Chapter 173: Chapter 185

"It seems that Sister Na has the final say on whether the salesgirls stay or go here. Angel, in the two months I’ve been working at the bar, I’ve never offended you, nor have I taken any business from you. I really need this job, and I won’t leave just because of something you said. Please don’t make things difficult for me."

An Ran really needed this job, because besides this place, she probably wouldn’t be able to find another job that paid so well. And the tuition fees for the next semester were urgently due. She tried to reason with Angel, thinking that people should always be reasonable.

Sure enough, Angel didn’t pester her any further. She gave An Ran a deep look, then turned around to continue selling her drinks.

An Ran secretly let out a sigh of relief. Here, she really didn’t want to make enemies with Angel. In other words, she didn’t want to make enemies with anyone. She just wanted to do this job peacefully and save up enough for her tuition fees.

After work, An Ran changed her clothes and left the bar with her backpack.

Ever since Lin Ruonan found her, she hadn’t gone back to stay at Mu Xingfeng’s place. It wasn’t appropriate to stay overnight at the bar either.

She had recently rented an attic in the nearby area. Although it wasn’t as good as Mu Xingfeng’s place, at least she had a place to stay at night. The main thing was that the rent was very cheap.

Since it was just for weekend living, she could make do.

It was already late autumn, and the nights were getting colder even in the south. An Ran tightened her coat and walked quickly towards her rental apartment.

To get to her apartment, she had to go through an alley. Usually, the streetlights on the alley walls would stay on all night. But for some reason tonight, several of the streetlights were out.

It was pitch black all around. The autumn wind blew, carrying a few dry leaves and some trash swirling around at her feet.

An Ran cursed under her breath. She didn’t know if it was her own fear, but she kept feeling like someone was following her. Yet every time she turned around, she couldn’t see a single shadow.

A ghost?

As soon as she thought of this word, An Ran’s hair on the back of her neck stood on end. She started to walk faster, then broke into a run...

"Thud, thud" — two muffled sounds. Two dark figures jumped out in front of her, causing An Ran to stop in fright and let out a scream.

"Oh my, Boss, this girl’s pretty timid," one of the figures snickered and said to the person next to him.

"Timid girls make it easier for us to cherish their tender beauty," another man’s voice came from behind. Only now did An Ran realize that there were indeed two people behind her. Her earlier suspicions were not just her imagination; someone had been following her.

"Who are you?" Now that she saw they were people, An Ran wasn’t as scared. She straightened her back and asked.

"Us?" The man who spoke first began walking towards her.

By the moonlight, An Ran could see the man in front of her. He appeared to be in his twenties, wearing a tattered denim outfit, with medium-length short hair, looking quite disreputable.

The other three were also closing in on her, step by step.

It was obvious that these guys were small-time gangsters. The man’s earlier words had already clued An Ran in on what they wanted to do. Feeling helpless, she could only step back, but within moments, she was cornered against the wall.

"No, don’t," An Ran cried out, her big eyes filled with fear. "Please let me go. You can have all the money I have on me."

She couldn’t think of anything else to do on such a night, facing four big men, except to beg.

"Young girl, you’ve offended someone you shouldn’t have. Begging us won’t help. We’re just doing this as a favor for someone. But running into such a fine catch as you is a bit of luck for us," the denim-outfitted youth said with a lewd smile.
