God of Systems: Maker of Heroes and Villains -
Chapter 273 - 273: Treacherous Waters
Almost a week later, Keith looked at his pistol with a disappointed look on his face. He used his own imagination along with trial and error to get it to finally work, but it wasn't really a practical firearm anymore.
He looked at the magazine that used a latch mechanism to stay attached to the gun, one that was complicated to take off and attach, making the whole point of making a pistol redundant.
"Things would have been better if I knew how a pistol was actually created." he muttered to himself and tossed the pistol onto the ground with a sigh.
He then turned to look at the eight revolvers that he had acquired until now through multiple sources and shook his head, "Switching to a revolver is much more effective compared to changing this weird thing's magazine."
With a deep sigh, he gave up on making a pistol and instead, focused on something simpler. With a wide grin, he started working on it and reshaped the pistol along with a little bit more iron to make a long barrel with spiraling inner groves.
This one also took him a lot of tests and broken arms, but unlike the pistol the project was completed in just three hours.
Once he was done with it, he took a good look.
It had a long barrel and a small wooden base in the middle like a shotgun. There was no "trigger" and instead, there was a hole for Keith to put his finger in.
With a wide grin, he grabbed his "Sniper" and got into position before aiming straight at the sky. Hot white flames shot out of his finger which was inside the hole and traveled up to hit the custom bullet that he had created just for this sniper.
Keith waited for two seconds and all of a sudden, with an extremely loud bang, the bullet flew forward while Keith took a step back with a huge grin on his face.
"Great, but I can do better. Two seconds waiting time is a bit much and this way of shooting the bullet isn't really reliable…" he muttered as he looked at the part that had turned red due to the heat.
Even though he wanted to continue with his goal of making a sniper, he shook his head and decided against it as he had to prioritize the creation of a ship first.
As such, he let out a soft sigh and went back to the monotonous job of melting ore, which only lasted for two hours before he gave up once again. It was just too boring.
"Oh well, fuck it." he muttered and opened up his system screen before sending a message to Juliet.
[Get ready for another raid. We're gonna hit all the warehouses that have iron. You have two hours to prepare and here's the list of the locations.]
Just as he was about to send her the list of locations, he heard her say, "I know where they are and I guess two hours is enough to prepare."
He then saw her send out almost thirty shadows and smiled while nodding to himself.
'Yeah, she's been on this continent for centuries. Makes sense that she got most of the info on the back of her head.' he thought as he shifted his attention to the iron ingots that he already had.
A little more than one thousand tonnes in weight and this was more than enough to start building the ship.
He got to work and used his hot white flames to melt all of the iron before shaping it into a hull. This did take some time as he had to wait for the hot iron to cool down naturally, so while he waited, he shifted his attention slightly towards Juliet and Ken's robbery.
Everything went smoothly thanks to their synergy as a team and all Keith had to do was to teleport all the stuff that they touched, into his spatial dimension.
He watched as a huge pile of iron ore and iron ingots formed right behind him and he did not hesitate to use the ingots to continue with the building of the ship.
Compared to melting iron, this was way less "boring" and Keith went on with it even though he was building it using a simple concept.
Building the ship's structure took around six hours and most of this time was consumed by the small details such as cabins, storage rooms and the multiple gears that he wanted built in so he could increase the speed of the ship by using his undead summoning.
While the building of the ship alone, took just six to seven hours, it was only when he watched it cool down that he understood the problem. There were multiple bends due to the temperature difference that was a result of irregular cooling.
Thicker parts of the ship were hotter than the thinner parts and this caused multiple problems, rendering the ship useless at the end of the day. Keith also saw small spots where rust formed and let out a sigh.
"I feel dumb. Iron obviously rusts but how do I turn it into steel… I need carbon but how the fuck am I supposed to mix both?" he asked himself as he regretted not researching about the process of steel making in his previous life.
'Hey system, can you help me out?'
[Affirmative.]
[You can use command the carbon to infuse into the steel as long as you're inside your Spatial Dimension. The easiest way to acquire carbon, is to use charcoal.]
Keith stared at the system screen with disbelief, "That's it?"
[Yes.]
Keith was still in a disbelief, but he nodded.
'Okay, how much charcoal will I need to turn all this iron into steel?' he asked as he pointed at the weird looking ship.
[Calculating.]
[Carbon concentration to turn iron into steel required for ships is 0.2%]
[Pure carbon content needed = 10 tonnes]
[Based on the data, the most common tree, when turned into charcoal has 80% carbon content.]
[Based on this, the amount of charcoal needed will be 12.5 tonnes]
[The tree required for this task is the hard thorns tree. It has an average of 8 meters in length and 1 meter in width. It also has a high density.]
[Calculating the number of trees needed.]
[Three trees.]
"Alright, thanks." Keith said and nodded to himself as he sent Ken out to get the wood.
There was no need to cut the trees as Ken just placed his hand on them and Keith directly brought them into his spatial dimension.
Just in case, he got himself 10 huge trees instead of just three since he had a lot more iron just resting behind him. He knew that the journey was going to be long, which was all the more a reason to get himself something that he could do in his free time, which was basically the whole day.
Or at least, that's what he thought.
He suddenly felt the connection with his undeads get cut off and took a look at what was going on outside and saw a huge school of fish that were just made of bones.
They circled around the boat for a few minutes before dispersing since Keith's body was in his spatial dimension. And since he didn't know much about these fish, he waited for a few more minutes before leaving his spatial dimension.
He looked around and summoned more undead before going back into his spatial dimension. Then, he silently watched for twenty minutes until he saw the bone fish starting to circle around the boat.
At first, it was just one, but as time passed more and more joined. Then, as if they had all come to a collective decision, they pounced on all four of the zombies, pushing them into the water and eating their rotten bodies in less than a second.
Keith sent out a system seed into one of them and gave out a mental command.
'Show me it's status screen. It's breed and how they hunt and stuff.'
[Affirmative]
[Status Screen]
Species Name: Unconfirmed
Behaviour:
They roam in the waters independently to find pray and once they do, they sent out a signal through the water using mental energy to bring their group towards them.
Once they have enough fish in the group, they attack their prey and consume them almost instantly. Their maximum jumping distance is three meters. Everything they eat is absorbed by their bones to form tumors, which break once they're big enough to form more fish.
"Three meters…" Keith muttered and knew that unless he finished making a ship, it would be hard to continue on this journey.
But he still had an alternative. Even before the school of fish left, he popped up onto the boat and used his latest awakened ability that he had gotten from Gerald; The Ethereal Psychokinesis.
A huge translucent ship appeared right beside the boat and Keith jumped onto it right after sending the boat into his spatial dimension.
With a grin, he looked down at the fish and flicked them off before walking towards the front of the ship. Huge sails opened up and the ship began to move slightly diagonally but Keith didn't mind it for now.
He looked down at the fishes that had given up and were swimming away and sighed, "As long as I'm away from these thing's territory, I'll be happy."
He shook his head and looked at the ship, wondering how he could modify it even though he knew, that this was just the start of the terrors that he would find in these treacherous waters.
