Goodbye, Ex-husband! I’m Pregnant with Your Uncle’s Child! -
Chapter 167: Sigh
Chapter 167: Chapter 167: Sigh
"Chloe Sullivan had contacted me through Trevor Sullivan on the phone, and I had people look into it," she said. "You might not be able to accept this at once."
"I understand." James Thompson’s face was cold as he stood up, turning to leave the study.
The lights were on in the Thompson Family’s back garden, even late at night.
The man sat on the swing, with the black sky above resembling the darkness of his current thoughts.
He lit a cigarette, holding it in the corner of his mouth.
Reaching into the inner pocket of his coat, he pulled out a small photograph.
In the photo, a girl held a book with both hands, puzzlingly drawing with a pen.
The weather on the day he took the picture was actually not good, a bit overcast.
He had always carried this picture with him.
Not until his cigarette had burned out did he put away the photo and stand up.
Chloe Sullivan was standing not far away.
Seeing that he was preparing to leave, she hurried over.
"Brother Thompson."
She was wearing a simple cotton dress, her hair disheveled, and in her arms was a baby, looking very vulnerable.
"Can we talk?" she asked softly, her eyes conveying a plea.
The man’s half face was hidden in the dark, and he slowly curved into a smile, turning back to look at her.
He stood there motionless, watching her.
With a lazy smile, James said, "If you have something to say, say it quickly."
Chloe let out a sigh of relief, finally willing to listen to her.
Holding the baby, she approached James, saying despondently, "About the child, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. Your relationship with Miss Land was good at that time, and I actually hesitated whether or not to have them."
"I..." she paused, "I couldn’t bear to abort them, that’s why I contacted Uncle Thompson."
After speaking, Chloe looked down at the child, her voice bitter, "Brother Thompson, are you very angry?"
"No, the Thompson Family should thank you for giving birth to the child," he said seriously, with a slight smile at the corner of his lips, "I’m not angry. I really should thank you. I know you didn’t mean to hide it from me."
His words were a bit cold.
Chloe frowned, helpless, "Brother Thompson, must you always speak so coldly? You should know that my relationship with Madeline was always good, and when I learned the truth, as the person involved, I was even more pained?"
Her eyes blinked red.
Bit her lip.
She held the infant closer, showing him to James, her voice gentle, "This is Eleanor, do you want to hold her?"
The man gazed at the tiny baby, then turned away expressionlessly and left.
A look of bewildered sadness flashed across Chloe’s face.
How could he react like this?
It shouldn’t be.
She followed, clutching the child,
The next second, she stumbled.
Chloe cried out.
The man turned at the sound and managed to catch Chloe and the baby in her arms in time.
Chloe’s complexion turned pale; she hadn’t done it on purpose, "Thank you."
Julia Land stood with her arms crossed, squinting at the man and woman across from her, "Mr. Thompson, time to go to sleep."
Chloe looked up at Julia.
James smiled as he walked over to Julia, pulling her hand into his, fingers interlocking, "You came out looking for me?"
"Yeah, I only found out you were here after asking Butler Huang," Julia said, frowning in disgust, "I got bitten by mosquitoes, what are you doing in the back garden so late at night?"
"I’m sorry," the man said in a low voice, placating her.
Chloe watched the embracing couple walk away, realizing he would apologize to Julia.
*
In the room.
Julia had called the man back and was now hugging her tablet, watching funny videos, laughing uproariously.
Her laughter shook like blossoms in the breeze.
And the man sitting by her side,
He had been silent since returning from the back garden, simply sitting.
Julia didn’t ask what had happened.
"Julia, ask me what exactly happened," he commanded in a flat tone.
Julia’s laughter stopped abruptly, and she turned her head to glance at the man, a smirk forming, "A good man should speak up on his own, instead of waiting for a woman to ask."
Her bold words caught the man off guard.
He spread his legs wide, his eyes twinkling with humor, his hands lazily cradled behind his head, his shirt buttons undone, revealing his chest.
He gave Julia a challenging look, "With a personality like yours, you’ll manage well no matter what life throws at you."
Julia found his words strange.
She paused the video, and her gaze theatrically swept over the man from head to toe, then sharpened, "What do you mean by that?"
The man just felt a chill all over, he closed his casually spread legs and grumbled in his heart, why was he afraid of this woman!
