Chapter 1139: Husband_1

Chapter 1139: Chapter 1139: Husband_1

With just five minutes left until the end of the workday, Purple Summers couldn’t wait any longer. Her face displayed both joy and apology as she said to her colleagues, "Something came up at home, can I leave early?"

Naturally, her boss didn’t make it difficult for her and let her go immediately.

Upon leaving the Prosecutor’s Office and getting into her car, Purple Summers saw the hunched-over figure again. The old man’s silvery white hair was particularly striking in the sunlight, and instead of the old cardboard box, he now held a photograph.

Purple Summers thought it must be a picture of that dog.

This thought skimmed through her mind, gone in the blink of an eye, replaced by everything related to Atra Blanc.

It had been such a long time since they had seen each other, and she couldn’t wait to meet Atra Blanc, to see if she was doing well, to see if she still remembered her.

Finally, the long-awaited moment to return home arrived, and Purple Summers, holding her belly, rushed into the house. She quickly scanned the surroundings, only catching sight of Alexander Summers.

"Where’s Mom?" Purple Summers looked left and right.

"She’s in the kitchen." Alexander came over, cupped her face, and kissed her, "You didn’t even give a proper look at your own husband when he came back. Purple, you’re getting quite bold."

Purple Summers didn’t have time to play around with him and tugged at his hand, "Why did you have mom go to the kitchen as soon as we got back? Hurry up and call her out; let her rest!"

"She found out you’re pregnant and insisted on stewing porridge for you herself." Alexander smiled and whispered in her ear, "I heard it’s a secret recipe passed down through the Blanc family, if you drink it every day, not only will the baby be beautiful, but the mother will be prettier than before, too."

Purple Summers nodded again and again, "Yes, yes, I want to drink it!"

As she turned to head to the kitchen, Alexander blocked her way, "Carrying such a big ball, just stay put."

Pregnant women aren’t as nimble as they used to be, so she obediently sat with Alexander in the dining room to wait.

Aunt Taylor had prepared many dishes today, making the dining table very rich. But because Atra Blanc was there, Purple Summers was even more eager for her mother’s cooking.

After waiting for quite a while, Atra Blanc finally came out with the porridge. If Alexander hadn’t grabbed Purple Summers promptly, she probably would have dashed over carelessly.

"Mom!" Purple Summers called out joyously, her voice crisp and loud.

Seeing Purple Summers, Atra Blanc was both surprised and delighted, her gaze resting on her protruding belly and not moving away for a long time, she muttered, "Alexander told me you’re carrying twins?"

Purple Summers felt somewhat embarrassed, "Mhm."

Putting down the bowl of porridge she was holding, Atra Blanc looked at Purple Summers’s belly with extraordinary emotion, "Oh dear... I really have no recollection - when did you two get married?"

Purple Summers glanced at Alexander and replied, "Last year, around August or September."

"Is that so, as you get older, the memory gets worse and worse." Atra Blanc laughed and pushed the porridge toward Purple Summers, "Drink it while it’s hot."

Purple Summers said, "Mom isn’t old at all, you look just like my sister!"

Atra Blanc chuckled softly. Even though she knew it was just her daughter flattering her, it made her very happy.

Purple Summers took a sip of porridge. The taste was soft and refreshing without the odd flavour of traditional medicine materials, instead, there was a hint of fruitiness.

"Delicious!" Purple Summers’s eyes narrowed in enjoyment.

"Tastes good, huh." Atra Blanc said with a smile, "But no matter how tasty it is, you can’t drink too much - just one bowl a day at most."

As she spoke, she seemed to remember something and added, "Pair it with a little bit of blueberry jam for a better taste."

She turned her head out of habit and called out, "Husband, could you bring over some of our homemade blueberry jam?"

No one answered after she finished speaking.

Atra Blanc froze.

The dining room fell silent, and Purple Summers, clutching her spoon, hesitated before looking towards Alexander—

Alexander’s face was ashen.

After a moment, Atra Blanc came back to her senses and touched her own cheek with a smile, "How strange... why would I say something like that..."

Alexander drew a sharp breath and abruptly stood up and left without a word.

Purple Summers silently pulled out a few tissues and wiped Atra Blanc’s cheeks.

Atra Blanc asked in confusion, "Purple, why are you touching my face?"

Purple Summers felt a sharp twist in her heart.

Mom, I’m wiping away your tears...
