twins and seeing that other children were always accompanied by both parents, she felt sorry for the twins who had never seen their father attend.

Chloe Sullivan gently tugged at Madame Bell, shaking her head to prevent her from mentioning the twins.

James Thompson scoffed coldly, "I’ve already said, the twins are not my children."

Madame Bell furrowed her brows.

Actually, within the circle, no one truly believed what James Thompson said; they just thought he didn’t want to acknowledge the twins.

If they weren’t his children, why would Elder Thompson still gift the Thompson Family shares to the twins?

Whether it was the Thompson Family or Christopher Moore, they all kept the true origin of the twins confidential.

And Chloe Sullivan was smart; she wouldn’t possibly publicize the twins’ complex lineage.

This has led everyone to presume that James Thompson simply didn’t want to acknowledge the twins.
