Chapter 1155: Chapter 1155 Never Get Enough of Playing_1
Nathaniel Summers looked at Cherry, "Stop making trouble."
"I’m not," she said with a bright smile.
Nathaniel Summers remained silent.
A moment later, he sat down by the bed, lit a cigarette for himself, inhaled to his lungs, and exhaled a thin, swirling mist.
She crawled over, clinging to his shoulder, her hand trying to grasp the smoke in the air, amusing herself with a touch of boredom.
"Last time you slipped up, Alexander Summers won’t be unprepared." After a long while, Nathaniel Summers spoke, "You are very smart, but people are not as easy to deal with as you think, and if something goes wrong again, you may not get off scot-free."
Flicking off the ash, Nathaniel Summers said, "When you’ve had enough fun, I’ll take you back to the village."
The hand on his shoulder suddenly tightened, the nails digging deep into his flesh.
Nathaniel Summers frowned slightly and glanced down, but said nothing.
"I’ve not had enough fun, I’ll never have enough fun!" The little girl’s eyes were dark and fierce as she spoke.
Yet Nathaniel Summers smiled gently, pulling her hand away, and then patted her head, "But I can no longer afford to keep you, Cherry."
Ghosts are too greedy; they only want more and more.
Raising a ghost was meant to facilitate one’s own affairs, but now, with the direction skewed, Nathaniel Summers could no longer tame it.
He got up and left, closing the door behind him.
The little girl on the bed watched the door silently, surrounded by a profound silence. After a long while, she murmured to herself, "I can take care of you... "
...
The next morning, Nathaniel Summers awoke.
Upon opening his eyes, he did not immediately get out of bed but lay there quietly looking at the ceiling, pondering the day ahead and when it would all end.
... Utterly tasteless.
As usual, he got up, dressed, washed up, and passed by Cherry’s room on his way downstairs; the door was wide open.
Nathaniel Summers took a look.
Slippers scattered here and there, the blankets piled in disarray, no one on the bed.
Nathaniel Summers walked in, stood in the empty room for a long while, in silence.
"Acting up again," he said softly, almost like a sigh, "When will you ever learn... "
After some thought, still unable to set his mind at ease, Nathaniel Summers sighed softly, packed his bags, and prepared to leave.
He dragged his leather suitcase, walking slowly out of the front gate.
The security guards and servants of the Summers Family had all been replaced, and the security guard didn’t recognize him, mistaking him for the second young lady’s friend, unconcerned.
He had barely taken ten steps away from the Summers household when hurried footsteps sounded from behind.
Nathaniel Summers stopped and turned to see Laura Summers rushing towards him.
Laura Summers ran up to him, too hurried to catch her breath, and asked, "... Uncle, where are you going?"
Nathaniel Summers raised his eyebrows slightly, watching her quietly.
Laura Summers pursed her lips. Where was Nathaniel Summers going, and why would he tell her?
Not willing to give up, she asked again, "Will you come back?"
Nathaniel Summers smiled, "That wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?"
He was a fugitive. Staying in the Summers house, if his whereabouts were exposed, would endanger Laura Summers and Yolanda Summers.
Besides, he never intended to consider the Summers Family his permanent residence.
Laura Summers’s eyes reddened, knowing that Nathaniel Summers couldn’t stay forever, but his presence even for one more day made the house seem like it wasn’t completely falling apart.
"How could it have come to this?" Laura Summers murmured, "Why has our family become like this..."
"Indeed," Nathaniel Summers looked up at the high walls of the expansive house, his smile faint, "Unknowingly, it has come to this."
The influential Summers Family of Clearwater had weathered many changes over the past decade, and now only two young women struggled to keep it afloat.
Nathaniel Summers looked down, his gaze landing on Laura Summers in front of him. In just three years, she had changed dramatically, from a willful and spoiled young lady to a director in the company who could stand on her own...
"If things get too tough at the company, find a good man and get married soon," Nathaniel Summers said to her, then, carrying his suitcase, he walked away.
Despite not saying anything overly sentimental, Laura Summers felt a piercing sadness.
She really wanted to cry.
