Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Carry Away

Capital City, Private Hospital.

James Thompson sat in a wheelchair, coldly looking at Assistant Hunter beside Cody Thompson.

Assistant Hunter awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth. He didn’t want to come either, but had no choice—the Thompson Group needed people.

He continued, using reason, "Mr. Thompson, the chairman truly has fallen ill. The Thompson Group needs you to come back and manage things."

"He has fallen ill? That’s rare," James scoffed.

Assistant Hunter pretended not to hear this unfilial remark.

James tersely said, "I won’t go; he’s so fond of the twins, let them manage the company."

Assistant Hunter felt like wiping his sweat.

How ridiculous—a child not yet a year old managing a company!

Jasper Winters saw Assistant Hunter out. The two men probed each other for information.

After Jasper sent Assistant Hunter away, he returned to the ward, "Our people haven’t found any trace of Miss Land today, and there’s another matter. Trevor Sullivan is waiting outside wanting to see you."

No sign of Julia Land.

James’s mood worsened, "Tell Trevor Sullivan to get lost. Chloe Sullivan is well-placed in the psychiatric hospital; she’s made a lot of friends there. It’s a suitable place for her."

"Yes."

Jasper left the room and went down to the hospital lobby to relay James’s words to Trevor.

Trevor tiredly rubbed his forehead.

"Mr. Sullivan, this time your Sullivan family has really crossed the line."

Over the past few months, James had relentlessly taken revenge on both the Quarter family’s and Sullivan family’s assets.

James’s series of retaliatory actions had caught the attention of relevant government departments.

With industries involving the Quarter Group and Strong Health implicated, James’s disregard for the losses dealt a heavy blow. An immediate surge in unemployed workers followed, leading government departments to talk to James.

James could only stop for the moment, giving the Quarter and Sullivan families a break.

At that moment, inside the psychiatric hospital.

Chloe Sullivan was comforted by a lady in lavish clothes, who softly frowned, "Child, we’ve come late; you’ve suffered during this time."

Chloe had been tormented by psychiatric patients and forcibly medicated by doctors, dazing her mind.

James really was ruthless.

"How dare the Thompsons do this to you, locking up a sane person in a psychiatric hospital! I’ll have your Uncle Connor speak to the Thompsons. After such an incident, why didn’t you call me?"

The lady embracing Chloe was Madame Bell, Connor Bell’s wife; she was genuinely concerned for Chloe, showing worry on her face.

Madame Bell was in poor health and went abroad for treatment every year.

Three years ago, in her urgency to confirm if her daughter had been found, she went without company and collapsed on the roadside due to a heart condition. Chloe had saved her life.

Chloe spoke softly, looking frail, "Auntie Bell, you are unwell yourself; I didn’t want to trouble you."

Connor looked at Chloe; she was considerate.

"Silly child! Come, go home with Auntie Bell."

Madame Bell looked irritably at her husband, "It’s all your fault; I already told you to look after Chloe at the Thompsons."

"Yes, yes, all my fault. This isn’t the place to talk; let’s go home and have the family doctor check Chloe."

Chloe lowered her eyes, narrowing them slightly.

The Bell couple intended to take Chloe away; the doctor in charge of keeping an eye on Chloe tried to stop them but was subdued by the Bell family’s bodyguard.

While the Bell couple wasn’t paying attention, Chloe cast a cold glare at the doctor who had always pressed her down to medicate her.

One day... she would make this doctor experience what it was like to be forcibly medicated.

"Chloe, come, go home with Auntie Bell, and leave this dreadful place."

Chloe held Madame Bell’s hand and walked out of the psychiatric hospital, reassured.

She stood on the steps, squinting her eyes and savoring the taste of freedom.

When James Thompson received the news that Chloe had been taken away by the Bell couple, he frowned, "Since when did Chloe know the Bells?"

Jasper reported the information he had gathered to James, "Apparently, Chloe once saved Madame Bell."

Miss Sullivan was indeed lucky.

