Chapter 170: Nothing

As soon as Rip patted his lap, Cheng Bo Jing let me go, and I raced toward the familiar man.

"Did you like your surprise?" he asked as I crawled into his lap. I nodded my head as I got comfortable.

"Great! Now that everyone is here, we can figure out what is going on next," said Li Dai Lu from where she sat across from me.

I blinked at her, not sure what she was talking about. The thing I had planned next was a long bath and then back to sleep.

"Zombie tides are still very much a thing," she started the conversation as she looked between me and my guys. The guys... not my guy... my old guys?

Never mind. The guys. She looked at the guys.

"Okay," nodded Ye Yao Zu from where he now stood behind me. "We kind of figured that much."

Li Dai Lu ignored him as she continued. "That means that there are really no safe places to be anymore. I know that City A is going to fall at some point in time... but whether or not it is caused by a zombie uprising or a human one, it’s still up for debate."

This time, when she paused for breath, no one interrupted her.

"I have a ranch just outside the city; Liu Wei has the directions written down for you. But if something does happen to the city, then you need to make your way there. Wang Chao’s sister should be in there with her husband. Her name is Wang Shu Lan. When you get there, make sure that you ask for her."

"And if someone stops us from talking to her?" asked Fan Teng Fei, raising an eyebrow. I mean, it is a good question. There was nothing saying that the people on the ranch even knew who we were, let alone would let us in.

"Just tell them that Li Dai Lu sent you. And if that doesn’t work, tell her that you know her little brother."

I looked at the man in question and couldn’t help but wonder if he was the little brother and how scary his big sister was?

I nodded my head in agreement, but I really couldn’t see myself living at a ranch with a bunch of strangers.

No, a tentative plan was forming in my head, but it would take a bit of work until I could set it in motion.

"I made it so that the ranch has the ability to completely withstand a zombie attack, so it should be the safest place in the world right now," continued Li Dai Lu as she never took her attention off of me.

I smiled at her and once again nodded, feeling like a chicken eating or something with how much my head went up and down.

She said that she could find me if needed, no matter where I was, and I would probably end up putting that theory to the test in the future.

Especially if she wanted me to deliver the twins.

However, before she could say whatever else she wanted to spill, Bai Long Qiang cut her off. "Why don’t you do it?" he asked, staring at her, his body practically vibrating. "You are supposed to be this big, bad whoever who controls zombies, so why don’t you get them to jump off a cliff and drown them?"

"Why the Hell would I do that?" she asked, cocking her head to the side, not in the least intimidated by him. The poor baby, there were only so many blows to his ego he could take before he lost his mind.

I had to admit that he had a point, but he really needed work on his delivery. Then again, he wasn’t used to not being the scariest person in a room, so I would give him some time to adjust.

It was kind of funny to watch. I had never seen that happen to someone from the Bai family. I would have recorded it for prosperity, but I was missing a working cellphone.

"To save the humans? I thought it was pretty obvious," he replied, looking around at his teammates, hoping that they would have supported him in that idea.

I understood from Bai Long Qiang’s point of view that if she went out and killed off all the zombies and saved the human race, then I would be safer. I would enjoy my life and not always be looking over my shoulder, worried about a tide or being eaten.

But humans needed to be weeded out, and nature always seemed to come up with a good way to make that happen.

"I like maybe a handful of people," she replied. "So, why would I want to save the humans? They got themselves into this mess; they can get themselves out of it.

"What?!? We are in the middle of a zombie apocalypse right now, and people are dying left, right, and center. As arguably one of the most powerful humans here, you have the responsibility to save everyone and kill all the zombies."

"There are so many problems with that statement; I don’t even know where to begin. First, the zombies didn’t ask to be created. They are the result of humans wanting to play God. Why should they be punished for humans fucking up? It’s like blaming Frankenstein’s monster for the scientists’ actions. And I don’t victim blame."

I had to admit, I agreed with where she was coming from... but zombies were created by humans? Was that the vaccine I was looking into before everything happened? Was that how the zombies were created?

Maybe if a vaccine made them, I could create something to turn them back... or find a way to stop it from continuing.

My mind went off in a new direction, and I stopped paying attention to the conversation around me until I was pulled back into it.

"What do you want me to do?" asked Li Dai Lu, her focus solely on me while she asked the question.

I opened my mouth only to close it again. She seemed to have a very particular picture of me painted in her head, and I was pretty sure that falling off of the pedestal she had me on would lead to more than just a few bruises.
