Chapter 1607: Chapter 1168: She Said the Sunshine Is Warm

Everyone knows that the Star Progeny Master is attempting to upgrade the Light Disaster, but no one knows when he will succeed.

What are the conditions for upgrading the Light Disaster? How long will it take? What kind of ceremony is required? No one has any clue. The only thing known is what Ange once said: someone threw something into the sun, triggering the Light Disaster.

For Anthony and the others, Ange’s words are a Divine Oracle that cannot be wrong. But Ange never said: what exactly did the Star Progeny Master throw into the sun?

This led to another question. Anthony asked, "Is he trying to use the Light Disaster to wipe out humanity, or is he wiping out humanity to upgrade the Light Disaster?"

"What difference does it make? Isn’t it all about exterminating humanity?" Negris asked, puzzled.

"It’s a huge difference. If the Star Progeny Master is unleashing the Light Disaster to annihilate humanity, then why? Incremental harvest. He raised this many humans for the sake of harvest. But what’s the purpose of harvesting incremental growth? Naturally, it’s not to trigger the Light Disaster. So why does he need such a large increment?"

"We need to figure out his true goal. If it’s not for a major increment, he could completely wait for people to die naturally. With tens of billions in the Divine Light Alliance, tens of millions naturally die every year. He could just wait decades. Why destroy it all at once?"

"It must be because a monumental event is coming, one so urgent that he can’t even wait for decades, needing to harvest all the increment at once. What kind of monumental event could it be?" Anthony asked.

Negris replied, "Who the hell knows what monumental event is coming? The biggest thing happening around here in recent years is us..."

At this point, Negris exchanged a thoughtful look with Anthony. "Could he be harvesting increment to deal with us?"

Anthony said, "That’s possible, but it’s probably not ’us,’ but Gemez Fortress (pu)."

When Anthony reached the last part, he even enunciated clearly to prevent any misunderstanding.

"You mean the Star Progeny Master mistakenly thought we are from Gemez Fortress and is preemptively harvesting increment to deal with us?" Negris started to understand.

To be honest, their sudden emergence with immense power did invoke suspicion. But suspicion alone wouldn’t justify triggering the Light Disaster to harvest increment. The Divine Light Alliance is something he cultivated for tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of years.

But Gemez Fortress is different. That’s a known existence on par with Ancient Godlight. Even though it’s far away, it has the ability to use special methods to project at least two Star Gods here.

The arrival of the Star Gods signified that Gemez Fortress’s tendrils had already reached here. What the Star Progeny Master didn’t expect was that these tendrils ended up being seized by Ange.

But no matter what, the misunderstanding was already there. Compared to the enigmatic Ange group, the Star Progeny Master was more worried about Gemez Fortress, prompting him to hurry and harvest the increment to strengthen his power.

It’s akin to converting all assets into cash before the arrival of war—carrying it with you for flexibility.

"It’s also possible that the Star Gods of Gemez Fortress might have the ability to harvest increment too. Maybe he’s afraid the Proliferators will be snatched first." Anthony speculated.

As they chatted, they waited, until Silver Coin finally returned. "I’ve asked, the Sand Bay Plane is the place most severely affected. Ordinary people there can no longer step out of the shade. Exposed to sunlight for three minutes, and they’ll die from sunburn."

Though the Light Disaster had intensified, by how much, and its impact on each plane, these were still unclear and in need of assessment.

This phenomenon has a critical threshold. It doesn’t mean that doubling the intensity will double the mortality rate within a plane. Sometimes, even if it increases seven- or eightfold, the lives of ordinary people won’t be significantly affected. But once it hits 8.01x, a sudden ecological collapse begins, leading to mass deaths.

Moreover, since most planes are under the protection of the Trees of Life, the impact won’t manifest significantly in the short term. Hence, they had to find a ’neutral’ plane to properly evaluate the consequences of the Light Disaster.

"Doesn’t the Sand Bay Plane have a World Tree?" Negris asked.

"It does, but the Sand Bay is filled with sand and seawater—concentrated saltwater where people can’t even sink. Such an environment is inhospitable for plant growth, leaving the World Tree no life force to thrive. The World Tree there has now shrunk down into an Oasis, taking the form of a date palm to shelter a few thousand locals." Silver Coin explained.

"Only a few thousand residents? Why not relocate them? Isn’t it a waste of the World Tree?" Negris commented.

"They fled there to escape. There are no taxes, no nobles, and the land isn’t under anyone’s rule. There used to be date palms growing, and near the beaches, there’s an abundance of natural crystal salt. Relying on the dates and salt, their lives are even wealthier than the average person on most planes." Silver Coin explained.

In comparison to taxation and land enslavement, a harsh environment seemed trivial. Without the Light Disaster, the place could even be considered idyllic.

Even thieves wouldn’t bother robbing such places. Salt, being a bulk commodity, wasn’t suitable for theft. Transporting it would barely yield any profit, and thieves certainly wouldn’t endure the hardships for so little gain.

However, after the Light Disaster, everything changed. Large swathes of date palms withered. If it weren’t for the timely planting of the World Tree, preserving a single Oasis, the inhabitants would likely have all been scorched to death by the Light Disaster.

But in such a barren land, where even grass struggles to grow, the World Tree was clearly malnourished.

In truth, if there were abundant life force, the World Tree could thrive in any environment. Moreover, the Trees of Life distributed by the Great Speaker were all saplings from the seeds of the Tree of Ten Thousand Realms, and their growth potential was limitless.

Unfortunately, with only a few thousand inhabitants, the meager life force was barely enough to sustain a single Oasis. It already demonstrated the saplings’ strong resilience.

"Let’s go over there and check out how much damage the Light Disaster has caused." With a quick call, the group began heading to join Ange.

But the Monarch waved his hand, "You all go ahead. I’ll patrol here instead."

He had just gained so many intelligent Undead citizens. Having been interrupted before even getting a proper look, he was now determined to inspect his new subjects thoroughly.

In both the Master Plane and the Star Burst Plane, the Monarch had always placed great importance on intelligent Undead, as they were the key to crossing into Chaos Black Crystal. Now suddenly having so many intelligent Undead under his command, he had no intention of wandering off.

The Monarch stayed, but unexpectedly, the Little Angel also remained. She stood still, wings outspread, gazing at the distant sun. Ever since the Light Disaster intensified, she had maintained this posture.

"Ow!" Ange called out.

The Little Angel finally snapped out of her daze and scampered over, flapping her wings in the void. Her posture resembled a little chick.

"Ow?" Ange asked softly.

"Ow ow!" the Little Angel responded.

Anthony couldn’t help nudging Negris. "What did she say?"

Negris translated, "She said the sunlight feels warm."
