Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime -
Chapter 1320
Chapter 1320: Chapter 1320
Jane McCain stayed at home for an entire day.
She didn’t do much, just slept, spaced out, and after eating, she’d sit on the sofa for half a day without moving, lost in thought.
The next day, she got up as usual, dressed up, and went out to work.
"Aren’t you going to take a few days off?" Zara Jameson asked.
Jane shook her head, "My mom told me to pay more attention to company matters before she left. I didn’t go yesterday afternoon and a lot of stuff has piled up. I have to go in today to handle it."
"Alright then," Zara said, "I’ll come to find you after you get off work, and we can go shopping together."
"I’m not in the mood..." Jane slowly changed her shoes at the entrance, "You should go home. Don’t let me delay your thesis because you’re keeping me company... I just don’t feel like doing anything right now."
Zara replied, "It’s no big deal, I brought my laptop. I can write here at your place too."
Jane was silent for a moment, then said, "I think you should go home... Although I’m happy you and Ryan Wesley could come to keep me company, I don’t want to eat your couple’s dog food."
Zara: "..."
After a moment of speechlessness, Zara said, "Then you can eat more of it, it might help you regain your confidence in love if you’re full."
Jane opened the door and walked out, waving her hand with her back to Zara, "I’ve had indigestion lately."
She closed the door, and the sound of her high heels on the floor echoed as they grew fainter and more distant.
Inside, Zara chuckled softly and said, "You’re heartless."
After laughing, she thought of Jane’s unfortunate romantic history and couldn’t help but shake her head and sigh.
...
At the company, when there’s work to do, time always passes exceptionally fast, and people tend to be relatively calm.
However, when there’s nothing to do, many things weighing on her heart, many thoughts, crawl out like bugs from dark corners, one after another, taking up space in her mind, either gnawing at her painfully or buzzing annoyingly.
Jane sat at her desk, unwittingly spacing out again for quite some time.
When she came back to her senses, she was stunned, completely unable to remember how long her mind had been blank.
She pressed the phone button on her desk and asked the assistant, "Lisa, has anyone asked for me?"
"No, isn’t it that they all need to make an appointment beforehand?" The assistant uncertainly asked over the phone, "Did you have an appointment with someone today?"
Jane said, "No need, I was just asking casually."
"Uh... are you sure? You’ve already asked me three times today..."
"No need!" Jane inexplicably irritated, cut off the call.
She didn’t want to see anyone.
She had no expectations.
No, none!
Casually grabbing a ruined design draft beside her, she crumpled it into a ball and violently threw it away in frustration.
Though she repeatedly warned herself not to think about it, thoughts twisted and tangled uncontrollably—will he still remember her in the future? He could remember Luna Tucker for over a decade, but what about with her? How long would he remember?
Will he forget her in the blink of an eye?
At this thought, Jane would tear up with her heart clenched, struggling to breathe.
This feeling was unbearable.
Love is like addictive opium; losing it suddenly leads to intense suffering, and when enduring becomes impossible, she even thought of putting aside all pride and dignity to call him and beg.
Even if Ruby Spencer called her a failure, she was willing to accept it!
But when she really picked up the phone, reason returned, and she hesitated and wavered...
Jane McCain, don’t let yourself live like a beggar.
...
At four o’clock, with some time before getting off work, Jane had just finished a meeting and returned to her office.
Before entering the office, her assistant outside gave her a very bright smile.
Jane found it baffling.
In a bad mood, even with someone smiling at her, she had no energy to respond.
However, upon entering the office, she was surprised to find Allen Rivera sitting inside!
"What are you doing here?" Jane was shocked, then two seconds later, she belatedly asked, "How did you get in?!"
