Chapter 531: Chapter 529: Fainting at the Turn
A night had passed, and dawn broke.
On the fourth morning since Narlyd had left, Richard still hadn’t seen a trace of her, nor had he received any messages. He felt there was a high chance she had failed.
Thinking this, he opened the courtyard door.
Outside, sunlight streamed in, incredibly bright. In the midst of the light, dust danced like golden sand, and from this "golden sand," Narlyd appeared, holding a chest with a proud expression on her face.
Richard was startled and looked at Narlyd with genuine surprise, "Did you really find the Molybdenite... no, the Gray Moonstone?"
"Of course," Narlyd wore a tired look, but her tone was filled with irrepressible swagger and pride. "I told you, I am a responsible person, don’t underestimate me. Since you saved my life once, I vowed to repay you with a favor in kind. Indeed, the Gray Moonstone was hard to find, but with some effort, I managed to bring you back this whole chest. Check it for yourself."
As she spoke, Narlyd approached the yard, thumped the chest down with a "thud," and quickly opened it.
Richard looked inside the chest, saw various-sized stones, picked up one, and carefully examined it and nodded, "This is indeed what I need; it seems your capability is greater than I thought. Now you owe me nothing."
"Phew—"
Hearing Richard’s words, Narlyd visibly relaxed, "It’s good not to owe you anymore; now I can leave in peace and return to the Jungle Hut. Besides my teacher, others are waiting for me there. I’ve been gone so long, she must be anxious."
Richard waved his hand, "Then farewell, and Godspeed."
"Alright, goodbye." Narlyd waved grandly and turned to walk out the door.
Then—
"Bang!"
With a dull thud, under Richard’s surprised gaze, just a few meters from the doorway, Narlyd’s body went limp and she unexpectedly fell face first to the ground, motionless.
This—
Richard raised his eyebrows, "This way of saying goodbye is a bit too special."
Thinking this, he did not hesitate and quickly walked over to Narlyd’s side, squatting down to check her condition.
He pulled back her eyelid, and her pupils contracted when exposed to light. Her breathing was present, albeit faint. Her heart rate was slightly low but still within an acceptable range. It seemed like a mild coma, not too severe.
That brought up the question, what caused the coma?
Soon, Richard’s gaze fell on Narlyd’s clothing, where he saw a charred hole on the back, as if something very hot had hit her.
With a "rip," Richard tore the hole wider and saw a large patch of ominous black mark on Narlyd’s back, terribly dark, and continuously spreading to the surrounding area, already covering most of her back.
This was...
Richard narrowed his eyes.
...
Darkness, darkness, darkness... light!
Narlyd’s dormant consciousness suddenly revived, and she slowly opened her eyes, looking around.
She saw that she was lying on a bed, surrounded by unfamiliar decor, in a place she had never been before.
Where was this? How had she suddenly ended up here? What had happened before?
Narlyd couldn’t help frowning, trying to recall.
Hmm, she remembered: she had spent all night shaking off the annoying folks from the mine and Deep Blue Castle, and by morning, finally arrived with the Gray Moonstone at the doorstep of the man to whom she owed a favor. She had seen him open the door, so she unhesitatingly walked into the yard and showed him the Gray Moonstone, hearing him personally declare her debt repaid. Thus, she had left with ease... and then fainted.
Wait, fainted?
Why did she faint?
This makes no sense!
As Narlyd thought to this point, she was full of suspicion and couldn’t resist getting out of bed. However, when she tried to exert a little force, she felt her whole body sore and limp, much like... after she had been hit by a spell from that annoying guy at Deep Blue Castle.
There!
Suddenly, Narlyd had a suspicion.
Last night, she had been hit by a spell from the annoying guy at Deep Blue Castle. Due to the urgent situation, she endured and kept running without paying attention to it, even though she knew the spell could have some bad effects. There was really no time to deal with it, she could only hope the spell effect was weak and would slowly disappear on its own.
And just like that, she managed till morning—after handing over a crate of ore to the person to whom she owed a favor, and as she turned to leave, she felt most relaxed.
Damn, was that when the spell’s effect completely erupted?
So, if she was now in this room and lying on the bed, didn’t that mean she had been rescued again?
The person who rescued her was most likely the person to whom she had just repaid a favor—what was his name? Oh, right, Richard Austin, or reverse it, Dinsao Charlie.
So now she owed him a favor again? And it was a life-saving one at that.
What should she do?
How could she repay this?
Today, she was supposed to return to the Jungle Hut. Otherwise, her teacher would definitely scold her to death, and her cat junior must be getting anxious.
So, she only had one day, no, just half a day to repay the lifesaving favor.
How could she possibly repay it?
But if she didn’t repay it and just walked away, it would weigh heavily on her conscience—she was not an irresponsible person.
What to do? What to do? What to do?
Narlyd tugged at her hair, pondering with some distress.
Just then, she heard footsteps at the door.
"Da da da..."
Narlyd turned her head and saw a figure walk in, someone she recognized, the very person to whom she had finally paid back a favor and owed yet another one.
The person was dressed in a light black outfit, his face calm, looking as if nothing could surprise him, holding a wooden tray with a bowl of some unknown black liquid on it as he walked in.
"Awake?" he asked.
"Uh—" Narlyd responded, unsure of what else to say.
"Good you are awake. Drink what’s in the bowl," he said.
Narlyd, troubled and too weary to ask why, picked up the bowl and, tilting her head back, gulped it down. After wiping her mouth, she looked at him needing confirmation, "Was it you who saved me?"
"Yes," he nodded.
"How can I repay you for this life-saving favor?" Narlyd couldn’t help wanting to ask, but didn’t speak up because he continued without a break, not giving her a chance to interject.
He nodded with confirmation and then spoke, "I don’t know if you remember before you fainted, but let me briefly tell you: You were giving me the Gray Moonstone and preparing to leave when you suddenly collapsed in front of the gate.
I quickly checked your body and confirmed you were mildly unconscious, then found the reason for the unconsciousness, which was poisoning. Yes, poisoning. Looking at your back, it appeared to be the effect of a spell. If you had dealt with it immediately, it wouldn’t have been a big issue. However, for some reason, you didn’t handle it and just continued to endure. This led the toxin to infiltrate deeper into your body.
Fortunately, the toxin was weak and not fatal. I treated you earlier and have already eliminated most of the toxin. You might be feeling weak now, as what’s left of the toxin reacts. These toxins are sticking deep within your body and are quite stubborn.
Therefore, I specially concocted a potion for you, that liquid you just drank. After drinking it you should feel your body heat up, wanting to sweat. This is because the potion contains components that boost metabolism and stimulate sweat glands.
For the next while, you’ll feel increasingly warm and your body will continuously sweat. Don’t be alarmed, this is normal and should subside in about an hour. Of course, if you find it unbearable, the third room on your left outside the door is a simple bathroom with plenty of water where you can cool down."
"I..."
