Chapter 1401: Chapter 733 Modification Method_3
...
"Quick, quick, quick, quick... we’re almost at the foot of the mountain. After we get down, we’ll split up and run. If one of us escapes, it’s a payoff; if two of us escape, we profit; if all three of us get away, we’re rich..."
"Remember, head straight into the dense forest. After running a distance, use the Shadow Cloak to hide. Never, never follow the Conqueror Path. The opponent is a Conqueror, and this path is full of his spies. As soon as we step on it, we might be spotted."
"If caught, don’t resist. Hand over the Cloud Manta Egg obediently to save your life. The one who escapes, don’t go to any of our previous contact points to prevent getting traced. Hide for two years, then talk about it after things settle. The one who gets caught can only blame his bad luck."
The trio of thieves stuffed the Cloud Manta Egg into the Life-Sustaining Dimensional Bag and, without pausing, leaped straight down from Giant Peak.
Of course, they weren’t suicidal; they had long prepared their escape gear. After free-falling for a while, their limbs instantly spread into a large X shape, and thin skin wings unfolded under their ribs and between their legs. It was clearly a gliding suit.
While gliding rapidly in the air, they quickly discussed their strategy.
Their focus was no longer on their victim, the Cloud Manta, but on the owner of the Flying Dragon Flock, who was suspected to be a powerful Conqueror.
The opponent was likely after the same goal, the Cloud Manta Egg.
Their actions now were akin to snatching food from a tiger’s mouth.
But once the meat is in your mouth, there’s no question of spitting it out.
As for the risk?
The profession of a thief dances with risk every day. Every action is like walking a tightrope.
If they didn’t have enough of a gambling spirit, how would they dare, just having stepped into the realm of the Transcendent, to set their sights on the Cloud Manta and plot for its egg?
As the ultimate saying among thieves goes, the world’s most skillful thief is not the one with the greatest strength, but the one who never gets caught.
"I underestimated you guys a bit; you even got yourselves gliding suits. May I ask where you got them from? I’ve never seen them in the market before,"
A fourth voice sounded beside the three thieves, a pair of giant Dragon Wings spread, gliding along with them.
The trio of thieves felt their heads heat up, unable to suppress a curse in their hearts.
When did the opponent catch up? How did they do it?
They were confident in their gliding speed, aided by the fall and wind speed, which was quite remarkable.
Moreover, their route wasn’t fixed; it was completely determined by the rise and fall of the mountain, making interception more difficult and hard to anticipate.
But the opponent was right beside them, an undeniable fact.
The Half-Elf Thief leading them shouted, "Split up!"
After saying this, his figure veered to the side, directly exiting the formation, intending to fly over the ridge to the other side.
The other two thieves understood and also flew in different directions.
Their tactic was simple. They were three, and the pursuer was only one.
No matter whom the opponent chose to pursue, the chances for the other two to escape would greatly increase. The one being targeted would have to accept their bad luck.
"Without my permission, you’re not going anywhere. Come back to me."
It couldn’t be said they weren’t quick-witted, and their strategy wasn’t ingenious.
But their opponent was not an ordinary person, possessing methods beyond their imagination.
Before they’d even glided far, they felt an invisible great hand in the air yanking them back with ease, adjusting their bearings.
Gliding differs from flying; they had no power source. Even if the membranes under their arms resembled wing membranes, they dared not flail. Doing so would only send them crashing down from the sky.
They only dared to slightly adjust their posture, influencing the membrane shape and gliding by leveraging external forces.
This naturally made them susceptible to external influence, and such mild pulling didn’t require much force to control their directions easily.
This didn’t even qualify as Psychic Power, but was a Mage’s beginner trick, Mage Hand, freely usable by many powerful Mages.
After several attempts to break free from this control, the Half-Elf Thief swiftly pleaded, "Conqueror Sir, we’re willing to return the Cloud Manta Egg. Please forgive our reckless actions. We truly didn’t know you had also targeted the Cloud Manta."
This person was indeed shrewd, knowledgeable in cutting losses in time, voluntarily admitting mistakes. Returning the Cloud Manta Egg was way better than having everything taken away once caught.
As long as their lives and equipment remained intact, even if this mission was a failure, they could regroup and try again.
"Oh? How did you discern my identity?" Gaven curiously asked.
"That War Ravager of yours, such a gigantic Warhammer; I’m afraid it’s the only one in all of Felen," the Half-Elf Thief replied truthfully.
"I see, thank you for clarifying. The rest, we’ll discuss on solid ground," Gaven offered no further assurances.
"Alright," the Half-Elf Thief agreed readily, simultaneously telling his two companions, "You two, don’t act rashly. Obey the Conqueror’s orders. He isn’t a cruel man and won’t harm us for our minor infractions."
Rather than persuading his companions, it seemed he was ingratiating Gaven, seeking a way out for himself.
For, at this point, they could only pin their hopes on the opponent’s whims.
"Understood," the other two thieves responded in unison.
It’s uncertain if the Half-Elf Thief held enough sway over them, or if the Flying Dragon Flock closing in had enough deterrence.
The trio of thieves cooperated obediently with Gaven, gliding down into a mountain ravine.
