Chapter 439: Chapter 438: One-Hit Kill
The Death Mage watched the Divination Woman leave, slowly sighing with relief before speaking ill-temperedly, "Hmph, such a stupid woman, only thinking about becoming prettier. What’s the use? I sent you into the stone cave; you just needed to grab anyone, and you almost let them escape. I think you’re even worse than the dumbest corpse monster. I really want to turn you into one!"
While speaking, the Death Mage suddenly thought of something, and quickly ordered the Grey-skinned Stitched Monster in the room, "You! Go out, guard the door. No one is allowed to come in while I’m experimenting, understand?"
The Grey-skinned Stitched Monster looked bewildered, gazing at the Death Mage.
With an imposing air, the Death Mage repeated, "Go out, guard the door, and don’t let anyone come in!"
The Grey-skinned Stitched Monster still appeared incredibly confused.
Unable to restrain his frustration, the Death Mage slapped his own forehead, put down the knife in his hand, and kicked and shoved the Grey-skinned Stitched Monster all the way to the doorway, then pointed to the ground and shouted, "Stand here, and block it!"
Only then did the Grey-skinned Stitched Monster seem to comprehend.
"Huff—"
The Death Mage walked back into the room, went up to the Stone Table, and was about to pick up the scalpel to continue his research. But the next moment, he was surprised to find that the scalpel had disappeared.
"Hm? What happened? I clearly remember placing it here; why can’t I find it?" muttered the Death Mage to himself.
Just then, the sound of a heavy object hitting the floor rang out behind him.
The Death Mage turned around and saw the scalpel lying quietly on the ground behind him.
"Was it always on the table, and I accidentally knocked it off just now?" puzzled the Death Mage, but without thinking too much, he quickly picked up the scalpel and approached the beautiful woman on the Stone Table.
...
Elsewhere.
The Divination Woman left the Stone Building, stomping angrily towards the forest while muttering to herself, "Hmph, just you wait. Once dawn breaks tomorrow, I’ll leave this damned Undead Island and head back to Hai Ya. Leave you here to be the lonesome Death Mage, slowly researching corpses. Better yet, I hope one of these monsters you’ve created goes berserk and kills you, serves you right for continuously deceiving me, for giving me this side-effect-ridden necklace!
Honestly, not a single word you said was true! Yes, not a single true word! Now, I’m seriously doubting whether you have the ability to succeed in your research at all. If you’re incapable, you might as well have made me prettier. That way, even if I can’t have eternal life or youth, there is at least some compensation.
What’s wrong with wanting to be more beautiful? Why shouldn’t I yearn for that woman’s face, that robust Female Knight’s chest, and that young lad’s eyes..."
The Divination Woman had just reached this point when suddenly a voice interrupted, "Do you really want my eyes?"
"Hm?"
Startled, the Divination Woman abruptly turned her head to the direction of the voice, her body turning rigid as she saw Richard calmly walking out of the forest, squinting at her.
"You!" The Divination Woman’s eyes widened, her mouth agape in disbelief, "You... How are you here? How can you possibly be here?"
"It’s simple, I hitched a ride here on your smooth-sailing ship," Richard answered.
"Smooth-sailing ship?" The Divination Woman was puzzled, not understanding Richard’s words, but that didn’t stop her actions. She swiftly reached towards her neck to activate the mental attack embedded in the necklace, but grabbed at nothing, abruptly remembering that in her rage, she had thrown the necklace onto the Stone Table inside the Stone Building.
In a panic, the Divination Woman hurriedly lowered her head to rummage in her bosom, pulling out a Purple Bracelet. The next moment she lifted her head, she was taken aback to find that Richard had vanished from her sight.
"Eh? Where did he go?" The Divination Woman frantically looked around, voicing her alarm.
"Are you looking for me?" Richard’s voice came from behind the Divination Woman.
The Divination Woman, startled and clenching the Purple Bracelet in her hand, swung it behind her, but just as she moved, there was a "thud." An Ice Cone appeared in Richard’s hand and pierced precisely through the Divination Woman’s back, impaling her beating heart.
"You!"
The Divination Woman cried out as her body convulsed violently and then fell still.
Richard gently pushed, toppling the Divination Woman’s corpse onto the ground, his expression remaining calm.
Previously, he had contemplated killing the Divination Woman—the thought crossed his mind while being pestered by her in a tavern in Hai Ya.
At that time, it was just a fleeting thought, never brought to action. Firstly, he was not a bloodthirsty man; although killing did not repel him, he only regarded it as a means to an end. Secondly, in most cases, killing was not the optimal solution, as acting might have led to even greater complications. Hence, he refrained from making a move then.
Now, however, the situation was different. He had just ascertained the entire island’s situation through an astral projection and gauged the strengths of the Divination Woman and that man called the Death Mage inside the Stone Building.
Based on the exchange, struggles, and fights between the Divination Woman and the Death Mage, it was certain that neither possessed the strength of an Official Wizard; they had merely relied on artifacts to capture the crew of the "Naru Glory Fisherman." His astral Projection holding the little knife had stood behind the Death Mage for several seconds without the latter noticing. This fact spoke volumes. He thought to himself that if the astral projection had any real strength, he would have disposed of the Death Mage right there and then.
Under these circumstances, he didn’t need to be overly wary.
Perhaps continuing to hide and slowly uncovering more information would have been a good strategy, as it would allow him to gain more intelligence without being detected. But acting directly and overpoweringly might yield a higher efficiency.
Even if such a brute-force approach might seem thoughtless, it was not necessary to contemplate deeply every action taken—not every decision called for the utilization of Wisdom; sometimes it was merely a show of Wisdom. Just like when he used chlorine for disinfection while exploring the graveyard outside White Stone City, it was a straightforward solution.
With these thoughts, Richard glanced at the Divination Woman’s corpse and noted the Purple Bracelet still clutched in her pale hand. Faint arcs of electricity danced on its surface, and it seemed she had intended to use this electrical discharge against him.
Shaking his head slightly, he prepared to leave when suddenly the Bracelet, with crackling electrical arcs, shattered, releasing thick purple smoke carrying a strange, fishy stench that spread in all directions.
Soon, roars filled the air from all around, and he could sense a plethora of Sewing Monsters converging on his location.
So the Bracelet also had a distress signal feature?
Thinking this, Richard’s facial expression barely changed as he whispered, "Well, this works out fine; it allows me to take care of them all at once, rather than hunting them down one by one later!"
With that, Richard’s gaze sharpened, and the Free Energy Elements inside him began to stir.
