Chapter 1169: Chapter 1169 Scum_1
What a joke, this is childbirth!
It’s raw, bloody, completely devoid of aesthetic beauty – childbirth! Perhaps philosophers and literati can perceive the sanctity of life being born, but Purple Summers couldn’t!
She couldn’t spread her legs wide open in front of others, letting the whole process be exposed right under their scrutinizing eyes!
Even with her most intimate lover, she just couldn’t do it!
Call her conservative, or say she harbored prejudices against the female body, either way, she just couldn’t do it!
It felt too shameful!
Even now, lying on the delivery bed, letting the nurse help her dilate bit by bit, her face was flushed red.
Oh God... once is enough for this ordeal, she never wanted to give birth again.
Why must women endure such pain?
Purple’s eyes welled up with tears.
...
Childbirth was excruciating, and the taste of it was indescribable. Purple didn’t want to look back at it. But after successfully giving birth to two little boys, the term "woman" seemed to take on a different meaning in her mind.
One baby weighed 4.8 jin, and the other only 4.3 jin. Purple only got a glance before the nurse took them to the incubator.
After feeling an enormous sense of relief, a massive wave of fatigue swept over her, and Purple fell asleep from exhaustion before she could properly savor the feeling of becoming a mother.
She didn’t sleep very deeply, as she soon felt someone lift her onto a stretcher and push her out of the delivery room.
The wheels of the stretcher screeched intermittently against the floor, and the moving air brushed across her cheeks, cool and refreshing.
Purple felt that all her senses were intact, she was keenly aware of everything around her, but her eyelids refused to open.
She was exhausted.
In her ears, she heard Alexander’s and Atra’s muffled voices, low as if not to wake her: "Could the nurse have mixed them up? Why are both of them boys?"
Atra, finding it both funny and embarrassing, replied: "What are you thinking? At this time there’s only Purple in the delivery room, and she’s the only one who had twins. How could they be mixed up?"
Alexander was still hung up on it: "But why boys..."
As if all these months of anticipation had been in vain.
Purple cursed in her mind: Jerk.
After cursing, she felt it wasn’t enough, and in her heart, she switched to another term: Scum.
Then she heard Atra trying to console him: "Boys are good, they’ll grow up and protect their mother. How adorable."
Alexander scoffed: "Isn’t my protection good enough?"
Purple was so angry she wanted to jump up from the bed and yank his ear. What the hell are you showing off for?!
Atra laughed softly, gently tapping Alexander, "You’re a father now; you need to start acting like one."
Alexander replied indifferently, "I don’t know what a father should be like."
That comment must have struck a chord with Atra, as Purple didn’t hear her voice anymore.
When Alexander grew sensible, Old Master Summers was already past sixty, either seated in a wheelchair or lying in bed. Their relationship never developed father-son bonds, it was more like grandfather and grandson.
...
Once in the ward, Alexander stayed to accompany Purple, while Atra went home.
It had just passed four o’clock, Atra needed to hurry back to cook porridge, so that Purple would have something to eat when she woke up.
In fact, Alexander had already hired a nutritionist, but she hadn’t been much use, mostly assisting Atra.
Purple, groggy, listened to the distant and fading voices of the mother and son talking, until the world around her became peaceful, and she fell asleep.
She slept deeply, without dreaming.
When she woke up, she felt much more relaxed and her energy had somewhat returned.
She opened her eyes and turned her head to see Alexander sprawled at the side of her bed, his thick black hair a mess from being pressed down, a stubble covering his jawline overnight, and his shirt all wrinkled...
He looked like a sloppy ghost.
Purple lifted her hand and brushed her fingers through his hair, feeling inexplicably at peace.
No matter what happened, it was wonderful to open her eyes and see him there.
