Chapter 527 - 525: The Honest Girl
Chapter 527: Chapter 525: The Honest Girl
In the twilight, the girl from the "Jungle Hut" of the Wizard Organization in the courtyard where Richard lived, stood stupefied for a long time, slowly turned her head, and looked at Richard before speaking, "Was it you... who did it, was it you... who killed the guy from Deep Blue Castle?"
The girl’s tone wasn’t very certain, since, in her view, Richard was just an ordinary person, and Richard hadn’t shown any sign of taking action just now.
But in the courtyard, apart from her and the guy who had been killed, there were only Richard and Pandora. Pandora was just a little girl, and it seemed more plausible to guess that Richard had done it than to guess it was Pandora.
Richard looked at the girl and shrugged, then denied outright, "No, I didn’t kill him, did you see me do anything?"
"Uh, I guess not."
"There you have it then."
"But..." The girl was clearly having trouble grasping the situation, looking around the courtyard, "If it wasn’t you and it wasn’t me, then who did it?"
"I don’t know either," Richard said, "Maybe the fight between you two attracted some passerby, or maybe your teacher was worried about you and followed you all the way to protect you in secret."
"Could it be? Really the teacher? She... indeed has that capability, after all, she is a very powerful wizard..." The girl was somewhat taken in, of course, also because the twist had happened so quickly that it overwhelmed her normal logical thinking.
Scratching her head in confusion, the girl looked at Richard and said, "Since it wasn’t you, then..."
"What?" Richard asked.
"Uh, never mind." The girl shook her head, "I’ll be leaving now." With those words, she walked toward the door.
Richard watched the girl’s figure vanish outside the door, his eyes flashed with a hint of surprise. Honestly, although he’d tried to bluff his way through without revealing his own strength, he didn’t really think it would be so easily successful. The girl had no suspicion at all; was it because she was too straightforward?
Or, had she already seen through him and was just pretending? If that were the case, then she was quite scheming. From her behavior, the likelihood didn’t seem high.
Thinking this, Richard put his mind at ease and shifted his gaze to the body of the Deep Blue Castle boy in the courtyard, pondering how best to dispose of it.
Since the body was from Deep Blue Castle, exposure would surely cause trouble. Whether it was his earlier actions or his denial of his identity, it was all to avoid trouble and not invite disaster.
So... bury it on the spot? Or burn it to ashes?
While he was thinking, suddenly footsteps sounded at the door, and the girl who had left not long before peeked back in, checked the situation in the courtyard, and breathed a sigh of relief, "Phew—, good, I didn’t find the wrong place, it seems my memory is still decent."
Richard’s eyebrows rose as he looked at her, asking aloud, "Why have you come back?"
"Well... it’s like this." The girl started to explain, "I walked a bit and then remembered, leaving the body here and leaving your courtyard in this state is just too wrong. My teacher has always taught me to take full responsibility for whatever I do, so I came back specially to help you with it."
Richard’s eyebrows shot up; were there really such "kind-hearted" people? He looked at the girl with a hint of suspicion.
The girl, however, paid no mind to these things, walked quickly inside, closed the door behind her, and then approached the body of the Deep Blue Castle boy.
"Ptooey!"
The girl first spat fiercely at the body of the boy, expressing her indignation, then pulled out a fist-sized bottle from her bosom, removed the stopper, and poured out a walnut-sized emerald green seed.
The girl moved her lips, muttered a spell, and tossed the seed onto the ground.
As soon as it touched the surface, the seed grew rapidly, and in no time, it turned into a plant resembling a Cannibal Flower.
Although the Cannibal Flowers on Earth bear the name "cannibal," they don’t actually eat humans. However, the plant before him, whose name Richard didn’t know, had grown to completion and seemed ravenous. It quickly moved towards the dead body of the boy from Deep Blue Castle, wrapping around and engulfing the corpse in mere moments.
With the sound of fluids flowing inside the plant, followed by the noise of limbs being crushed, the process continued for a while. Afterwards, the entire plant visibly shrank at a rapid pace, turning into a pile of black viscous substance similar to charred remains. As for the body of the boy from Deep Blue Castle, it vanished without a trace, and Richard highly doubted that even DNA verification could prove its existence now.
After completing this task, the girl didn’t stop there. She asked Richard for a shovel and, with great effort, dug a large pit in the corner of the yard to bury the black viscous substance.
Once the burial was complete, the girl looked at Richard with a reassuring expression and said, "Don’t worry, the things I’ve buried will completely vanish in less than a month. No one will be able to find them, and you won’t get into any trouble."
Richard nodded, "That’s good to know." He thought that the girl would leave after this, but little did he know it was just the beginning.
Afterward, the girl tirelessly leveled the ground, erasing all traces of the battle and restoring it to its original state.
Throughout the process, the girl occasionally coughed, clearly showing that the injuries she sustained in the battle were not minor, but she persisted until the very end.
After putting in a great deal of effort to level the ground, the girl examined the walls of the house and the stone platform in the yard. They bore many cracks and scorched marks, also a result of the battle.
This she couldn’t fix, as she didn’t have the skills of a mason.
Her expression struggled for a moment before she made a decision. She reached into her bosom, searching for a while, then pulled out three warm Gold Coins and handed them to Richard, "Um... I’m sorry for accidentally damaging your house and other things. I can’t repair them, so please let me compensate you with these few Gold Coins. Please make sure to accept them, and please don’t think it’s too little. My teacher spent all his money to buy me this ’Star Night Meditation Hat.’"
As she spoke, the girl pulled a Meditation Hat from her bosom and waved it, continuing, "So, these are the only Gold Coins I have left. Apart from these, I just have a few silver coins and Copper Coins. I still need to buy food..."
"Anyway, that’s it," the girl took a deep breath and stuffed the three Gold Coins into Richard’s hands. She then turned and walked towards the door, disappearing quickly into the increasingly dense night.
Richard looked down at the Gold Coins in his hand with an odd expression. To be honest, he often gave people money himself because he found it a hassle, opting for a simple and direct solution to problems. But receiving money from someone else, especially a woman, was a first for him.
Regardless, as long as it meant no trouble, that was good enough.
Thinking this, Richard glanced to the side.
In the night, under the moonlight, Pandora was still doing her homework in the corner, frowning in concentration. It seemed to be taking a considerable mental effort.
"How’s it coming along?" Richard asked.
Pandora scratched her head and looked over, replying honestly, "I’ve done about half."
"Half? The first half?"
Pandora shook her head.
"The second half?"
Pandora shook her head again: "The middle half."
"The middle half?" Richard suddenly had an idea and exclaimed, "Bring it here, let me take a look."
Pandora walked over with her homework, "Here, take it."
Richard quickly glanced over the content of the paper and raised his eyebrows.
