Chapter 146: 146: Running Away- Part 2
Auriel shut the door behind her, exhaling as she leaned against the wooden frame.
The weight of the past few days had been suffocating, pressing down on her like an unrelenting force.
The demons, the dungeon, the elders—all of it had tested her patience far beyond what she was willing to tolerate.
’Enough was enough.’
She had spent more time in this village than she had intended.
She had played their game, indulged their ridiculous worship, and humored their desperate attempts to keep her here. But now, it was time to leave.
Auriel straightened, adjusting the cloak draped over her shoulders.
The moment she had returned to Seraphina’s home, she had made up her mind. She wasn’t going to waste another second in this village.
Seraphina was waiting for her inside, sitting cross-legged at the small wooden table, sipping from a ceramic cup.
She glanced up as Auriel stepped closer, her amber eyes scanning the goddess’s face.
"Finally came to your senses?"
Seraphina remarked, setting her cup down with a quiet clink.
Auriel rolled her eyes.
"I was just thinking the same thing. I’ve played enough house. It’s time for me to head back."
Seraphina hummed, tapping her fingers idly against the table.
"Good. I was wondering when you’d figure that out."
Auriel narrowed her eyes at her.
"You sound like you want me to leave."
"I do. I mean, it’s not like I hate having you here, but honestly? You don’t belong in this place. You’re too... much."
Seraphina shrugged.
Auriel raised an eyebrow.
"Too much?"
Seraphina smirked.
"Yes. Too powerful, too unpredictable, too irritating—you pick."
Auriel scoffed but didn’t argue.
She knew Seraphina was right. No matter what the demons in this village claimed, Auriel wasn’t meant to be here. She was a goddess. Her place was beyond this, where real divine matters awaited her.
Seraphina leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms.
"So, what’s the plan? You can’t just walk out of here. The elders will lose their minds if their ’goddess’ vanishes into thin air."
Auriel sighed, running a hand through her hair.
"I don’t care what the elders think. If they try to stop me, I’ll just—"
Seraphina held up a hand.
"No mass destruction, please."
Auriel clicked her tongue.
"Fine. I won’t destroy anything. But I am leaving."
Seraphina studied her for a moment before nodding.
"Alright, I’ll help. I’ll make sure you can slip out without causing a scene. Just—"
A rustle of movement caught their attention.
Auriel turned toward the doorway, expecting to see Seraphina’s cat or maybe a curious demon lurking nearby. But instead, standing silently in the entryway, was Lina.
Auriel blinked.
Lina didn’t say anything. She simply walked forward, stepping into the room as if she had made up her mind about something. Then, without a word, she came to stand beside Auriel.
The silence stretched.
Seraphina’s brow furrowed in confusion.
"Lina? What are you doing?"
Lina met Seraphina’s gaze with her usual calm expression.
"I’m going too."
Auriel’s eyes widened slightly, but Seraphina’s reaction was far more dramatic. She shot up from her seat, staring at Lina as if she had just spoken in another language.
"What? What? Lina, you can’t just decide to go! You’ve never even left this village before!"
Seraphina repeated, her voice rising.
Lina didn’t flinch.
"I know."
"Then why? What do you think you’re doing?"
Seraphina demanded, exasperated.
Lina’s eyes flickered toward Auriel, then back to Seraphina.
"This is what I want to do."
Seraphina opened her mouth, then closed it again. Her tail flicked behind her, her frustration clear in the way her hands curled into fists.
Auriel, meanwhile, was watching the exchange with mild surprise. She hadn’t expected this.
Sure, Lina had been oddly silent in her presence, never showing much emotion, but Auriel had never considered that the human girl wanted to leave the village.
And now, here she was—voluntarily walking into the unknown.
Seraphina let out a groan, rubbing her forehead.
"Lina, you don’t even know what’s out there. You’ve been here your whole life. Do you even realize how dangerous it is outside this village?"
Lina nodded.
"I do."
Seraphina stared at her, waiting for an explanation.
None came.
She threw her hands in the air.
"Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. Why now, Lina? Why leave now?"
Lina didn’t hesitate.
"Because I have a reason to."
Seraphina groaned again, slumping back into her chair.
"And that reason is...?"
Lina didn’t answer.
Auriel felt a smirk tug at her lips.
’Interesting.’
She glanced down at the girl beside her, noting the determined set of her shoulders. Lina wasn’t just saying this for the sake of it.
She meant it.
Seraphina let out a long sigh, muttering under her breath before finally looking up at Auriel.
"Are you really okay with this?"
She asked.
Auriel tilted her head.
"Why not?"
Seraphina gave her a deadpan look.
"Because she’s a human. You’re a goddess. You move too fast, take too many risks, and don’t exactly have a reputation for looking after fragile things."
Auriel scoffed.
"I’m not that reckless."
Seraphina raised an eyebrow.
Auriel crossed her arms.
"Fine. Maybe I am that reckless. But Lina made her choice."
She looked down at Lina again, waiting for the girl to change her mind. But Lina remained still, her expression unwavering.
"...Alright. I give up. If you want to go so badly, then go."
Seraphina muttered after a long pause.
Lina nodded once, as if confirming something to herself.
Seraphina leaned back in her chair, clearly frustrated but no longer fighting it.
"You better take care of her."
She grumbled to Auriel.
Auriel smirked.
"I’ll try not to lose her on the first day."
Seraphina scowled.
"Not funny."
Auriel chuckled before turning toward the door.
"Then I guess it’s settled. Time to go."
Lina silently followed.
Seraphina sighed, watching them step outside.
As Auriel and Lina disappeared down the path, Seraphina leaned back in her chair, shaking her head.
"...She’s really leaving."
She muttered.
And for the first time, Seraphina wasn’t sure what to think about it.
