God of Systems: Maker of Heroes and Villains -
Chapter 266 - 266: Who Is Emma?
"And who said I need a weapon?" Barou said as he rushed forward and sent his fist flying towards Keith.
Keith's left hand was currently cut in two and was healing at a quick pace, but it wasn't fast enough to heal completely before Barou got close.
"Welp." Keith muttered as he grabbed his sword tightly and slashed diagonally, drawing a bright orange arc as an arc of fire flew forward, which was directly punched through by his opponent.
"It's a pity that we're not fighting to death." Keith said as he too dashed forward to meet Barou, but all of a sudden Barou jumped up into the air and sent a kick flying, "Why?"
Keith simply stopped in his tracks and the sweeping mid-air kick missed him entirely as it flew right in front of his face with just a few inches in between.
"Cuz if I take my flame output to another level, then you'll just become a dried piece of meat in seconds." Keith said as he took a look at his boosted awakened ability, which was flame control and manipulation.
It still had the same name, but he could now create and control flames that were extremely hot. Hot enough to evaporate water in the surroundings without even touching the objects.
"Alright Barou." Keith said as he saw him land on the ground, "I'm going all out so, please survive. I don't want the whole empire behind me for killing the first prince."
"You're that confident?" Barou asked, looking pretty shocked as he stared at Keith while the flames emitted by the sword turned blue, and then white. He could see the air distort and he could also feel the heat being emitted by the sword.
He frowned as he took a few steps back, "You said that you weren't going to use it…"
"I said that it's a pity that we're not fighting to death. Never said that I wouldn't use it. You see, the longer we fight, the lower my chances get so yeah, I gotta end this early you know? Wanna give up?"
Barou's eyes travelled from Keith to the blazing sword before he sighed, "Man, I was having so much fun. Is that sword even needed… like we're not really fighting to kill each other right?"
"Give up or not?" Keith asked as he raised his sword, "I'll tell you once you give me an answer."
"….." Barou silently stared at Keith for a bit and then nodded, "Fine. I give up, but give me back my axe."
Keith nodded and with a snap of his fingers, the war axe appeared in front of him while his sword disappeared.
He gave the axe back to Barou as he spoke, "I just wanted to show you that you won't be able to beat me if I went all out. Actually, even if you fight for an entire day with an army and come at me after you get extremely strong, I'll still be able to beat you but that's something you'll only see if you actually go against me. Just giving you a head's up, that's all."
"…. Why are you telling me this? Like… you could have just kept it a secret you know? And probably kill me if I ever did that."
Keith said nothing as he looked up at Barou. Instead, he stretched leisurely and then let out a grunt before relaxing slightly.
"Cuz I want you on my side. I respect you but I also pity your current circumstances. I don't exactly want to kill you so I'm just trying to minimise the chances of that happening. So yeah, don't try to fight me or I will kill. In return, I'll turn a blind eye to you as long as you don't try to hurt my family."
Barou blinked twice before giving him a look of confusion, "Huh? You have a family?"
"Two wives and one daughter." Keith said and nodded but Barou shook his head.
"Nah, that's two lovers and one adopted daughter. Not really a proper family now, is it? On top of that, you never got that child registered as your daughter so we can't even consider her as one."
Hearing this, Keith frowned, "I agree with the lovers part but I did register Miya's name as my daughter."
"Well, it hasn't been updated in the royal records really. Looks like someone meddled with the files somewhere." Barou said as he scratched the back of his head before adding, "I read the files a few days ago so yeah, recent news. When did you even get her registered though?"
"Almost an year ago…" Keith frowned as he began to walk towards the palace gates, "Thanks for the info by the way."
"You're welcome!" Barou screamed before he too began to walk back to the palace to get some rest and for some time to think.
A few meters away, behind a thick tree, Mathew stood hidden as he heard both of their footsteps getting further and further away.
'… So Barou doesn't really want to fight for the throne. And he's going it just because mother wants him to.' he thought as he clenched his jaw.
'Just why is mother like this… should I just…' he thought as tears began to roll down his eyes, 'Well, she never really treated me like her son.'
While Mathew struggled to make a difficult decision, Keith walked towards the gates silently with an emotionless gaze as he got his system out.
'Search the history of the people who were responsible for the registration of Miya as my adopted daughter. Once you find any anomaly, show it to me.'
[Affirmative]
[Scanning database for people who were involved…]
[Ding! Results show 184 people.]
[Scanning anomalies in the history of the 184 people.]
This time, the scan took almost ten whole minutes before a huge list popped up in front of him.
Keith silently went through it all and sighed, "Oh well, just a case of bad management and stuff. I guess I'll go talk to Mathew about this tomorrow." he muttered and teleported himself directly in front of Clara, making her jump up in fright.
"Oh, it's a pity that I'm late huh?" he said as he grabbed her by the waist and looked at the bath towel that she was wearing currently.
"Maybe a little." Clara smirked as she looped her arms around his next, "Let me dry my hair first. It feels heavy when it wet."
Keith nodded and let her go before he jumped onto the bed and let out a sigh, "Why is life so exhausting… I just wanted to take things slow and easy…"
"Is there something wrong?" Clara asked as she grabbed another towel from the wardrobe and tossed it over her head.
Keith nodded silently before he turned to look at her, "There's something I want to talk to you about, but we need Amelia here first. I guess by now, the second awakening should be done."
"Well, it's been way more than a day so yeah. But is it something important?"
"Very." Keith said and nodded as he grabbed a piece of jerky from the bowl beside the bed as he looked into his spatial dimension before bringing both Miya and Amelia to his room.
Miya felt the change in the intensity of light that passed through the cloth that was covering her eyes and turned her head to left and right.
"Papa?"
"Yeah, I'm here." Keith said as he held her hand and pulled her closer so he could untie the cloth that was covering her eyes.
While he did this, she placed her small palm on his arm, "Papa, I feel weird…"
"Hmm? Tell me about it. It's probably related to your awakening so now you're just like papa. Super strong!" Keith said as he acted excitedly, making her grin while he did so.
Once he took off the cloth, he turned to look at Amelia and raised his eyebrow while smirking at her.
"Thanks." she said as she turned her hear around, "I think I'm a bit too strong? How can one human even have this much power?"
"Sometimes… even that power will feel lacking when a someone who is stronger than gods comes over to destroy everyone and everything you love." Keith said seriously before he turned to look at Miya and smiled.
He then ruffled her hair as he checked her status information.
Name: Miya Zenister
Physique: Grade E
Genetic Physique Type: Endurance
Awakening Status: Awakened
Awakened Ability:
The World's Child: User can communicate with the world itself and can receive help in various forms.
'Huh?' Keith thought as he stared at the system screen in confusion.
[Heh, what a surprise.]
Keith looked at the new screen that had popped up in front of him, but then he heard Miya say something that shocked him completely.
"Papa, who is Emma?"
"Huh?" Keith voiced out loud before realising what was going on, "Wait, you can talk to Emma?"
"Uhh…" Miya said and then paused for a few seconds before nodding, "Is this Emma good? She is telling me that I should call her mommy."
Keith shook his head, "Nah, just call her Emma. She's not your mommy." he said and glared at the system screen in front of him, 'Stop causing trouble, you damn… ugh.'
[Heheh, you should look at Amelia's face lmaooo]
Seeing this, Keith looked up to see Amelia glaring at him and this level of anger was something he had only see her direct towards his old boss Brandon.
"I guess there's some explanation in order. Just sit down and we'll talk." Keith said calmly as he brought out a chair from his spatial dimension.
