Chapter 72: Chapter 72: A Twist of Fate (8)
After Qiao Mo finished her shower, she discovered that his shadow was long gone from the room.
While drying her hair, she took two rounds in the living room, but there was not a trace of him anywhere.
Just then, she encountered a servant bringing up a late-night snack and asked softly, "Where’s Mr. Fu?"
"Mr. Fu went on a business trip and it seems he’ll be back in a little over a week."
Qiao Mo finally relaxed, surprised that he went on a business trip so late: "Could you inform Uncle Zhong for me? I’ll be staying at a friend’s house for a few days due to some matters."
"Well..." the servant hesitated.
Qiao Mo smiled faintly: "Uncle Zhong probably won’t refuse. After all, Mr. Fu never restricted my freedom."
"Alright, then I’ll go tell Uncle Zhong for you."
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before the servant returned with a reply, and Uncle Zhong indeed didn’t refuse.
However, Qiao Mo also knew that Uncle Zhong would definitely relay it truthfully if Fu Nancheng asked.
But she couldn’t worry about that now. Aunt Feng’s fate was uncertain, and Jing Hao had just escaped danger at his end; she was really worried.
Early the next morning, Qiao Mo rushed to the police station to inquire about the news.
"Officer Zhang, is there still no news about Aunt Feng?"
"We haven’t found any useful clues yet, but we’ve increased police presence in the nearby areas searching. We’ll do everything we can to find her."
Upon hearing this, Qiao Mo couldn’t relax.
Missing for many days, with no news, generally doesn’t lead to a good outcome.
Seemingly confirming her suspicions, Officer Zhang hesitated before speaking again: "We’ve visited Feng Lan’s neighbors and initially determined that she has been missing for at least seven days. Generally speaking, this has already missed the best time for searching and saving. We suggest you prepare yourself mentally."
Qiao Mo’s eyes reddened, forgetting to respond.
How could such a good person like Aunt Feng end up in trouble?
If something happened to her, what would Jing Hao do?
Having already informed Uncle Zhong, Qiao Mo stayed at the police station for a day and a night, sitting on the long bench in the corridor, looking a bit lost.
In between, Jiang Jinghao called twice as well, equally anxious.
But there was tight scheduling for flights from Xijing, and it wasn’t until early the next morning that he hurriedly arrived at the police station.
"Xiao Mo."
Jiang Jinghao saw a thin figure sitting on the long bench in the corridor from afar, his heart aching, and quickly walked forward.
Upon hearing the voice, Qiao Mo stood up from the bench. Due to having not slept, her eyes were bloodshot, and upon seeing Jiang Jinghao, her eyes welled up with tears, choking somewhat: "Jing Hao... Aunt Feng... there’s still no news of her."
Jiang Jinghao took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, gently gripping her cold little hand to comfort her: "She’ll be okay. She hasn’t attended our wedding yet, hasn’t held her grandchild yet, she definitely will be okay."
Qiao Mo’s eyes stung, and she turned to look at the man’s profile, wanting to speak but hesitated.
There were a few scratches on his face that had already scabbed over, leaving dark red marks, apparently from his time in Xijing.
"Xiao Mo?" Jiang Jinghao spoke softly.
Meeting his weary gaze, Qiao Mo’s heart ached.
If she mentioned breaking up at this time, it would be too cruel.
Perhaps, wait a few days to see Aunt Feng’s situation first. If Aunt Feng is out of danger, that would be best; if she remains without news, at least accompany him through these days...
It wouldn’t be too late to bring it up then.
