Chapter 121: 121: The Goddess’s Taunt- Part 1

Auriel created a shield made of Divine magic to block the attack heading her way, but it collided with her shield, causing both to collapse in a matter of seconds.

The shock caused her to flinch, but Goddess Minerva was upon her within seconds, her hand reaching around the shield to grab Auriel.

Even if Minerva had lost most of her divinity and fallen onto the dark path, she was still a goddess. And as such, she was still powerful enough to push Auriel back.

"What’s wrong, Auriel? Are you not going to play with me? It has been such a long time since I last got to walk around like this. Aren’t you going to entertain me?"

Minerva’s voice was teasing as she continued to push Auriel back.

The older goddess seemed to be having fun, and the influence of dark magic made her even more destructive than usual.

Auriel had to bite her lip to prevent herself from being pushed back any further. But she could feel that she was slipping.

’This is bad! At this rate, I might get bored of you and go seek out other entertainment.’

Minerva yawned, almost as if she wanted to taunt Auriel. But Auriel had more than enough patience to not fall for her trick.

Instead, she concentrated on gathering her divine power and spreading a safety net around herself and the area.

As much as Auriel wanted to focus on her fight against Minerva, there were a few more problems around that prevented her from doing so.

And one of those problems was the dark miasma that was spreading from this altar to other regions.

It would not be a big problem in small doses, but prolonged exposure to this aura could cause humans a lot of health troubles. In most cases, those humans might never open their eyes again.

That was what Auriel sought to protect, and Minerva knew it at this point as well.

But the older goddess was uncaring toward these humans, who were the source of her power. If anything, the amusement in her eyes scared Auriel.

"Entertain me more, Auriel. Let me use my powers more. It has been such a long time that I am afraid I forgot how to use them."

Minerva spoke but then snapped her fingers, and the ground wobbled beneath Auriel’s feet.

Using her powers, Auriel was able to float in the air and dodge—just in time for the ground to split open and a bony hand to reach for her ankle.

Auriel took out her staff and hit the bones heading for her ankle. It caused the hand to collapse in seconds, but Minerva used this time to close the gap between herself and Auriel.

Once Auriel had taken care of the bony hand holding her ankle, she finally turned around to face Minerva. But she instantly had to lean back out of the way because Minerva’s hand was reaching out to grab her arm instead.

The distance between Minerva’s hand and Auriel’s arm was a fraction of an inch, and that made Auriel’s skin crawl with static electricity.

She had felt the dark magic touch her skin, and it made her feel sick. She looked at Minerva, who appeared on the verge of laughter.

"What’s so funny about all this? Aren’t you a goddess who is benevolent to your people? You do realize that you will kill a lot of your own followers if you allow the dark magic to spread like this?"

Auriel asked, trying to buy even more time by distracting the older goddess.

Of course, Minerva knew that as well. But she allowed herself to be distracted by Auriel.

"Ah, this is adorable! Are you worried about my followers, Auriel? Hmm, but I would rather not have you worry about them. You see, this is what my followers wanted—for me to be free and myself."

Minerva was fully corrupted by dark energy, and she no longer seemed to be herself. That was the only reason Auriel could think of to explain her words.

The real Minerva had expended herself to give her followers the best she could. She had even almost died as a result of it. There was no way that goddess would say something like this.

’But even if I know this, what can I do? As long as Minerva is connected to that dark magic, I cannot touch her. In that case, should I go after the summoner?’

Truly, going after Lila and capturing her would be better for Auriel. That way, Minerva would lose a good chunk of her power and be forced to retreat.

And if everything worked out, the heavenly realm would be able to find out what was happening in that amount of time and help Auriel out...

’Oh god! Please let this happen soon! I don’t think I can take it for much longer.’

Auriel continued to move swiftly, dodging and weaving through Minerva’s relentless attacks. She was not trying to fight back.

Not yet.

She was simply trying to buy time, forcing Minerva to chase her across the battlefield while assessing the situation.

But as the minutes dragged on, Auriel could tell that the older goddess was beginning to lose interest.

"You are testing my patience, Auriel. Is this really all you’re going to show me? I might fall asleep at this rate. Come on! Show me your rage! Show me how you like to fight your enemies. Consider me as one of the people you have to get rid of!"

Minerva had always been playful, but there was only so much she could tolerate before she grew bored. And right now, she was clearly losing patience.

The older goddess stopped playing around and hovered in her place for a few seconds. Her eyes looked bored and a little lifeless as she looked at Auriel.

"You’re just running around, Auriel. You haven’t even tried to fight back. This isn’t fun anymore"

Minerva sighed dramatically, her glowing red eyes narrowing in disappointment.
