Chapter 170 Hundred Days Feast 2
Chapter 170: Chapter 170 Hundred Days Feast 2
The woman sitting next to Eliza Quarter was dressed in a tailored suit and trousers, with wheat-colored skin—the woman was Chloe Lewis.
Chloe Lewis raised an eyebrow, "Eliza, are they really going to announce the good news today?"
She hadn’t prepared a gift yet.
"Yes, my mom already told me in advance. Look there, Mr. Thompson and Miss Sullivan are already standing together welcoming honored guests."
After saying that, Eliza proudly turned to Julia Land, wanting to see her reaction.
Unfortunately, Julia was talking quietly with Sophia Hart, ignoring her completely.
Eliza felt like she was acting in a one-woman show.
Annoyed and slightly embarrassed, Eliza blurted out, "Julia, you’re just a mistress. Don’t you feel ashamed to be at an event like this today?"
Chloe frowned as she looked at Julia, her gaze indifferent. Some people always like taking shortcuts.
Her parents once argued over a mistress, so Chloe wasn’t too fond of mistresses.
However, as a guest today, she wouldn’t knowingly make things difficult for others.
A few high-society ladies’ gazes fell on Julia, their looks a mix of derision and scrutiny.
This woman’s dress and jewelry weren’t cheap, turns out she’s just a man’s mistress.
Strange, why would the Thompson Family invite a mistress to an event like this?
Julia turned her head and glanced at Eliza, speechless. Why did everyone think she was a mistress, did she have a face that said ’mistress’?
"I’m not a mistress, Miss Quarter. Believe it or not, I can call the police right now and sue you for defamation," Julia sneered.
Sophia Hart wanted to speak up for Julia but was stopped by the grip on her wrist.
Julia shook her head at Sophia Hart.
Whoever makes a scene at this kind of event only embarrasses themselves.
Eliza scoffed quietly, her voice full of mockery, "Clearly you are, but won’t admit it. It’s truly shameful. Let’s not talk about it."
Julia took Sophia’s hand, ready to move to another area to rest. "Let’s go somewhere else. The breath here stinks, disgusting."
Sophia Hart glanced at Eliza, then laughed, "Yes, let’s go. It really stinks."
Eliza knew that it wasn’t appropriate to cause a scene today. She’d only wanted to offend Julia momentarily, but now that Julia had walked away, she could only hold back her anger.
Some gossip-loving ladies, unafraid of offending anyone, quietly asked Eliza, "Who is she?"
She doesn’t seem from the Capital City circle.
Eliza hesitated for a moment, then said, "Julia Land, a bankrupt from Dunmore City. She was once my brother’s secretary and clung to him, hoping to marry him. It’s surprising that, now divorced, she still could..."
She left her sentence unfinished, but everyone knew she meant Julia could still continue being a mistress.
"Miss Land is whose mistress?" a society lady curiously asked. "Surely not his?"
Although Eliza was naïve, she didn’t answer the question, only smiled.
"Could it be him?"
Not far away, a man, overly confident in his appeal, was talking to Julia and the others.
The man standing in front of Julia was a well-known playboy from the Capital City Lincoln circle.
Everyone followed the society lady’s gaze.
This man was Blake Lincoln, a notorious womanizer.
The society lady looked at Eliza, waiting for an answer.
"I need to go find my grandmother; please excuse me," Eliza said as she left, unwilling to defend Julia.
Seeing Eliza dodge the question, everyone made their own assumptions.
"It seems Miss Land truly is Blake Lincoln’s mistress."
"But, she’s just a mistress, why would the Thompson Family invite her?"
"Who knows if her invitation was real or fake? Maybe she was brought along by deceiving Lincoln."
Everyone accepted this last speculation.
After all, it was just gossip, and Julia’s status was insignificant in their eyes.
"Miss Hart, long time no see," Blake Lincoln said, turning his smile to Julia, "To which family does this lady belong?"
Julia silently sized up Blake Lincoln, her eyes growing colder.
This man’s gaze was particularly annoying, the kind that harbored many secrets.
Standing next to Chloe Sullivan, James Thompson saw Julia and noticed Blake Lincoln’s gaze towards her, his own expression turning slightly cold as he prepared to head over.
Just then, Cody Thompson arrived with two uncles.
"Is this your future daughter-in-law? She and James are well matched. When can we expect to drink to your children’s wedding?"
Chloe Sullivan smiled shyly yet graciously.
Cody Thompson joked, "You’ll be able to toast to their wedding soon. I used to worry so much that James would never marry."
These two uncles were members of the Thompson family, and Cody gave them face.
The group chatted and laughed.
When James was about to make an excuse to leave for Julia’s side, Sophia Hart had already pulled her away.
"Sister Julia, let’s go."
Sophia didn’t even glance at Blake Lincoln, taking Julia away.
Blake stood with a glass of wine in his hand, shrugging, his lecherous eyes lingering on Julia.
Outstanding.
Meanwhile, Julia asked Sophia to wait for a moment while she headed to the restroom—she had drunk a milk before leaving.
As she opened the stall door and stepped out, she immediately saw Noah Quarter.
The door to the restroom was closed.
He was dressed in a formal suit, his expression cold as he stood by the door.
Julia frowned, washed her hands, and as she wiped them, said through the mirror to Noah by the door, "Does Director Quarter enjoy listening to the sound of people peeing?"
Her words were crass and straightforward.
She walked to the door to exit.
Noah placed one hand on the doorknob and grabbed her wrist with the other.
Their eyes both fell on her wrist.
"Julia, leave with me now. Staying here is not good for you."
Julia looked up at him, smiling faintly, "Why should I listen to you? Besides, we don’t have any relationship."
Her words were not too harsh, considering he had once rescued her from that horrible place.
"Let go."
Noah didn’t, his body tense, "James is about to marry Chloe Sullivan. Do you really want to be the third party? Staying here will only bring you humiliation."
"It won’t," Julia smiled, "I trust Mr. Thompson. He won’t let me be the third party. Please let go, thank you."
She still trusted him that much?
After what had been practically proven today!
Noah’s expression darkened, he leaned closer, and slowly said, "Even at this point, you still trust him? Haven’t you noticed? He’s been standing with Chloe Sullivan all evening greeting guests—that’s his attitude."
The atmosphere went quiet.
Julia paused before speaking softly, "I’ll repeat, I trust Mr. Thompson. He definitely won’t betray me."
Noah’s eyes darkened further, and he nearly snapped, his voice cold, "Fine, fine, just keep your eyes wide open and see how he won’t betray you today!"
