Chapter 161: Chapter 161 Prenatal Checkup

"The invitation has been sent to Julia Land. Do you think she’ll come to the banquet?" Yan Wenlin asked her daughter while taking care of her skin.

Chloe Sullivan, holding a baby bottle and cradling her daughter, responded with a smile as she fed her milk, "Mom, don’t worry. If she doesn’t come, I have my ways to make her come."

"Eleanor is really well-behaved and doesn’t seem to fuss," first complimented Yan Wenlin before nodding, "You’re reliable in what you do. Have you prepared your dress for the party?"

"Second Lady has already prepared it for me," Chloe Sullivan replied with a smile.

Maya Chant is known for her impressive social skills, which Chloe Sullivan had experienced firsthand within the Thompson Family. No wonder Elder Thompson always treated the Second Lady so well.

"Mom, Eliza Quarter comes from a decent family and apart from being a bit naive, she doesn’t have any bad habits. Do you think she’s a good match for my brother?"

Yan Wenlin pondered for a moment, "Do you want to play matchmaker for them? What Selene Wells wants is a daughter-in-law who is well-educated, comes from a good family, and is both intelligent and generous."

She scoffed after speaking.

Chloe Sullivan put the bottle down, "Mom, you could also mention it to Auntie."

Yan Wenlin appeared to understand her daughter’s intention and thought for a while, "Okay, I’ll just mention it."

Today, Julia Land was going for a prenatal check-up, specifically for an ultrasound to measure the baby’s size.

Doctor Tang, upon seeing that the man accompanying Julia wasn’t Mr. Quarter, felt a bit curious.

"Everything with the baby is normal, and your health is much better now than the last time you came," the doctor informed her.

"Thank you." Julia smiled when she heard that the baby was all right.

James Thompson, carrying Julia’s small purse, thanked the doctor and wrapped his arm around Julia as they left the consultation room.

"I’ll go pay; you sit here and wait for me."

James handed her the purse, took the form, and queued up to make the payment while Julia gleefully took out the ultrasound photo to look at it.

So tiny, so adorable.

Perhaps this is what it feels like to be a mother. Julia thought about her unknown origins and smiled to herself.

Yan Wenlin, who happened to be in the hospital, stopped in her tracks, took off her sunglasses, and stared at the woman sitting in the first row of chairs.

Wearing a simple, loose dress—Julia Land?

Definitely her.

Yan Wenlin handed her sunglasses to her assistant and walked up to where Julia was sitting.

Seeing the ultrasound photo in Julia’s hand, Yan Wenlin furrowed her brows, "Miss Land, you’re actually pregnant?"

Whose child is it?

The voice was somewhat piercing.

Julia looked up and put the ultrasound photo into her purse. So this was Chloe Sullivan’s mother. She couldn’t help but find it funny and pretended to ask, "Excuse me, who are you?"

"..."

Dressed head to toe in designer brands and with the air of a wealthy lady, Yan Wenlin caught the attention of everyone around them.

Yan Wenlin forced a smile, "I’m Chloe Sullivan’s mother, Miss Land. You’re really shameless."

Julia, keeping her composure while sitting, asked with a smile, "How am I being shameless? I happen to quite like my own face."

"...."

"You do have a quick tongue," Yan Wenlin snorted coldly with a smile, "You’re just a mistress kept on the side, and now have the nerve to get pregnant and have a child? How embarrassing it will be for the kid to grow up and realize their mother is a mistress?"

People around started staring at Julia.

Such a beautiful woman, and she’s a mistress?

And now she’s pregnant?

Julia took a deep breath and said with a slight sneer in her eyes, "Madam, please watch your language. The man I’m with is my legitimate boyfriend, so don’t speak nonsense."

Yan Wenlin looked at Julia with scorn, "Becoming a mistress and afraid to be talked about? What legitimate relationship? Just a woman kept outside. Truly shameless."

Her daughter is the bride publicly acknowledged by the Thompson Family.

