Chapter 534: Chapter 532 Jungle Hut
The following days were mundane yet busy.
Richard spent most of his time engrossed in his research lab.
His study on the incorporation of molybdenum into magic materials had initially shown some promise, but it soon sank into a quagmire. Richard had to step up his workload and strive to clear his thoughts in an attempt to emerge from the mire and achieve success.
In the midst of his busyness, a month had passed since Mu’en left.
This meant that Mu’en was back.
...
That night,
In the courtyard where Richard lived,
Mu’en, who had just evaded a crisis and returned, met with Richard for the first time.
Although Mu’en had been away from Florence for an entire month, he had not completely let go during this time. Ensuring his own safety first, he had still been invisibly controlling his network of informants through indirect means. Therefore, there were quite a few gains to report to Richard.
"Lord Richard, from what I have learned, after the big fire in Rotten Pine Alley, many wizard organizations have been stirring. Not just the major wizard organizations within Florence — Deep Blue Castle, Death Valley, Rose City, Black Evil Castle, White Mist City, Rotten Swamp, Jungle Hut, Tree Mushroom Forest, but also some smaller organizations — Dead Soul Tower, Silent Graveyard, Rest Town, Ais Church, Three-Eyed God Sect, etc. In other words, the incident in Rotten Pine Alley has more complex implications than we initially thought.
According to some information from my subordinates, it seems that a southern wizard organization known as White Stone Tower is extending its influence here and starting to contact various wizard organizations, big and small. The details of what they’re up to are not yet clear and require further investigation."
"White Stone Tower?" Richard’s eyes flashed as the scene of White Stone City’s destruction quickly came to mind. The fact that people from White Stone Tower had made it here indicated that some of their wizards had retained their power through the catastrophe — this, in a way, confirmed the veracity of what Princess Rose of Black Holy Mountain Kingdom had said. However, what intentions did the people from White Stone Tower have in contacting so many wizard organizations? It probably wasn’t to rebuild White Stone Tower. That meant...
"Yes, White Stone Tower," Mu’en interrupted, halting Richard’s thoughts from expanding further.
Richard looked at Mu’en, his eyebrows twitched, and he said, "Since that’s the case, you continue your investigation. Remember to keep it discreet and to avoid any conflicts."
"Got it," Mu’en nodded, then seemed to recall something and added, "By the way, regarding that Arson Organization, we’ve made some progress this month as well. I know you asked me to halt the investigation into them, and I did. However, my people have spotted them several times in a place known as ’Gray Bell Town’ while carrying out other tasks.
From what we’ve gathered, they seem to be connected to the secret of the Black Spirit Empire, the other matter you asked me to look into. Nevertheless, they only stayed for a while before leaving. The exact details, I’m not too sure."
"’Gray Bell Town’?" Richard’s eyes flashed again. He had never heard this name before. Previously, he had killed a member of the Mysterious Organization that had been following Mu’en, and from that person’s Space Iron Ring, he had extracted some information about the Black Spirit Empire, which mentioned a place, but it wasn’t ’Gray Bell Town,’ rather ’Death Breath Mountain.’ He wondered if there was any connection between the two places.
"What about it?" Mu’en looked over and asked, "Lord Richard, do you want me to continue the investigation?"
"Keep investigating. However, given what happened last time, you must be even more careful not to get discovered," Richard said.
"Yes," Mu’en nodded and solemnly replied, "Last time was an accident. I’ve learned my lesson, and I’ll be more careful this time. I’m certain they won’t notice me. And even if they do, I have a more thorough plan to deal with it."
"That’s good."
"Then if there’s nothing else, may I take my leave?" Mu’en asked.
Richard pursed his lips, looked at Mu’en, and said, "Wait a moment."
"What is it?"
"I just wanted to ask one last question before you go. Have you found any leads on the girl named Heidi who carries a cat around with her?"
"That— " Mu’en hesitated, then shook his head candidly, "We’ve sent people, expended effort, spent money, but after searching both inside and outside Florence City, we found no trace of her. Lord Richard, if I may speak frankly, it’s quite possible she’s somewhere outside of Florence."
"Then keep looking. Try to expand the search range until you find her."
"Well... okay."
"Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Mu’en left quickly, and Richard gazed into the night sky for a long while, sighed, then turned back to his room and entered Eden.
Finding the Cat Slave Girl Heidi was out of his control. He could only do his best and leave the rest to fate.
...
At the same time, in the southwestern direction from Florence, within a dense jungle,
A figure darted among the numerous trees in the night, seemingly in a hurry, and soon arrived at a clearing in the forest. Here stood a large number of wooden huts and wooden towers, which looked quite imposing.
The darting figure stopped in front of a three-storied wooden tower, knocked on the door, and called out, "I’m back!"
With a creak, the door opened, and out came a girl holding a black cat in her arms. Who else could it be but the Cat Slave Girl, Heidi?
Heidi glanced at the figure outside the door, at first stunned, then cried out in a bit of surprise, "Narlyd, you’re finally back! You’ve been gone for so many days. I was worried something had happened to you."
"There was a little incident," Narlyd admitted. "But I’ve dealt with it, so don’t worry. Anyway, let’s not talk about that now. Where’s the teacher?"
"The teacher... " Mentioning the teacher, Heidi couldn’t help but shrink her neck and said timidly, "She’s upstairs. Uh... you’ve been gone for so many days, she seems a bit angry, so... when you see her, be very careful."
"I will be," Narlyd replied, nodding without showing much fear, and continued into the building. Suddenly, as if remembering something, she stopped, took out the "Star Night Meditation Hat" from her bosom, and placed it on Heidi’s head.
"What’s this?" Heidi was puzzled.
"It’s a magic tool the teacher asked me to buy for you from the outside. It will help you with your meditation, so you can practice," Narlyd explained.
Heidi’s eyes widened, and a realization struck her, "Is that why you left, Narlyd? For this?"
"Pretty much," Narlyd said. "Alright, I have to go see the teacher now. Hopefully, I won’t get hit too hard." With these words, Narlyd walked into the wooden tower.
Heidi watched Narlyd’s back, opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately remained silent. Touching the Meditation Hat on her head, she wore a complex expression.