The Bell couple had generally refrained from attending various banquets, as their two-year-old daughter had disappeared during one such event, leading them to resist participating in banquets.

After nine months of pregnancy, the time had come for the fruit to drop from the tree.

Julia Land had given birth to Dale Land during March as spring began.

She woke up, smelling the disinfectant, feeling a lingering pain below.

She had given birth naturally, laboring for a full day and night.

"Awake now, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"

Christopher Moore, who had been waiting outside the delivery room the entire time, looked visibly exhausted.

Julia Land was not moved by his presence; she rasped, "Where is my daughter?"

"You must be hungry by now, I’ll have some food brought over," Moore rubbed his temples and made a call.

After he had hung up,

"Moore, did you not hear what I just asked? Where is my daughter? Moore, answer me!"

Julia Land stared intensely at the man, feeling extremely uneasy, afraid that he might harm her daughter.

"I’m deaf in my left ear; it’s normal for me not to hear well." Moore poured some water and fed it to Julia Land.

Julia, parched, would not deny herself a drink.

After quenching her thirst, she inquired again about Dale’s whereabouts.

Dale was a name Julia had chosen for her daughter.

Moore pulled his chair closer to the bed, sat down, and changed the topic, "Do you know why you were kidnapped by the organ trafficking ring last year? It’s because Noah Quarter was collaborating with me."

Julia’s fingers tightened around the bedsheets till they whitened.

"Noah Quarter was assigned to distract your bodyguard. He then attempted to play the hero to save you; unfortunately, he saved the damsel, but you weren’t touched enough to give yourself to him."

"What exactly are you trying to say?" Julia asked coldly.

Moore smiled, "Do you know who ordered the shooting regardless of your safety? It was Cody Thompson. He would rather have you and your unborn child die than risk James Thompson getting killed by me while trying to save you."

Julia knew that Moore was trying to sow discord.

She deliberately responded coolly, "So what? It is human nature; I am no saint, and I despise Cody Thompson. But if one day, my daughter had to risk her life to save a man, I would kill that man first without hesitation."

"Still, no matter what, I will never forgive Cody Thompson. From now on, Dale will carry the Land surname, completely unrelated to the Thompson Family."

Just as she finished speaking,

Moore cracked a smile, "Julia Land, you always manage to be so rational."

"I want to see Dale."

Julia just wanted her daughter.

"Once you have recovered from childbirth, you will be taught different courses on how to manage a large company."

Moore spoke gently, "If you want to see Dale again, study well. Afterward, you can return to manage the Moore Group as Mrs. Moore, under the guise of being the Moore family’s daughter-in-law."

"That’s impossible!" Julia had not anticipated Moore harboring such sinister intentions.

"I know what you’re worried about. We won’t truly get a marriage certificate; you’re just going to manage the Moore Group under the identity of a Moore daughter-in-law," Moore said with a warm smile, "I’ll take good care of Dale."

Julia stared straight at Moore, "Are you using Dale to threaten me?"

"Yes, you can think of it that way. Moreover, you must not disclose our conversation today to James Thompson. If he finds out you’re being forced to become a Moore daughter-in-law for Dale’s sake, I would be very angry, and when I’m angry, Dale might suffer."

Right now, Julia just wanted to slap Moore.

Thinking so, she acted on it.

She propped herself up, raised her hand, and struck Moore’s face.

Moore didn’t dodge, allowing her to hit his left cheek before offering his right cheek, "Here, hit the other side."

Without hesitation, Julia slapped his other cheek. After venting her anger, she lay back down, grinding her teeth.

"I agree, but when will you let me see Dale? How do I know if my daughter is doing well?"

"Don’t worry, I will allow you to video call her once a month. I’ll have Dale brought over so you can spend time with her this month."

Julia now loathed Moore and bore a grudge against the Thompson Family.

A month’s time.

For a new mother, her time spent with her daughter was painfully brief.

Moore, knowing his position, chose not to appear and disturb their mother-daughter bonding.

On the last day of Julia’s confinement,

Moore arrived to take Dale away.
