Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Approaching Her

Julia Land got up early in the morning.

With her hair resembling a bird’s nest, the first thing she did was search for any news about James Thompson.

There was no news from Mr. Thompson today.

She had previously asked people in Scott Nation to help look for him, but there was no news today either.

Julia zoned out for a while, then got up to wash and get ready.

Today she had to apply for a replacement ID card.

She went to the drawer to get her household registration book.

When she opened the drawer, she saw several bank cards.

Two of them were hers, the other was a card given to her by James Thompson.

The day she was kidnapped, all the cards she carried had disappeared, fortunately, she was not in the habit of carrying all her cards on her.

Julia’s thoughts wandered.

She had a simple breakfast, drove to apply for a replacement ID card, but would have to wait ten days before she could get it.

She had a bowl of noodles for lunch outside and then went to the supermarket to buy some things.

The house still needed cleaning.

She kept herself busy with chores.

In the evening, for the sake of nutrition, she decided to cook herself.

While Julia was cooking, she suddenly thought of someone.

James Knight.

A subordinate of James Thompson.

She turned off the stove quickly, grabbed her phone, and dialed James Knight’s number.

The phone at the other end rang for a long time and was finally answered just as Julia was about to give up hope.

James Knight’s voice was extremely hoarse, "Hello?"

Julia breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the voice, "It’s me, Julia Land; where are you now? I want to ask about James Thompson’s situation."

James Knight moved to a corner and spoke in a low voice, "Miss Land, I’m in Scott Stronghold; are you asking about the boss’s whereabouts? We’re also searching but have found no news, however..."

"However, what?" Julia leaned on the kitchen counter, supporting her body as she gripped the phone tightly.

"We asked a resident of Scott Stronghold; he said he saw the BOSS the day of the serial explosions around him."

The explosions had occurred, and at the time, some people were blown to indistinguishable remains.

Julia immediately understood what James Knight meant.

If James Thompson was still alive, he must be seriously injured.

"Did any hospital find someone?" Julia asked softly.

"No, we’ve almost searched all the hospitals here and can’t find anyone."

James Knight rubbed his brow, which was the key point; if someone was seriously injured and couldn’t be found in the hospital, it meant that the chances were slim.

Julia asked about the reason James Thompson went to Scott Stronghold this time, and she somewhat learned one thing from James Knight.

James Thompson had a feud with Christopher Moore of the Moore family in Capital City; what exactly the feud was, James Knight was not very clear.

"Miss Land, be careful of the Moore family people in the country. If they find out about your relationship with the BOSS, they might trouble you. Yesterday, the Moore family also released news that Christopher Moore has gone missing in Scott Stronghold."

James Knight had other matters to attend to and hung up after saying these things.

"James, who was that on the phone just now?"

Noah Quarter, who had come to Scott Stronghold to look for someone, came over to James Knight and patted his shoulder.

"The BOSS’s woman."

James Knight checked the bullets in his gun as he spoke.

"That Miss Sullivan who had twins for the BOSS?" Noah also watched the news from Capital City.

James Knight did not respond to Noah’s question.

Even he couldn’t figure it out, but last time when they set up Jameson Shaw, Assistant Winters had told him to follow Miss Land’s instructions.

"We’re off; next, we go to Middle Province to look."

Finding the person was now the most important thing.

After Julia hung up with James Knight, the phrase ’explosion’ kept circling in her mind.

She pursed her lips and turned the stove back on.

The cooking was only half-finished when, in her distraction, the food burned.

Julia gave up on her plan to cook dinner herself that day, deciding to go out to eat. There was a private restaurant just a few minutes’ walk away.

By the time she finished her meal and left the restaurant, the streetlights were already on.

Before, after they had dinner, Mr. Thompson would always take her for a walk to aid digestion.

Now under the streetlights, there was only her shadow.

She stood under the streetlight, her hair strands blown by the breeze to her cheeks.

Julia brushed her hair aside, took the keys out of her pocket, and tried to open the door.

"?"

She tried turning the key again, but the door still wouldn’t open.

She was a bit dazed.

She had just had the locksmith change the lock yesterday!

Julia placed a hand on her hip and called the locksmith, "Master, the lock you changed for me yesterday isn’t opening!"

The locksmith puffing on his cigarette, sitting under a small fan with a furrowed brow, said, "Is it the Chinese-style villa on Faith Road? Impossible, you might have taken the wrong key?"

Julia looked at the key in her hand subconsciously, "It’s not the wrong one."

She didn’t have Alzheimer’s.

"Wait for me; I’ll be right over." After hanging up, the locksmith, in disbelief, couldn’t fathom that a problem could arise with his decades-long career in lock replacement at Julia’s house.

He took his tools, hopped on his electric moped, and rushed over.

Julia stood at the doorstep, sighing helplessly.

What was going on, her luck was just so bad.

She sat right down on the ground to wait.

Silence surrounded her; although it wasn’t very late yet, people occasionally passed by, but Julia was actually a bit scared.

She considered hiring a bodyguard but was afraid of putting others in harm’s way.

A car passed by, and Noah Quarter, who was in the car, saw Julia sitting at the house entrance.

She looked a bit like she had nowhere to go.

Pitiable.

Julia also noticed the car parked beside the neighboring villa; she showed no particular reaction, glanced at it, and then looked down at her phone to check the time.

How long would it take for the locksmith to arrive? She should have asked earlier.

Noah got out of the car; he didn’t immediately go inside but stood for a while, then moved toward the neighbor’s place.

Julia heard footsteps and turned her head to see Noah approaching.

He came in front of her, pulled up the hem of his pants slightly, and half-squatted, with his other elbow resting on his knee.

He looked at her and asked coldly, "Why aren’t you going inside, sitting here like this?"

Julia shifted her position, slightly increasing the distance between them, and looked up to meet Noah’s unfathomable black eyes.

She spoke mildly, "Waiting for someone to fix the lock."

Noah raised an eyebrow; wasn’t that a new lock just changed yesterday?

Julia still felt they were too close.

She chose to push herself up from the ground, standing up.

Tonight, she wore a skirt that reached her knees, with her smooth calves exposed.

Noah’s gaze swept over her calves and then lifted to see her retreat a step further.

He stood up.

Moved closer to her.

The natural height advantage of men can sometimes bring an oppressive presence to women.
