Chapter 1145 Judge Your Honor_1

Chapter 1145: Chapter 1145 Judge Your Honor_1

The judge massaged his temples with a headache.

A dog... and a victim’s family...

Is this really not a joke?

"Your Honor, my client is willing to plead guilty," the defense lawyer emphasized again, "Considering the judicial economy, I think we can move directly to sentencing now."

"I refuse," Purple Summers didn’t hesitate, "We wish to proceed with a court hearing."

The judge asked irritably, "If the defendant has already pled guilty, is there really a need to hear the case?"

Purple Summers replied, "Your Honor, the defense wants to move directly to sentencing because the defense lawyer believes you would not sentence the defendant to jail time. Of course, even if you do, I would fully understand. However, I believe that once you fully understand the facts of the case, you might make a different decision."

The judge, massaging his forehead with a pained expression, frowned and said, "I am already aware of the facts. The fact is, the defendant killed a dog and has pled guilty. Do we really need to waste time on this?"

The lawyer said coolly from the side, "The prosecutor’s aim in wanting a court hearing is merely to gain the jury’s sympathy and to put pressure on the judge with public opinion in order to receive a more favorable sentencing."

"Your Honor, the defense lawyer is questioning your professional integrity," Purple Summers quickly retorted, "A qualified judge will uphold the justice of the law and will not be influenced by any emotional public sentiment. I believe you are both a qualified and excellent judge."

"" The judge was speechless, he sighed, "Thank you for your compliment, Ms. Simonson. Now please come to my office."

Purple Summers followed the judge to his office.

Once in the office, the judge loosened his collar and sat behind his desk with a weary posture, He picked up his cup for a drink only to find that the water had gone cold.

His mood worsened, and he sighed again as he stood up and walked over to the water dispenser to get hot water.

"Ms. Simonson, your father is a decent man. He has made it to where he is today with caution and prudence, and even before becoming the president, the efforts he made for the judicial field are there for all to see," the judge said, speaking calmly as he waited for the hot water.

"But I consider your actions today to be very unwise."

"Yes, Your Honor," replied Purple Summers.

The judge glanced at her and let out a slight sigh.

After a moment, the water was ready; he took a cup, leisurely returned to his seat, and sat down.

"Do you know how many cases I have to handle from this position?" the judge asked her. "Adultery, murder, robbery, abuse, drug trafficking... Last year, the courts of Kingsley City handled over eleven thousand cases in total. Did you know that the scheduling for many cases is already pushed into next year? And now, for the sake of a dog, you want a court hearing, Ms. Simonson. I really hope you will think about this seriously."

Purple Summers pursed her lips, her tone sincere, "Your Honor, I promise I won’t take up too much time, I’ll keep it as brief as possible. I really need this opportunity."

The judge fell silent, seemingly in contemplation or hesitation.

After a while, he asked Purple Summers, "You’re still an intern, aren’t you?"

"Yes, Your Honor."

"Do you plan to become a prosecutor in the future?"

"Yes."

"Do you know that during your internship, all your performance is recorded and will be considered during your final evaluation upon graduation?"

Purple Summers inhaled slowly, then hung her head. "Yes, I know."

The judge sighed and said, "You might lose the qualification to become a prosecutor because of this case. Even so, are you still going to insist?"

Purple Summers’s eyes widened slightly.

To be honest, she hadn’t thought that far ahead... She had just, just when things came to this point, habitually wanted to fight a bit harder, just in case she succeeded.

People always need to have some hope, right?