"I recognize that woman, Julia Land, Director Quarter’s ex-wife."

"So, she’s pregnant, huh?"

The old lady sitting next to Julia Land was one who hated mistresses the most. She frowned and chastised, "Miss, you’re so beautiful, it’s much better to find a man and get married than to be a mistress."

One of the voices spoke up for Julia, "How could she possibly be someone’s mistress? That’s impossible, right? She got a lot of money from her divorce with Director Quarter, there’s no need for her to be a mistress."

Selene Wells looked at the person defending Julia, as they were all acquaintances from the same circle.

"Mrs. Wells, you shouldn’t underestimate her. How could a little secretary enter the Quarter family if she hadn’t climbed into the boss’s bed? And now she’s relying on being a mistress, trying to disrupt my daughter’s life by having an illegitimate child."

Mrs. Wells was shocked to hear this; Selene’s daughter was Chloe Sullivan.

Was Julia dating James Thompson?

The Thompson Family had indeed acknowledged Chloe publicly. Had Julia really degraded herself to be James’s mistress? And now she was pregnant.

Mrs. Wells became silent.

Her relationship with Leah Thompson was quite good; her eyes fell on Julia’s belly with concern that was hard to put into words.

Julia didn’t want to sit there and be gawked at like a monkey.

She stood up, frowning, "I’ll say it again, James has always been my boyfriend."

Selene Wells felt both angry and amused, "On the hundredth-day celebration for my granddaughter, James and my daughter will announce their engagement. Then I’ll see how you can have the nerve to say that."

"Oh, is that so?" Julia glanced at Selene with a faint side-eye, "Well, we can discuss this when the engagement is announced."

Why was James taking so long to pay the fees? Julia took out her phone to call him.

But because of what Julia had said, Selene thought Julia was challenging her, this ’waiting until the engagement announcement to argue’ thing.

She saw Julia about to leave and reached out to grab her.

"Mrs. Sullivan, let go," Julia frowned, her face cold. Seeing no response on the other end of the phone, she hung up and turned her head to Selene, "What do you really want to do?"

At that moment, not far away, Christopher Moore leaned against the wall, observing the dispute around Julia. He hadn’t seen anyone come to Julia’s defense.

It seemed that James was truly dead; otherwise, people would have been sent to secretly protect Julia.

His covert forces had recently been disrupted, and he had suspected James was alive, plotting against him in secret.

But if James wasn’t dead, he wouldn’t allow Julia to continue staying by his side. Perhaps he was overthinking it.

Just then, Moore noticed a woman wearing a hat.

She held a cup of milk tea and hurried towards Selene’s direction.

One of James’s people?

As the woman was about to approach Selene, a man’s voice suddenly called out to Julia, and that woman naturally picked up a phone call, passing by Julia and the others, and left.

"That man was just standing behind the wall watching, you almost got exposed. Leave, we’ll have someone else protect Miss Land."

The woman nodded in response, "Okay."

Moore leaned against the wall, watching the woman’s retreating figure, before returning his gaze.

His eyes grew cold as he noticed Noah Quarter had also come to the hospital today.

"Julia," Noah stood beside Julia, his cool gaze falling on Selene, "Mrs. Sullivan, what is this about?"

Selene let go of Julia’s hand; she had been gripping it tightly.

Red marks were clearly visible on Julia’s fair arm.

Noah coolly looked down at the marks, "Mrs. Sullivan, we should be more mindful in public."

When Selene heard Noah speak up for Julia, she sized up the two of them and smiled, "I didn’t expect Director Quarter would also be here today. Could it be that the two of you came together?"

Noah replied indifferently, "No."

He turned to look at Julia, "Did you come alone? Shall I drive you back?"

"No need, James came with me, thanks," Julia planned to find James at the payment counter, "I’m leaving now."

"Miss Land, wait," Selene’s voice grew louder, audible to those around, "When the engagement is announced, I hope you’ll have some self-respect and not give birth to a child that will make everyone uncomfortable."
