Chapter 1191: Chapter 1191: Sigh_1
Cherry’s cheek had a ferocious wound, created by a bite from a sharp tooth that then tore the flesh as it scraped.
The bleeding had already stopped, but the wound was still vividly red and bursting open. Nathaniel stitched it up with surgical sutures, pulling at the muscles near the mouth so that Cherry’s voice was muffled when she spoke.
After the stitching came the application of medicine, followed by bandaging, nearly submerging half of her face in gauze.
Nathaniel was by no means a professional, and even though he had learned some emergency trauma treatment techniques during their life on the run, his stitching was far from delicate. Such a wound would certainly require multiple cosmetic surgeries to repair once it had healed.
After managing the wound on her face, Nathaniel moved on to treat the injury on Cherry’s leg, and other scrapes on her body that needed medicating.
Purple Summers took a deep breath, stepped closer, and said, "You don’t need to hassle them; that dog was brought here by me, it has nothing to do with them. You can vent all your anger on me."
Cherry turned her face away, refusing to look at Purple Summers, and stubbornly repeated, "I want to kill them all."
Purple Summers bit her lip and glared at Cherry.
She knew this kid was deliberately opposing her because she had run away, which led to the dog biting her. She wanted to make the consequences crystal clear to Purple Summers in the most direct way possible!
The feeling of being held at one’s vulnerable point was stifling to the extreme!
Should she beg the kid in a low voice?
Or should she sit back, ignore it all, and let her go on a killing spree in the village?
Purple Summers’s chest heaved violently, and she said sternly with a tight voice, "Once you’ve killed them all, how do you plan to handle the aftermath? Do you think the police are fools? If they trace it back to you, none of you can escape!"
Cherry’s gaze wavered slightly; she didn’t want to cause trouble for Nathaniel.
But after glancing at Purple Summers, Cherry didn’t want to back down and snorted coldly, "I don’t care, I just want to kill them all."
Purple Summers’s face turned red with anger: "You! ..."
Cherry: "Hmph!"
After Nathaniel finished wrapping the gauze and tied it off, he said indifferently, "Indeed, killing them would be troublesome. If you really can’t contain your anger, you could make them pay compensation—perhaps 75 thousand should be about right."
Cherry was reluctant: "We don’t need the money."
They had earned quite a bit while working for Jeremy Jennings before, and it was all hard cash.
Nathaniel said, "We can’t stay here much longer. We’re about to move to a new place soon. Having a bit more money is always good, just in case."
After hearing this, Cherry said awkwardly, "Can they even afford it?"
"Don’t think they’re poor just because they live in the village. The dog that bit you is a purebred Mongolian Mastiff; even an average one costs at least 15 thousand." Nathaniel patted her head. "If it wasn’t for the little ghost blocking it, not only your face but even biting through your skull would have been easy."
Cherry shivered, her complexion turning even paler.
She was afraid of dogs, extremely so.
"But... what if they don’t want to pay the compensation? What then?" Cherry asked again.
Nathaniel looked at Purple Summers with a faint smile, "We have a lawyer here, don’t we? Let her do the negotiation. If they don’t want to pay, then you can still kill them later."
Purple Summers abruptly lifted her head to look at Nathaniel, biting her lower lip hard.
...
The next day, Nathaniel wasn’t at home. He had been leaving early each day, with no certainty about when he’d return.
Ever since Purple Summers had gotten up, Cherry had been urging her to go to the other family’s house to demand compensation, or else threats of murder lingered in the air, of killing everyone.
Purple Summers took paper and pen, writing something on the table.
Cherry asked what she was writing.
"A draft of the settlement agreement." Purple Summers didn’t look at her and continued on with her work. After finishing a few lines, she clearly wrote "300,000" at the end.
Cherry couldn’t read, but Nathaniel had taught her Arabic numerals.
She exclaimed, "300 thousand is too little, demand 500 thousand!"
Purple Summers paused with her pen, said nothing, crossed out the number, and rewrote "500,000".
