Chapter 436: Chapter 266 Judicial Court, Execution Privilege
"I am an official directly under Elfino Your Highness, on what grounds are you investigating me? What right do you have to arrest me?"
Though the Great Fairy, whose entire body had been sealed by the Magic Prohibition Chains, cutting off elemental perception and pushing her into a desperate situation, her aura was in no way weakened, and she loudly rebuked and questioned her kin who came to arrest her.
"We are acting under the orders of Sifreya Your Highness to investigate you. Upon investigation, it was found that during your tenure as Chief Secretary of the Moduo City Court, you colluded with local officials and nobles, long-term accepted bribes, amassed unexplained assets, abused your power, fabricated charges, and extorted merchants..."
Faced with as many as nineteen charges, the restrained Great Fairy showed defiance, loudly protesting,
"This is slander, someone is trying to frame me, I am innocent, release me!"
"Save those words for the Judicial Court!"
The Great Fairy in charge of the arrest wore a cold expression as she directed the Steel Magic Statue, piloted by fairies, to disperse the crowd of onlookers.
Before the imposing five-meter tall Steel Magic Statues, the crowd parted like waves, revealing a group of people in ornate clothing.
"Sir, my Viscount wishes to invite you for dinner, would you be so kind..."
"Our City Lord has prepared a banquet for you to welcome and refresh you."
Seeing the claws of the privileged class probing intentions, the Great Fairy, now adorned with dragon scales on her face, showed an unbridled look of disgust and aversion,
"I have no interest in meeting any Viscount, step aside, obstructing official duties will result in immediate execution!"
As the leading fairy finished her words, the two Steel Magic Statues behind her immediately raised their arms. The micro magic-guided explosive cannons mounted under the arms of the statues emitted a sound of elemental resonance that alerted and felt extremely dangerous.
Bang~
On a distant pavilion, hearing the leading dragonification Great Fairy outright rejecting the offer before her servant even finished speaking, a hand struck the railing with an angry momentum, scattering splinters and causing the entire pavilion to tremble,
"It seems I, as a Viscount, am still too insignificant to be considered by this esteemed fairy from the Holy City."
"Even if you were an Earl, so what? Haven’t these fairies arrested and killed enough?"
A middle-aged man with a solemn demeanor glanced at the furious Viscount and coolly questioned.
"You still have the mind to drink tea? Shouldn’t you be thinking about what to do next? That gluttonous fool who only knows how to extort has already been captured!"
"She won’t be in trouble."
"Of course, I know she won’t be in trouble, she’s a fairy, how could she be? I’m talking about us, what should we do next? Do you think she’ll keep our secrets?"
"Since her life isn’t at any risk, what benefit would she have from exposing us?"
"That’s what you say, but..."
"There’s no ’but.’ Though Erica is greedy, she isn’t stupid. And according to the rules among fairies, she’ll be released after being confined for a few decades. As long as we’re still around, she’ll naturally continue to benefit; even if we aren’t, our descendants will fulfill the promises."
"Those damned fairies."
Hearing the City Lord’s reassurance, the Viscount finally calmed down somewhat, but he couldn’t suppress his feelings and resentfully cursed,
"Why am I not a fairy?"
"Haha, don’t even think about it."
Under the direction of the indisputably strongest Dragon Fairy, Sifreya, the investigation and arrests were carried out in less than seven days, commanding a group of a few others like her — uninterested in politics and dedicated only to serving the Holy Dragon — apprehending over three hundred Great Fairies and two Dragon Fairies.
This was a storm that swept through the entire Holy Dragon Territory. Although fairies are taken away for investigation every year, there had never been such a large number simultaneously arrested in such a short time.
What made it even more noteworthy was that the investigation was led by the Dragon Fairy, Sifreya, who had rarely appeared before the world and was regarded as the first future Fairy Queen.
The emergence of this future Her Majesty the Queen from the shadows into the spotlight carried many interpretations because, in some respects, she was an extension of the Holy Dragon’s will; her every move could be seen as the Holy Dragon’s stance towards the outside world.
Within seven days, capturing over three hundred Great Fairies in governance and occupying high positions across the lands, was the Holy Dragon planning a purge of its first clan under its rule?
This could indeed be considered a good thing; even some officials and nobles with ties to the fairies applauded it, though there was little expectation for the final outcome.
After all, the principle of not killing among the Fairy Clan is well-known, even to the children among the common folk; crimeladen fairies, regardless of the severity of their crimes, only face the loss of all assets and being sent back to Fairy Town, after which they return to cause troubles again.
The privileges enjoyed by fairies make even the Nobles envious and have been a point of contention for many officials as they do not feel that the contributions made by fairies warrant such privileges.
Everyone serves for His Majesty the Holy Dragon, so why should fairies receive special treatment? Just because you’re born a fairy? Look beautiful? Close to His Majesty the Holy Dragon? That doesn’t seem fair at all.
