Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Things Remain the Same, But People Change
Capital City.
"The latest news, the next heir to the Thompson Group has encountered an unidentified firepower attack in Scott Stronghold, and his fate is unknown."
"Currently, the Thompson Group has sent people to search for him in Scott Stronghold."
"It is understood that the next heir already has a lover and a pair of twins."
Reporters stood outside the hospital with microphones, reporting on the event while waiting to interview James Thompson’s lover.
There were also reporters from other families outside the hospital.
Chloe Sullivan came out of the hospital with a pram under the protection of her bodyguards.
The reporters quickly extended their microphones.
"Miss Sullivan, do you have any news about Mr. Thompson?"
"Sorry, sorry, please make way."
"Miss Sullivan, is that ring you’re wearing your engagement ring?"
When Chloe Sullivan heard this question, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes, reddened from crying, hidden behind sunglasses.
She raised her right hand, showing a ring on her middle finger.
"This is a ring he had custom-made for me."
The day before yesterday, she was contacted by several internationally renowned designers, and only then did she learn that James Thompson had already ordered a ring and a gown.
Although she knew they were not made for her.
*
Half a month later.
Dunmore City, hospital.
Julia Land had been in a coma for two days before she awoke.
"You’re awake."
Julia turned her head towards the direction of the voice.
"Why is it you?"
Her voice was hoarse.
Noah Quarter poured a glass of water, wanting to help Julia sit up and drink.
"Don’t touch me."
Noah’s hand holding the cup tightened, and he adjusted the head of the bed upwards.
Desperate for water, Julia took the glass and drank.
Those people were terrifying.
She had watched, wide-eyed, as they took one person after another onto the operating table.
The thought alone made her teeth tremble and shiver.
Noah Quarter’s profound eyes watched Julia, pale-faced, "Sorry it took so long to rescue you."
Christopher Moore’s move was indeed ruthless.
Having drunk some water, Julia’s gaze, now a faint color, turned towards Noah, "Can I borrow your phone?"
Noah handed her his phone.
Julia took it and quickly dialed James Thompson’s number.
Having disappeared for so long, Mr. Thompson must be very worried.
Leaning against the head of the hospital bed, no one answered the call on the other side.
She frowned and then dialed Jasper Winters’ mobile number, but again no one picked up.
Strange.
"Are you trying to call James Thompson?" Noah spoke up, "You should first look at the news from half a month ago."
Julia was puzzled, "What do you mean?"
Noah took back the phone and pulled up the news from half a month ago for Julia to see.
Julia scrolled down one by one, all the news about James Thompson.
Her fingers trembled, her chest tight.
When she saw a piece about James Thompson’s lover and children, her pupils contracted violently as she clicked on it.
Chloe Sullivan.
Chloe Sullivan was still wearing the ring on her middle finger.
The news reported that Chloe Sullivan had given birth to a pair of twins for James Thompson.
Impossible! Mr. Thompson had told her that Chloe Sullivan was carrying Madeline’s child.
What was going on?
Noah explained, "James Thompson is missing in Scott Stronghold, and the likelihood of death is high. The Thompson Group’s stock price initially dropped because they lost the next heir, but now the third generation heir exists."
"Chloe Sullivan’s children are not James Thompson’s."
Julia stated firmly and, putting down the phone, hurriedly and anxiously got out of bed.
Her head suddenly felt dizzy.
Noah reached out to support her, noticing her wrist was noticeably thinner, "Where are you going?"
She had been kept for half a month, eating very little each day, causing malnutrition.
"To Scott Stronghold."
Julia closed her eyes, waiting for the dizziness to subside. Her lips grew even paler.
She probably also knew that her body was not fit to travel there now, and forced herself to calm down.
Seeing Julia sit back down, Noah pursed his thin lips, "You going there is of no use. The Thompson Family has sent many people to look for James Thompson’s whereabouts, and so far, no one can find him. Moreover, Scott Stronghold is currently in turmoil."
That place was always chaotic.
Julia didn’t respond; she hurriedly took Noah’s phone again and dialed Sophia Hart’s mobile number.
Finally, someone on the other end picked up.
"Hello?"
"Sophia, it’s me."
Sophia Hart, surprised and delighted to hear Julia’s voice, broke into a smile.
Seeing Chloe Sullivan looking in her direction, Sophia reigned in her joy and turned to go upstairs.
"Hold on a second."
Julia could guess that Sophia was probably in a position where it was inconvenient to talk.
She covered the phone and turned to Noah, "Mr. Quarter, could you step out for a moment?"
Noah glanced at the phone in Julia’s hand and nodded, "I’ll have Alexander Strong arrange for a new phone for you."
"Thank you."
Julia currently had no ID, no money, and not even the keys to her house.
She needed to rearrange for her documents before she could manage a bank card.
Noah left the hospital room, his eyes slightly deepening, and closed the door.
Sophia had meanwhile entered her bedroom and spoke to Julia, "Julia, where have you been all this time?"
She had sent people to find Julia, but no luck.
Sophia was anxious, not knowing what to do.
"I’m fine now, don’t worry. Where are you? Any news about James Thompson?" Julia spoke with a pause, still sounding weak.
"I’m at the Thompson Family residence," Sophia had rushed back from Dunmore City to Capital City when she learned about James Thompson’s disappearance, "There has been no word from Brother Thompson, and also... "
Hearing Sophia’s unfinished statement, Julia knew she was about to mention Chloe Sullivan.
"Sophia, she secretly had Brother Thompson’s children." Sophia was furious now whenever she saw the twins; how could Brother Thompson be such a scoundrel.
"They are not his; I trust James Thompson," Julia insisted, believing in James’s character, "Has there been a paternity test?"
Cody Thompson, now head of the Thompson Family, wouldn’t be so foolish.
In such a case, at least a paternity test would be conducted.
Julia suddenly held her forehead. No, that’s not right; with James disappeared, they couldn’t perform a paternity test.
However, just as she had this thought, Sophia whispered on the phone, "James Thompson’s father has publicly acknowledged the twins."
So, she genuinely was unsure if the twins really were Brother Thompson’s children???
Julia couldn’t figure it out either.
But the most important thing now was to find James Thompson.
"The day James Thompson left the country, he said he had something to deal with. Sophia, do you know what it was?"
"I don’t know; I haven’t been able to find out anything since I came back," Sophia said disappointedly.
She felt like she was of no help.
At this moment, downstairs at the Thompson Family residence.
Maya Chant, the second Mrs. Thompson was middle-aged but well-maintained, still full of charm.
She smiled as she looked at the twins beside Chloe Sullivan, "The brother looks a bit like James Thompson, and the sister looks like you."
Chloe managed a strained smile, her face pale and weary from worrying about James Thompson, "Thank you."
