Chapter 1113: Chapter 1113: Arrangement_1
The Black Rose case had been putting a lot of pressure on the Kingsley Police Department.
The police force was limited, yet the killer could send roses indefinitely.
The more people that needed protection, the more officers that were required to be deployed, which meant the department had to reallocate personnel from other divisions.
However, Kingsley City was not dealing with just this one case; if all the police focus were on the Black Rose case, it would affect the normal operations of the judicial institution.
Eventually, the decision was to gather the women who had received roses in one hotel, where just a few officers could take turns on duty, guarding the hallways and elevators, to ensure maximum security.
This method seemed foolproof on the surface, but it was not easy to implement in reality.
Firstly, not every woman who received a rose was willing to move in, as it was akin to a form of detention that no one could stand for a prolonged period.
Secondly, the duration of protection was an issue. One week? One month? Half a year? If the killer did not act, should the police keep guarding indefinitely?
The police department had thought about using female officers disguised as the rose recipients to wander the streets in waiting, but the killer never showed up.
The prosecutor had also considered using Purple Summers as bait, but it was tough to get approval from the higher-ups, given Purple Summers’ distinct status and her pregnancy. Should anything go wrong, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Now that Purple Summers had volunteered to cooperate, it was nothing but great news for the police.
Purple Summers followed the prosecutor and moved into the hotel.
The hotel had five floors in total. The bottom four operated as usual, but the top floor was controlled by the police. As soon as the elevator doors opened, one could see two officers positioned to the left and right and another on the watch by the window.
As Purple Summers walked down the corridor, the doors of the rooms were all open. The girls gathered inside, talking softly. When they heard footsteps, they turned their heads. On seeing Purple Summers, they all showed a look of astonishment.
Purple Summers frowned slightly but continued forward in silence.
Yet in her heart, terrifying waves churned!
...What was going on?
Those women, why did they all seem to bear some resemblance to her? Some had similar eyes, some hair, and some figures...
This feeling was hair-raising, sending shivers down her spine.
She turned to the prosecutor beside her and questioned, "Do you all know?"
The prosecutor nodded apologetically, "Mr. President requested the news be sealed."
Indeed, the killer’s targets all looked similar to the president’s daughter. If this got out, who knew what kind of media storm it would stir up...
Purple Summers, suppressing her alarm, reached her own room.
It was located at the end of the hallway. As she pushed open the door and scanned the room, it looked no different from the others, a standard room with two beds, but the furnishings were more luxurious than in other rooms, which seemed normal considering the occupant was the president’s daughter.
"There’s an infrared alarm at the door," the prosecutor showed Purple Summers the switch and pointed above, "If someone breaks in, it will trigger the alarm, and the mechanism up there will activate immediately."
Purple Summers looked up to see a square metal cage hanging above the door. Such an installation clearly wasn’t from the police station, but she had seen something similar in the vaults of casinos.
"What if they avoid it?" asked Purple Summers.
"When the alarm is triggered, shots will be fired continuously from the front, left, and right towards this spot. The chances of avoiding it are less than 0.1%," explained the prosecutor.
The prosecutor pointed out, and only then did Purple Summers notice the gun-like mechanisms hidden in three directions. She exclaimed in surprise, "What if there’s a misfire?"
What if the person entering the room wasn’t the criminal?
"It’s a tranquilizer gun, it won’t cause harm to the human body," the prosecutor said, stepping aside to lead her inside, "Your accommodations are this way..."
A wall with a brand-new, luxurious TV setup, which appeared decorative at first glance, slid open automatically when pushed along the edge, revealing a special room inside.
