"P-Please, give me a chance. I promise I will do anything you ask of me. P-Please, help me out, Lady Victoria. Don’t take away my financial aid."

The woman begged as she clutched Lady Victoria’s feet.

It was a semi-public setting, and the servant’s eyes glared at the trembling mage kneeling in front of the lady. But Lady Victoria had no sympathy for her.

Instead of assuring the female that she would help or even helping her up herself, Lady Victoria turned toward Lila and addressed her instead.

"Do you see this, my dear Lila? This is the true nature of humans. They are pitiful beings who are weak and always need help. That is why gods exist—to help these humans out. But because of this, they exhaust themselves and end up being in danger. That is what happened to your beloved Goddess Minerva as well."

The more Lady Victoria spoke, the more she watched the begging woman tremble.

Lila looked conflicted seeing this display seconds ago, but as soon as Goddess Minerva had been brought up, her attitude changed, and her eyes lit up.

"M-Madam, please! Have mercy on me. My research is all I have! I won’t be able to live if it is taken away from me. Please, have mercy on me."

The magician begged, her body leaning lower and lower until her head touched the ground. And yet, she still did not look up, choosing not to see what was going on around her.

"Anyway, I will gift this pitiful creature to you, Lila. I hope you are able to make good use of her to get what you want. Now, I shall get going. ’Master’ is going to be home soon."

Lady Victoria stood up with elegance, and she gave the pitiful lady one last look before she disappeared behind the door.

Lila watched her leave before she looked at the trembling female at her feet with narrowed eyes. She did not like how she had been used and then thrown scraps like these from Lady Victoria.

But Lila could not look away from such a scene of someone begging in front of her either. It went against her ethics.

"Get up and tell me more about yourself, lady. I promise to help you out as much as I can if you agree to do what I want you to."

Lila was quick to offer this, and the lady in front of her stiffened before she quickly pulled herself to her feet and gave Lila a curious yet strong look.

"Of course, my lady. Please, tell me what you want from me. As long as it is something within my capabilities, I will make sure it is done."

The female promised, and Lila thought about what she wanted.

She already had more than enough life force to connect to Goddess Minerva and hold a ritual for her. Now, she needed to get more magic to imbue into that life force to make a body for the goddess to inhabit.

And the only way to get that would be to drain out some magicians.

But since Lila was not a magician or significant enough to force her way inside the magic tower, she had no way to get that magic.

She could try to get it from ordinary people, but that was likely not a good idea. She would need millions of people to get the amount of magic she wanted.

Thankfully, it seemed as if she had found someone who would be able to help her out.

"I don’t need you to do something complicated. Here, this is a seed that I need you to plant in the magic tower’s plaza. Once it is there, make sure to keep away from the plaza and monitor it. Once it bears fruit, bring it to me."

Lila handed the small seed she had gotten from Lady Victoria over. It was a seed of the plant that absorbed magic and produced it as a form of fruit. It only formed one in its lifetime, but that one was all Lila needed.

The female student of the magic tower took the seed hesitantly, careful not to drop it or harm it. She knew that it was something precious, and she clutched it to her heart.

"I will take care of it with everything I have, miss. I, Nana White, will make sure this seed is planted to perfection and is taken care of exactly how you want it to be."

The female student bowed in front of Lila, and it made Lila feel odd. She turned her face away in shyness and waved the student off.

It felt odd to do something like this in hopes of helping someone out. Lila had never thought she would be able to do something like this after she made her decision to abandon everything.

But it feels surprisingly good to help someone else out like this. Maybe this is something I am destined for after all.

It was a ridiculous thought, but it made Lila feel happy. For the first time, she wanted to believe in another human and not care about the goddess.

But as soon as that thought passed inside her mind, Lila felt guilty and forced these emotions out of her mind.

A lot of people had been sacrificed by her to get to this point. Lila had no right to change her ways and think of a new goal in life.

Goddess Minerva was the one thing that drove Lila to take action, and she needed to keep it as her center of attention.

That night, a lone figure moved around the magic tower and planted the small seed in the most crowded place in the magic tower.

Once the seed was poured, she quickly threw a growth-accelerating potion on top to make the seed sprout and help the tree grow.

What grew from the seed was a sad-looking thing that had no leaves, and it made Nana feel sorry for it.

She reached out toward the tree because of it, but before she could touch it, she felt something sucking her magic. By the time she realized what was happening, it was too late, and she had ended up becoming a snack for the magic tree.