He pulled up the corners of his mouth faintly, smiling as he poured himself a glass of boiled water, but Julia Land snatched the water he had poured for himself.
"...."
He poured another glass and said, "I don’t mean anything by it, just that I admire this kind of personality you have."
By the time she finds out that James Thompson and Chloe Sullivan are preparing to get married, given her personality, she should be able to adjust quickly.
Julia Land stared at the man for a few seconds before turning her head back to continue watching funny videos.
She had reason to suspect that the man was hiding something important from her.
"Little Julia, let’s go stay somewhere else after breakfast tomorrow morning."
He was worried that if he stayed at the Thompson Family’s place for too long, Cody Thompson would recognize that he was an impostor.
To imitate James Thompson, he had practiced for years, but he still had to be cautious around Cody Thompson.
He dared to come to the Thompson household so openly this time because James Thompson had rarely returned home over the past few years.
Julia Land had no objections to the suggestion to stay elsewhere; she was quite pleased.
She casually asked about another matter, "When do you plan to do the paternity test with the twins?"
The man’s eyes flickered, revealing a sinister and devilish smile, "In a couple of days."
Julia Land did not turn to look at him, but she did catch a glimpse of his creepy smile in the small mirror on the coffee table as she raised her eyes.
She lowered her gaze to continue watching the video.
Hmm, this funny video isn’t funny, she swiped her finger and switched to another one.
Who’s human, who’s a ghost, we won’t know until the end.
Julia Land yawned, her voice tinged with a hint of tiredness, "I’m going to take a shower and sleep now, you can sleep on the sofa or the floor tonight."
After she turned off the tablet, she placed it carelessly on the sofa.
She stood up, walking over to James Thompson.
Julia Land bent over, her smile insincere, pinching the man’s chin with thumb and forefinger with just a bit of pressure, "The anger from you shipping me onto the plane today, oh, I haven’t gotten over it yet, understand?"
The woman’s slender fingers released the man’s chin, her pointer sliding down his sexy Adam’s apple as it bobbed, then continued downward.
Her finger stopped at that inconsequential little mole, slid to his collarbone, and gave a poke.
"Heh."
Leaving just a "heh," the woman stood up straight and reached for her pajamas, her faint scent wafting through the air.
The man raised an eyebrow, he lifted his well-defined fingers, perversely mimicking Julia Land’s motions on himself, finally stopping at the spot where she had paused.
"Mr. Thompson, where are my pajamas???" The woman’s voice interrupted his fleeting thought.
James Thompson stood up, walked over, glanced at the suitcase, bent down, and picked up a black skirt suitable for going out, "This could temporarily serve as pajamas, right? I’ll go buy you some tomorrow."
Julia Land was instantly dumbfounded.
"Or you could just sleep in a bathrobe?" he lowered his gaze to her, suggesting again.
Julia Land took the black dress with a cold face.
The bathroom door, closed.
Soon, the sound of water came from the bathroom.
*
The next morning.
They had breakfast in the downstairs restaurant.
Cody Thompson had already left for the office early in the morning.
Maya Chant said softly to Chloe Sullivan, "Little Chloe, congratulations in advance."
She had roughly found out something from Cody Thompson the night before, that James Thompson would marry Chloe Sullivan, and the wedding announcement would be made at the hundred-day banquet.
Chloe Sullivan asked with a bit of confusion, "Madam, congratulations for what?"
Maya smiled, her meaning profound, "It’s a secret."
Chloe Sullivan covered her mouth with a laugh, "You’re just teasing me, aren’t you?"
She laughed and then took out her phone.
Julia Land and James Thompson stepped out of the elevator, only to see Chloe Sullivan getting along very well with the second lady.
She also saw Chloe Sullivan’s twins.
The two babies were still sleeping in their big stroller.
Chloe Sullivan, with a beaming smile, was taking pictures of the twins with her phone.
As James Thompson passed by the twins, he glanced at them indifferently, his eyes entirely cold.
After breakfast, Julia Land and James Thompson left the Thompson house.
Chloe Sullivan lowered her gaze to the twins.
She reminded herself again, no rush, she had already gotten this far, success wasn’t far away.
James Thompson took Julia Land to a newly purchased house.
He couldn’t take her to stay at his previously owned villa, so he had to buy a new one temporarily.
With a few days left until the hundred-day banquet, James Thompson planned to spend that time taking Julia Land around Capital City.
