Chapter 1176: Chapter 1176: Searching and Searching Ah_1

Alexander Summers held the knife in his hand, stripping away the binding willow branches, his gaze inching from the blade to the hilt...

"You must strike right at the chest," Mr. Ghost Hayes whispered, "about at the chest-center acupoint."

Alexander looked over.

His deep eyes were frosty and biting, the black pupils tinged with the light of blood, like a beast, like a devil.

Mr. Ghost Hayes shuddered and lowered his head.

If they couldn’t find Purple Summers, couldn’t find that ghost... however formidable this knife was, it was utterly useless.

The world is vast, and even confined to Kingsley City, hiding a person in an obscure corner is far too easy.

Otherwise, Atra Blanc wouldn’t have only been found by now.

The modern era indeed has advanced, with surveillance cameras everywhere, bank statements traceable in minutes, phones that can be located, and identities connected nationwide—but at the same time, the fake has been steadily on the rise.

False license plates, false identities, false accounts, even false faces, are all enough to confuse and deceive.

Perhaps they’ll find Purple tomorrow, but perhaps it will be a month, two months... half a year...

—Would she never come back?

Fear unspeakable surged in Alexander’s heart.

Even during the time Atra Blanc went missing, he had never felt such trepidation, because no matter how detestable Clyde Summers was, at least he doted on Atra, but Nathaniel Summers...

Nathaniel was inscrutable in his intentions.

...

When Purple Summers woke up, she lay on a huge, soft bed.

She didn’t get up right away but opened her eyes and surveyed her surroundings quietly.

The room was large but felt crowded, as it was filled with numerous dolls and stuffed toys—on the carpet, the table, the cabinets, everywhere you looked.

Besides the dolls, there were many scattered drawing papers and colored pencils on the floor; the scribbles were messy, like the work of kindergarten children.

This was clearly a child’s bedroom.

Purple tried to sit up; she had regained some strength and then noticed her feet were shackled with fetters, connected by a half-meter length of heavy iron chain.

Such shackles didn’t hinder walking, but running was definitely out of question.

Her hands, however, were free of any restraints.

Her hands were free.

Why hadn’t they shackled her hands as well?

Was it a momentary act of mercy, or were they certain she couldn’t escape?

Pondering, Purple turned to look at the window, eager to draw back the curtains and see where she was.

As she got out of bed, the iron chain on the shackles made a clanging noise.

Purple paused.

She wondered if such a noise would alarm her captors outside.

With this concern, she didn’t rush her actions but sat on the edge of the bed and listened intently for any sound from outside the room.

Children’s running footsteps could be heard from outside.

Pitter-patter, pitter-patter...

A little girl’s laughter came through, clear and joyous.

Purple heard her say, "Let me taste it! Hurry up and let me have a taste!"

The voice grew closer, and the door opened—

Unsurprisingly, she saw Nathaniel Summers at the doorway.

His gaze slightly downcast as he stood beside the little girl, her face beaming with innocence and joy.

Looking further behind, she couldn’t see that nurse.

...Was she already dead?

Purple’s heart clenched suddenly.

Nathaniel approached with a tray and placed it on the table beside the bed—the tray had food for two, seemingly simple but nutritionally balanced.

The little girl happily savored a bowl of steamed egg with shrimp.

Seeing Purple motionless, she looked at her with wide-eyed curiosity, "Why aren’t you eating? It’s not poisoned, and it tastes really good."

Purple watched them coldly, not hiding the alertness and repulsion in her eyes.

How could she possibly sit down and have lunch calmly with these two?

Had she gone mad?

Nathaniel spoke indifferently, "You’re so weak, how can you recuperate without eating? Don’t you want to escape from here?"

Purple inhaled slowly and asked him, "Nathaniel, what exactly have you raised?"
