Chapter 94: If You Aren’t Happy With Her, Eat Her...
Sha Ling took the only turn off into the mountains so quickly that the chick who was currently sitting in his passenger’s seat slammed into the window. Her head bounced off the reinforced glass.
Oops.
It was always such a pain in the ass trying to find this fucking camp. He rolled his eyes as he heard the branches scratching his museum-quality truck. There needed to be a gate or something to let him know where to turn.
Fucking Alpha piece of shit. He thinks that he is such a big shot...
Alpha... his ass.
The... thing... whatever he was, he was nothing without him.
He was the one who brought the girls and fighters to the camp. He was the one who brought those with money and resources to camp, too.
Now that he was thinking about it, he really should be getting a bigger cut.
The chick moaned in pain but otherwise didn’t wake up.
It was probably a good thing. He didn’t dare give her any more sedative. If he wanted her knocked out again, he was going to have to do it the old fashioned way.
Sha Ling smiled at that idea and took his attention off the road in front of him long enough to check to see if she was moving.
Nope.
Fuck.
There went all his fun.
The road in front of him wasn’t really a road. It was a path through the trees big enough for a car to fit through, but no actual tire tracks to drive on.
It was bullshit. That was what it was. Pure and utter bullshit.
Who was Alpha trying to hide from? It’s not like the cops were going to care about a fight ring popping up. Fucks sake. Most cities have at least one going.
Sha Ling paused for a second. He hadn’t even seen a cop for the past five months. They lasted like a month after the attack and then poofed into thin air.
Seriously.
There were more military guys around than cops. Or at least guys dressing like military dudes.
The point was that there was no need for this super top secret bullshit that scratched his car every time he was here.
All of a sudden, the trees parted, showing off a giant sign to the right side of the car. "Welcome to Camp Helix."
It was one of those overnight summer camps that rich people sent their kids to to get rid of them for a while. He had never been to one, but he had watched enough movies about them to get a general gist of things.
Swimming, canoeing, serial killers, stalkers. This camp had everything.
Someone, probably a bored kid, had scratched out the ’ix’, and the sign now read: "Welcome to Camp Hel."
Fitting, given everything that happened in here.
Sha Ling found a place to park and turned off the car. Gas was beginning to be a bit of a bitch to find.
----
He didn’t have to wait long before the Alpha came out of one of the log cabins off to the side.
It was easy to see why he was the Alpha. The dude was over 7 feet tall and built like a brick shithouse. His black hair practically dripped with grease, and Sha Ling shuddered, the stench of rotten flesh pungent even at this distance.
If he was really looking, he would be able to see the chunk of flesh that was ripped out of his cheek, showing off the guy’s back teeth, gums, and muscles. But after the first time he had seen it, he tried never to look at it again.
The only thing worse was the flesh missing from his neck. That one looked like he had his throat ripped out and shouldn’t be alive anymore.
But what can you do? Monsters ruled the world now, and Sha Ling was nothing if not accommodating.
"Alpha!" he said, waving his hand. "I keep telling you that if you want to attract more patronage, you need to improve your looks. A shower and a suit would do wonders."
Sha Ling looked the Reaver up and down, paying attention to the black combat boots, black cargo pants, and black wife beater. Fuck... was that dog tags around his neck?
"What are you doing here?" growled the Alpha, the words hard to get out with the hole in his throat.
"I brought you another woman," smiled Sha Ling as he waved his hand to his truck.
"I don’t fucking need another woman, I have almost 50 of the bitches. I need fighters," sneered the Alpha, his voice getting stronger the more he spoke.
Sha Ling was pretty sure that the dude usually only spoke in grunts and head nods.
Letting out a long sigh, he looked down at the Alpha. "She is more than just a female. She is also a doctor. A two for one, if you think about it. You have a woman you can... use... and a doctor to heal the fighters so they don’t die as easily. Win-win... right?"
"Those that lose are meat. What is the point in healing them?" asked the Alpha, cocking his head to the side. Suddenly, he smiled, and Sha Ling no longer felt as confident as he had been a few seconds before.
The guy’s teeth looked like the zombie’s... all sharp and sharklike. He was like some sort of fucked up mix between a human and a zombie.
And was that a finger between his teeth? Ewe....
"The point would be to heal the winners, have them fight more, build up a following so that people will spend more money on them." Seriously. This was fighting 101... well, not the fighting part but the business side of it.
See, this dude couldn’t do anything without him.
"Look. Take the chick. Get her to look after your fighters. If you aren’t happy with her after a few months, eat her... or whatever you do."
Sha Ling was done with this shit. He still needed to try and find more fighters, but that was easier said than done. Especially now that there were zombie tides and other shit getting in the way of him making money.
"You’ll get half your price," sneered the Alpha. With a wave of his hand, another Reaver came out with a box of supplies and put it in the bed of the truck. "If she does what you say she can do, then you’ll get more."
