Chapter 1137: Chapter 1137 Internship_1

Christopher Simonson racked his brain over Purple Summers’s situation.

Going through the back door can be a minor or a major issue.

In trivial terms, it’s just a small favor from others; but in grave terms, it amounts to using one’s position for personal gain.

The president, of all people, should restrain himself and lead by example, but he simply couldn’t stand by and do nothing as he watched his daughter’s belly grow bigger day by day.

He managed to arrange her internship locally and asked the prosecutor in the same office to take extra care of her, ensuring at the very least that her workstation was far from the printer.

There were three other students interning alongside Purple Summers at the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Together they shared the departmental clerical work, accompanied prosecutors to court, and either observed or took notes. These were tasks that Purple Summers had already mastered and found quite easy.

Around noon, close to the end of lunchtime, Inspector Julian Shaw came over to see Purple Summers.

The Shaw and Simonson families were somewhat acquainted, and knowing that Purple Summers was interning there, Julian Shaw made a special trip to check on her, a gesture of care from a senior.

He was a senior prosecutor, appearing to be in his mid-thirties, with a handsome, resolute face and bright eyes. As he walked in, everyone called out in unison, "Inspector Shaw."

Julian Shaw smiled at everyone and walked over to where Purple Summers was sitting, asking with a grin, "How is it? Are you getting used to the work?"

Purple Summers nodded, "Yeah, it’s okay."

"How about we have lunch together?" Julian Shaw suggested, "I’m more familiar with this area than you are; I’ll take you to a good restaurant to try something new."

Purple Summers agreed with a smile.

They left the Prosecutor’s Office together; it was the peak lunch hour, and quite a few people were coming and going, some to the cafeteria within the office, others outside.

Julian Shaw remarked, "The nearby restaurants are too oily; you shouldn’t eat just anything since you’re pregnant. I’ll take you to Lee’s Private Kitchen. It’s clean there, and the food is good."

"Thank you, Inspector Shaw," Purple Summers responded.

Julian Shaw laughed, "Let’s drop the formalities once we’re outside, it feels too distant!"

Purple Summers readily complied, "Thank you, Uncle Shaw."

As they stepped outside, Purple Summers’s bodyguard emerged from the car. She asked Julian Shaw, "Uncle Shaw, is the place we’re eating far away?"

"Not far, just around the corner. We can walk there. Let’s have your bodyguard join us," he suggested.

If that was the case, there was no need to drive.

As they talked, an elderly woman wearing worn clothes approached, clutching a cardboard box, and stopped a passing prosecutor.

Purple Summers didn’t catch what they were saying, but it looked as though the old lady was pleading, and the prosecutor, troubled, shook his head.

The persistent old woman stopped another young prosecutor.

Purple Summers felt pity for the elderly lady and couldn’t help but give her a second glance.

Julian Shaw saw the lady as well and sighed, "Poor old lady. Her husband died early, and she has no children. She only had a little dog, which was killed by someone a while ago. She’s been coming to us for days because of this matter."

"Hasn’t anyone helped her?" Purple Summers couldn’t help asking, "Couldn’t a lawsuit for compensation be filed?"

Julian Shaw shook his head, "Our country doesn’t have laws protecting pets yet. For compensation, only Property Law could be used, but the perpetrator has confessed and made a compensation of 75 dollars, so that’s that."

Purple Summers fell silent upon hearing this.

She knew the current laws well; if the dog had been a valuable breed, perhaps the compensation could have been higher. But judging by the dress of the old woman, she likely didn’t own a purebred.

...75 dollars seemed meager, but that was the harsh reality, and nothing could be done about it.

Purple Summers felt uneasy in her heart. She pursed her lips, bowed her head, and continued walking with Julian Shaw, brushing past the old woman.

The private restaurant Julian Shaw recommended wasn’t far and had a refined atmosphere.

Perhaps because prosecutors are often busy, Julian Shaw ate quickly, and Purple Summers, not wanting to linger unnecessarily, hurriedly took a few bites without taking the time to savor the taste of each dish.

As they headed back to the Prosecutor’s Office, they once again encountered the old lady on the road, hunchbacked and standing in the shadow of a wall corner, still clutching the cardboard box.

Recognizing the badge on Julian Shaw’s chest, the old woman immediately approached them—
